I am a novice with swimming and biking, but I have been having a blast so far with three sport training. In terms of planning, I've booked flight to spokane using miles, found a good deal for car rental on priceline.com. I think I'll just finish up and book my lodging later today and will prob stay in a cheaper CDA hotel. Looking forward to keeping in touch through training...good luck everybody!!! |

It was around 70ish degrees and I did not wear a wetsuit- wish I would have worn mine. It was pretty cold- and then it made me think of the IM CDA swim and how cold that will be even with a full wetsuit. Does anyone know the average lake temp for the race? There website has some good info but in a nutshell avg water temp is 67 degrees, disk wheels are ok, wetsuits allowed, and as a common courtesy all women athletes are asked not to beat any of the men.... this is just a IMCDA rule but is strictly enforced..... lol |

As long as it's usually not in the lower 60's then I should be ok. Guess I'll be doing a lot of OWS in colder water to see what my limits are. And have I mentioned how excited I am for this race? I did IM Fl in '06 and am doing IM Cozumel this Nov. I've always done IM's with ocean swims and flat/windy bike courses. I'm definitely going to be out of my comfort zone with this race- being that the bike is so hilly. But I guess I have plenty of time to ride on some hills |

Veteran 163 California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm back for my 3rd IM CdA. It's an incredible race. Don't beat yourself up over the water temp. Wear a wetsuit, and it's not bad. Besides, it is what it is, and if you can't change it, then let it be. Worry about things you can change. |

Just wondering- do they have that every year??? |

I've never seen anyone actually in it. Awesome. Next year might be the first year you actually see someone in it- me!! I'll bet that you will not get in the hot tub after the swim. The cold water is always a topic of concern every year. With the exception of 2008, the water has warmed up in the last two weeks leading up to the race. Most people that I have talked to who wore a long sleeve wetsuit with the neoprene cap have said that they were getting a little too warm at the end of the swim. I have never felt cold in T1. However, I have gotten cold during the first 20 miles of the bike until I've fully dried off from the swim. You might want to think about bringing arm warmers. |

Not sure if he was one of the people that got pulled out of the water that day - conditions were rough. |

I'd rather get back into the lake, great idea, I think they just need a few more tubs! Like 2000 more! |

Master 1472 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I believe in 08 there were warming tents and hot tubs. Water was COLD. I didn't use either. Put on my sleeveless top and arm warmers in T1 and by mile 15 or so on the bike I quit shivering. |

Master 1978 Chelmsford, Massachusetts | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Honestly, I was sweating by the time I got out of the water in 08. I had a neoprene cap on, but no booties. When I came out of the water, I couldn't wait to get the wetsuit off. The weather was decent that morning though, so I didn't bother with any warming clothing on the bike, and I was fine. The water will be cold, but to tell y'all the truth, the minute you get in the water, you stop worrying about the temperature and start worrying about which person will be the one who knocks your goggles off, or kicks you in the face, or drowns you. CdA was the worst swim start in an IM out of the three I've done...and not just by a little. BY ALOT. Yeah, okay...maybe a pointless post...but I figured...what the h3ll. See you all in 2010. |

Er...you're calming all of my CDA swim nerves. Gulp. Hehe...sorry Shannon. I just really wish they'd switch to a deep water start there. But I guess treading water in 55 degrees wouldn't be great. I plan on taking an "inside the buoy line" swim until I have to turn left! Seemed to be a bit less congested there last year, from reading race reports. I'll try that! |
