I live alone, not seeing anyone....ok so I'm divorced...no wait, single?? I'm confused. Huh. I replied to this but it went away. Anyhoo ... you are SINGLE!!! You WERE married. You GOT a divorce. NOW you are single and were single the very day that you got divorced from being married!!! ![]() Single. Not with anyone = single. My earlier comment was that I've observed that there don't seem to be a lot of "never married and single" folks on BT, though there seem to be a whole lot of divorced ones... Maybe those peeps are shy? Grabbing straws here. |

![]() lisac957 - 2009-06-11 4:16 PM Zilla - 2009-06-11 2:39 PM In regards to using single vs. in a relationship, etc. For me .. when I am any type of committed, monogamous dating situation I do not consider myself single. By telling someone that I am single implies that I am "free". I am not "free". I am in a relationship. I think by saying you are single opens up the door for people to assume that you are free to date and do what you want with whoever and I wouldn't want to give that impression to anyone .. and I find that it might be slightly disrespectful to the man I am in a relationship with by telling people that I am single when I am clearly not. That just be the way I roll. But everyone is different and that's cool too! I agree, but think the options given in the title made people choose "single" even if they were in a relationship. As in... not married or divorced. I would never tell someone asking that I was "single" - nor did I in my response to this thread. Nor did the "not married or divorced" people who answered either. So I'm not sure what the discussion is about... Actually you did - you said you were "single and dating a hottie triathlete". That's why I posed the question I did. |

I thought this was implied but I will spell it out. If a single guy asked if I was single I would never say that, even though I am not married since it (like Zilla stated) implies I am availabie. Which is why I caveated "and dating..." after I wrote "single." Sheeesh. |

Which is why I caveated "and dating..." after I wrote "single." Sheeesh. Look, I personally think it's implied, or at least should be. However, I know a lot of people in your situation who still call themselves single. I have friends who call themselves single until they're actually engaged to the guy they're with. Seems as though this notion of non-committment is very common these days, since "traditional" relationships are considered old-fashioned and obsolete by many. So that's why I asked. |

Just the way you worded the above makes it sound like "divorced ones" is a less desirable group than never been married and single. Divorce has a negative ring attached to it, always has, especially if you are a woman, and I will not label myself in that way. I never check the "divorced" box on a document or form. I check "single". Yes, I had to obtain a legal dissolution to get out of my contract of legal union, for very good reasons and now I am single .. unless I am dating someone exclusively. then I am in a relationship. so you are divorced and single. |
