Hit the beach last night.  The water was AWESOME!  I would guess it was at about 65.  SOOOOO much warmer than this past weekend.  Still cool but with the wetsuit on it was lovely!  And relatively calm too.

Great news!  I hope it lasts.

mr2tony - 2009-08-25 9:49 AM So ... TriOK and I are setting up a tent near Monroe and Lakeshore (just to the south of transition) to serve as a place where she can pick up her wetsuits and kind of a BT hotspot. I'm thinking of getting some sort of flag. The only one I have right now is a Dallas Cowboys flag that I could put on a flagpole. I may try to come up with something better, or something more indicative of BT. But for now, that's all I gots! Perhaps Crowny has a Chicago Fire flag? That may go over a bit better. Anyway you all should stop by at some point (before or after) the race to say hi. We'll probably set up the tent at like 4am to secure prime real estate so if you're waiting for your wave to go and have nothing better to do, come find us.

I love this idea, but Dallas Cowboys flag, seriously!!???!!  Please oh please tell me you can do better than that!!

True.....Let the Freak Flag Fly.

I'll see what I can come up with. I'm proud to fly the Cowboys flag. I especially loved it when they came up here two years ago and walloped Da Bears. My friend and I were the target of many a hot dog wrapper and plastic beer bottle. Oh those crazy bears fans and their throwing of things. Anyway, I digress -- I don't have a Dead flag! I'll come up with something so keep your eyes on this thread ... it could be as late as Saturday before I actually get it.

I actually do have a Chicago Fire flag.  It isn't very big, probably about 3ftx2ft. White on red.  Want it?  I can bring it on Saturday.

Hello my fellow IL BTer's. I'll be in Chicago Saturday night and most likely spending the night so I can catch a glimpse of all you fine folks doing the Tri on Sunday.

Since you guys will have a tent set up, I'll just join ya guys or whomever will be jockstrapping, if that's ok.

Robyn (TriOK) will be there all day. After the race a bunch of us are going to gather at a restaurant/bar in my 'hood.

Oh yeah -- Bar Louie at Polk and Dearborn OK with everybody?

Swam during lunch at Ohio st. It was cold and quite a bit of chop. Felt good to get out before the race on Sunday though. Don't think it could be much worse than the conditions today. I forgot my thermometer so no reading but it felt about 65. Wind was really blowing colder water down the lakeshore. You could feel it getting colder as you headed north.

I had a nice story all written up and in the can about how the triathlon doesn't have a title sponsor but it was killed. I guess I don't really count since I'm not local media. As a journalist, it's hard to understand why the world's biggest triathlon isn't getting more ink in its own city!

The article was awesome and  SPOT ON!! For a city trying to promote the 2016 Olympics you'd think that this kind of event that would be the catalyst for their promotion! Not to mention the fact that the Chicago Tri is the WORLDS  largest Triathlon......wow what a great plug for the City...eh? They cover the Chicago Marathon every year, why not the Chicago Triathlon? As was mentioned in the article (and not in as friendly of words) the Mayor must have his head up his arse, cause he and the Chicago media are missing out on a great promotion for the City and their Olympic bid......but then again, this event doesn't make the city any money, or at least not very  much, so why would they waste their time promoting it?    ANSWER:  The 2016 Olympics..... that's why!!

Mayor Squeeky needs to step up here. He's the big spokesperson for this city and it's attempt to get the olympics here. If he was looking for a large group of supporters this is it. This is the perfect event to show off what this city can do and just how well it can do it. It's a proven event that is very well organized and really shows off the beauty of this city. He should be out there shooting that start gun with his picture all over the papers. This is why we won't get the olympics and shouldn't get the olympics. Let's face it. Mayor squeeky doesn't care about the fans or the athletes. Just how much money he can squeeze out of them. I'm a big fan of the Bears and the Cubs and I understand that they need their coverage. But the Cubs stink and the Bears are playing pre-season. Nobody cares. With a month to go before the descision for the olympics is to be made you would have thought this would have been the showcase event. SAD

Honestly I can see the Daily Herald's reasoning. They have NO money and are very short-staffed. They know crappy Cubs coverage will get them more readers than triathlon coverage, sadly.

Nice article.  I would be happy to see the Chicago Tri get just as much newpaper/media cred that the recent Criterium received.

Yeah crappy Cubs coverage will get them more readers, but that won't show the IOC what this city's commitment can be for the Olympics!!

I kinda like the fact that triathlons are still considered a fringe event.  Yes it would be nice if the world's largest triathlon received some notice but I also like the feeling of it having a small (though it is not) intimate feeling for those crazy enough to do it.

It is strange that Daley doesn't acknowledge the Chicago Tri considering one of the disciplines, biking, is one of his favorite pasttimes.  Perhaps if there were some scandal involving the tri and one of Daley's cronies the Tri would get a better media exposure.

I also emailed the Mayor's office and a few columnists at the Chicago Tribune.  I'll let you know if I hear anything back.
It was a bit disappointing this morning to see the local NBC channel only focusing on 2 volleyball players for this weekend's AVP tourney.  Don't get me wrong I enjoy watching volleyball but at least a mention of the Tri would have been great...it seemed like a perfect segment to include us in.

Maybe we should all email the Mayor just to let him know what a great publicity opportunity he is missing out on.....I'll bet that would spark some media attention......Chicago Triathlon - Olympics - publicity......hmmmm why didn't I think of that??

What's the email address?
