Good Monday morning manatees.  Hope all of our Mommy Manatees out there had a great Mother's Day.  My DH and DS got me flowers, Dove chocolates, a card and then cooked my favorite...pancakes and bacon.  We had a laid back kind of day and then a shrimp/crab boil for dinner.  Lots of playing outside!

Plan for the week is to get in a couple of short runs and some yoga.  Have to work this coming weekend.  Between that and baseball during the week, my rides are likely going to be non-existant.  Boooo!  The Spring rush will be over soon and I can get back to it!

Well I managed to get out of bed at O' dark thirty (ok maybe is was O' dark forty-five) for a swim/run. Then I treated myself to a dirty chai!!!!!!!!

Had a great Mothers Day. I'm not a brunch and flowers kinda girl so here is what our day looked like exploring ancient native ruins...

Ha! I'm back to getting my dirty chai lattes on the weekend...yummy Ohhhhh! That looks like some great hiking on a beautiful morning! I can't wait til the kids are a little bigger so we can do more hiking/exploring like that.

TriAya - 2013-05-13 12:01 AMFood emergency. Bit of hard-to-reach food stuck in teeth. Plastic toothpick to try floss it out. Toothpick jammed on food, drove into gum and apparently nerve root and BROKE OFF. Attempts at self-surgery resulted in massacred gum, shattered glass and Betadine all over floor. DAMNED thing is now stuck in there even worse. whimper

So there is this invention called ...

Wait for it ....

DENTAL FLOSS.

Despite what you have been lead to believe its not for inflicting pain on annoying people it's actually for removing stuff that's stuck between your teeth!!!!

Really I am so very sorry that you hurt yourself so badly

After you have been to the dentist and got it sorted make sure that you rinse and gargle 3-4 times a day with salt water. From my dental nurse days it really is the most effective, easiest way to keep mouth wounds clean and heal them quickly. Just 1 teaspoon of salt in about 1" of water (slightly warm if possible) in a glass, stir thoroughly, rinse and spit! My suggestion would be definitely after each time you eat and then just before bed too. It tastes like shyte but think of it as training for your next ocean swim.

Ha ha ha, I thought the same thing, Stacey!  Now please, Yanti, get better soon.  Glad the pain meds are helping get you by until you can get to the dentist and hopefully get that plastic pick removed from your nerve/gum (shudder).

It was 93 degrees F. today, so I REALLY wanted to get to my OWS! I did. It was short, but as I did end up switching to the Mini Tri next Sunday, it makes sense--I still did a bit farther distance though--I swam 600 meters or so (I think it was a bit more), but I did the whole distance in 15 minutes! Grant me a moment to say: THAT WAS MY FASTEST SWIM EVER!!!!---So...this is what happens when I rarely train my swimming skills?!?!? After my swim, I had the longest transition ever for my run because some ladies in the parking lot managed to find a baby rattlesnake who was heading for the family play areas...I wrangled the little guy with a couple of sticks and placed him in a nice area FAR away from the families, yet very near ground squirrel burrows...Unfortunately, he looked like he had a bit of an injury on his side. I hope he ends up okay...Anyways, that's two training session at that area in a row in which I have found at least one snake...yes, this is motivation for me to train more there! Laughing After the rattlesnake fun, I did do my exceedingly slow run--1.5 miles in 20 minutes...13mph pace....Frown...

Now that I don't have an unprepared for, scary race looming, I feel much less anxious. I am so ready to get back to it! ---and my quads aren't hurting! YAY!

Kate, that is awesome, saving that little snake and being the hero to all those kids and worried mothers!  Congrats on the new swim record and the brick!

I will grade final exams #1 (or at least start them) while these students take these tests. I'm not going to be a very popular professor today. Lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Innocent

reneehoyos - 2013-05-13 9:10 AM Manees! How are you all accessing folks workouts and race logs? I'm loving the inspires and would like to do some for y'all. Lemme know.Oh. Odd thing in the pool today. I could smell the guy in the next lane's cologne. Underwater. Ever had that happen? Every time he'd pass me, I'd get a whiff underwater. That is the first time I have ever smelled someone in the pool. I felt like a marine mammal!

Renee, there is a bunch of little stuff to get used to, like "inspires", "replys" and how to set your privacy settings. And we haven't mentioned "PM's" or some of the "Manatee specific" stuff like the bike gallery.  I will say this, keep on running, biking, swimming and logging your workouts and the rest of this stuff will all become second nature. Also, there is a Help Page that may give you some pointers.

Yeah, just work on logging as that's the most important. All the other stuff can be picked up over time. Had no idea what others were talking about for awhile regarding the features as these were all new things, not like anything else I'd used before. Bike Gallery??

Ah, the Bike Gallery. It is a Google Album that we put together with pictures of nearly everyone's bike. It seems we have added to a bit lately, with Jen's new bike and Melanie's bike. I am waiting for the picture of TJ's new Felt. If anyone else has a bike pic they want to share, just drop it in here and I'll grab it and add it to the gallery.

Can I give you a better pic of my bike?  The bike store has this one of mine on their Instagram feed:

Dearest Manatees,

Do I want to do a 4 mile trail (mostly packed gravel fire roads) run on June 2nd?  I'm supposed to do a long bike that day, but I could do that on Saturday (a rest day?) and run on Sunday.  My training plan is a little lighter running wise than I am currently doing.

Love,

Jen

It's called Chaco Culture. It's a network of "outlier" communities scattered around NW New Mexico. The closest is 40 miles from our house, as the crow flies.

I love running on my lunch break, sometimes it is the only thing that keeps me in my current job....working from home in my old training/ racing tee shirts has it's perks.

Yep, I am currently a sweaty Manatee and probably won't shower until after I ride my bike this evening.

It's at Pocahontas.  There were a few sections of uneven footing, but not too many.  They also made it flatter this year. We'll see.   Would be good practice for Tavern!
