Who is announcing?  This doesn't sound like Mike Reilly.

Reilly has been announcing.  He takes breaks.  I don't think he could announce for 7 hours without a break.

Thanks.  I never paid attention before.  It seems like he is always there.

Isn't there usually more run splits besides the half-mary mark?

Not at LP.  Same as last year.

Last year we had a 6 mile and 18? mile split in addition to 13.1 mile splits so a total of 4 splits.

"mind over matter"

That's the announcer's explaination of why people collapse at the finish line.  Hmmm....never thought of it that way.  I have always found it interesting that some people (usllually FOPers) collasped right after crossing the finish line.  Why is that?  Should walking be less taxing than the running they were just doing?

FYI - If you expand the video to full screen you can mostly make out the clock on the ford vehicle on in the finish chute.

I actually think it's more the mid packers who collapse at the finish as they are out there long enough to really put a hurt on and really push themselves to the limit. FOP'ers either blow up or finish pretty ok.

Yeah, that makes sense.  I know you don't see many of the BOPers collasping...I guess they've been run/walking a lot anyway.

You'll see that regularly in people who just ducked in under a "cutoff" time - like the half hour marks 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30... they were doing the math and knew they had to give it all to get under the mark.  If I had to run a minute per mile last 3 miles to make 11:07 vs. 11:10 I probably wouldn't... but if it would give me 10:59:59 vs. 11:03 I'd dig deep.

Makes sense to me...when I did my last HIM...it was quite painful and I just held onto the finish line and that was my total focus, and then it was done...I collapsed as that was where I held onto...it was a very odd experience...very quickly I was fine.

I was a finish line catcher for 9 hours once.  I saw this a ton.  I think Mike nailed it when he said mind over matter.  People are holding on by a thread long after their body has begged them to give up.  As soon as you cross, there's no longer a reason not to implode, and you literally watch every bit of strength to even sit up straight leave some people who were just running 8 minute miles and could have run one more if the finish line was another mile away.

Not online, you didn't.  Trust me, I sat in front of the computer all day last year.

eta... last year's thread ... scroll to middle of page, only a 13.1 split.

You're a beast NL - I was checking every 30 seconds thinking it would be soon and you still beat me.  Of course not as much of a beast as Jenn.  Based on their swim and bike times, gail should be right behind her.
