Expert 957 | Subject: RE: IMLP watching thread What an incredible day! Other than seeing PennState before the race and some youngish bike on that road before Mirror Lake Dr on loop 1 of the bike, I didn't knowingly see any BTers all day, though at least 4 of us were apparently in women's transition volunteeri\ing. What an incredible day that was, between the downpour on the swim til the person that finished with like a second to spare. This was not an easy day on the bike... |

Bob 2194 Binghamton, NY | Subject: RE: IMLP watching thread Thanks for all the spport yesterday. It's great to go back and read through this thread. A huge CONGRATS to Fred on a great race!! He looked fantastic on the run when I saw him. Tim (TwinRacer) had a rough day but still managed to "clobber" me. His stomach shut down on him during the bike and he spent a couple hours in the med tent with IV fluids. He was 12 lbs light at the finish! Apparently the karma I got from Eagleman wasn't enough to carry my through Placid. There was another accident on the Keene descent and the guy was unconscious with his bike on top of him in the middle of the road and people were buzzing right by him. WTF is up with people, is a Kona slot or a PR worth leaving someone in the middle of the road? I hit the brakes at 52 mph and climbed back up to see to him until the ambulance got to him. That probably added 15 minutes to the bike time. My run was filled with bowel issues again for the first loop and after that I just threw in the towel and walked and ran when I felt like it. I had a great time in the race. Met up with a lot of people during the run/walk, encouraged a few to keep moving forward. I told some of them if you lean forward it feels like yo're running downhill. That got a chuckle ot of a few that weren't looking too good. Overall I thought it was a great venue but the crowds were a lot more supportive and loud in Wisconsin and the athletes seemed to be having much more fun in Wisconsin too. There were a lot of "game faces" here and I found that even on Saturday it was like pulling teeth to get some of them to talk. Race report will be written tomorrow night at work. Thanks again everyone!! |

Any word of how this guy is doing? I heard of one guy who broke his collarbone in a crash (Travis Early). Were there multiple people hurt in this crash? |

Extreme Veteran 981 Maryland | Subject: RE: IMLP watching thread Way to go Bob! I heard that there was a major incident involving multiple bikes on Haselton Road too. I wonder if it involved someone coming over the yellow line. I saw that a few times on that road, as some people were crossing the line to get around lane blockers. In general I saw a lot of blocking, and a few people passing on the right like it was no big deal. I also had the issue spoken of here with people mounting their bikes right at the bike mount line, and blocking traffic. I was screaming, "let's go people!" Thanks to all the BTers here watching us! I had a really tough day, and part of the inspiration to keep going, and to run instead of walk when feeling defeated, is knowing that there are folks out there watching.

Extreme Veteran 596 Worcester, MA | Subject: RE: IMLP watching thread em73 and I were at the Finish Line writing down numbers. You may have seen my head in a white hat bopping on the left of the webcam! We did a few shifts throughout the day, but it was great!! The end with Matt Long was awesome and the last guy DID make it, although he had to slow down the last few steps as NOT to run people over in the Chute. .It was crazy!! If you ever want to volunteer at an IM, do timing, it is easy and gets you access to the good places. We requested finish line duty, so that was cool. |

I cried so hard when I crossed the finish they thought I needed medical. When they realized it was tears of joy, the catcher started to cry too. My teammate was also the LAST guy to finish at 16:59:48...AMAZING to watch him finish. |

Subject: RE: IMLP watching thread Thanks for watching all day, everyone! I had soooooooooo much fun ... some mechanical difficulties (obviously) on the second loop of the bike, which along with the wind made the final climbs pretty challenging, and whoever decided you should go super-slow on the first loop of the run to save energy for the second clearly doesn't plan on a 6-hour mary (or maybe I should have just run that far at least once beforehand)...after 4.5 hours I am just tired no matter what speed I have been going! So, didn't hit my goal time, but that much more time out there having fun. Can't wait to do it again. |

I would have let you know my wife and I were in it as well. It looks like KathyG seen us by her post about married couples a few minutes after we finished together. We didn't plan it that way! It was a great race. I wrote my story about it in the other section to see how we ended up together. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=172127&posts=23&start=1 Thanks for taking the time to do this and track everyone. That is really nice !!! Bob |

Seems like it was meant to be that you guys kept bumping into each other and you both supported and helped each other to finish when it was difficult. I was jaded I think by someone on my tri team who waited around in transition for their SO and went with her the whole way on her first IM and he didn't race his race but escorted her. Clearly that was not your guys situation at all. Sorry...read the story and felt like a bit of an ... Congrats on your first tri finish...and doing it in an IM...pretty impressive! Glad you were there to help your wife through the tough times. |
