I would like to join

Name:

tgermsheid/ Trevor Germsheid

Story:

Hmm... what to write...

I am a happily married father of four and I am learning how to swim this year. I am not the tallest person in the world, so I want to show that us short guys can at least compete. I am a little scared of taking this on but at the same time I am excited and forward to completing my first Triathlon!

Family:

I am a happily married to my wife Hilary for 7 years who will be joining my in this journey (she is already signed up for her first, WAHOO!). Together we are the proud parents of four children!

Current Training:

I have been doing a mash-up of different exercise programs for the last while, sort of flopping in the breeze trying to figure out what works. I have no idea how to train for this, that's what turned me on to this site. I have been using BT for a while now, and have been pretty religious about adding my workouts to the Training Log since the summer. My swim lessons start in January, so that is also when my swim training will start, but my bike and running has been going on for a while now.

Races:

As I have said this will be my first year. I haven't done anything competitive since running sprints in Junior High.

I am keeping my race options open until January and I am into my swimming. Provided I am more buoyant than a rock, I will be signing up for the Try this Triathlon in May and then maybe try an open water swim one (Coral Springs) in July and who knows from there. I am hoping to pick-up my distances and finish an Olympic by the end of 2011.

Weight Loss:

I have lost about 30 lbs in the past year (just short of my goal for this year) but this is secondary to how I feel. My diet has been up and down as of late and this is most likely the reason I haven't hit that goal (just 5 more pounds!).

So if you don't mind helping a guy out, I would love to join your group!

NAME: CyborgQueen/ DJ B

STORY:
Born and raised in NJ, moved to Las Vegas in 2008. I'm also deaf (and I guess in a way it makes me stand out!). In 2008, I got two cochlear implants (one in each ear), and I can hear a lot better than hearing aids.  I've been a couch potato my whole life. There isn't an athletic bone in my body...until now.  I started cycling in end of July 2009, and logged 860 miles since then.  I've been "considering" triathlons as my stepsister does triathlons. However, a friend of mine did some and was looking for a tri partner. I was encouraged by my biking friends to do it...so here I am!  I know what to "expect" at races, but never experienced racing at all.

FAMILY STATUS: Engaged to Roy, with 4 cats and a dog: Mocha, Hobbes, Keno, Reno and Stardust (the dog). Currently a student enrolled in Game Art and Design. So I have a very flexible schedule that many triathletes will envy. Wink

CURRENT TRAINING: Currently doing some running (as I have never ran in my LIFE!), and will be starting swimming in Jan when I get back from NJ.  Since I'm already experienced with cycling, I thought I could at least tackle these two for now, but WILL do some invervals on trainer.  Real set schedule training starts in January.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: No races - but completed two charity rides - RTC Viva Bike Vegas: 35 miles, and Empower To Ride for Breast Cancer (support group charity ride) - 51.2 miles

2010 RACES:  Kind of up in the air. I have a couple that I'm thinking of. IronGirl tri in May, Lake Las Vegas Triathlon and Las Vegas Triathlon.  I am hoping to be strong enough to do one olympic, but we'll see! Many of the Las Vegas triathlons are later in the summer.   On top of this, I will do three charity rides - ADA in April (64 miles), RTC Viva Bike Vegas (either 64 or 118), and MS 150 (150 in span of 2 days - this ride is NOT official yet, but I'm considering it).

WEIGHTLOSS: After I started cycling and eating a little bit better, I've lost 17 pounds within a couple months, and is losing more.  I would like to lose a bit more, but not a huge priority.

Thanks for the add. This is going to be some great cold and rainy weather encouragement. Quick question for the mod or the other members... Do you have to (should you) utilize the online training logs? I have not yet attempted to battle any uploading, so I am pretty apprehensive at this point. If needed, I am sure I can get it figured out, maybe on my next off day.

I realized that I neglected to include my goals/races for 2010:  Florida HIM; Philly Sprint and Oly; Nation's Tri; Florida IM.

sdalessio:  I live in Chevy Chase, MD.  (Town of Chevy Chase - near the center of Bethedsa.)  I assume that you must be one of those guys who blows by me on a beautiful tri bike (really more of a blur) on MacArthur Blvd along the Potomac.  Maybe a training ride or run when the weather gets nicer would be in order.

Ha Ha - I'm sure FattyFatFat (another SWBKRUN groupss) is laughing about that one.  Maybe my husband could qualify as blowing by someone on a beautiful tri bike.  He has a very pretty bike, blue color (thanks to me).  Myself - well I'm working on getting to blow by status.  We hired a local coach this month and that's one of his tasks!

I hope we meet up sometime in the area.  We are doing Columbia in May.  Haven't figured out the fall.  Neither one of us will get into the Potomac for the Nations tri!

ha!

Yes you should, we all have to start somewhere.  No one is going to laugh if your long run is 1-2 miles, we've all been there.

Also logging everything you do is helpful if you ask a question about training, we can look at what you have been doing and offer advice from there.

The logs on BT are pretty straight forward, if you have any questions on how they work feel free to ask.

YES!  please do.  not only will is it a great tool to track what you are doing but for us to refer to when you have questions about your training.

also make sure to ask questions about how things work on BT such as your logs.  please don't be apprehensive.  attack it!

No! This is my way of getting faster then him!  muahahahaha

Bio:

Name: Jennifer

About Me:  I was a runner in high school but because of a Nazi coach I pretty much quite running until about 2 years ago, I did my first half marathon in March and swore I would never run anything longer, but found myself running a marathon in November- and not hating it!  My boyfriend is more of a cyclist and suggested we try a triathlon so we trained together and jumped in feet first! He likes the toys while I like to training and kinda enjoy scheduling everything myself- I know I am a dweeb.

Family Status:  Living in sin   with a fellow triathlete (Scottie, aka Halfpint) and our two mutts (Bella and Porkchop)

Current Training: Ramping up mileage for another marathon next March (if I can figure out this IT band issue), trying to become a better swimmer over the winter (I just learned to swim properly this past spring) and can always improve on the bike

2009 Races: First year of tris; 3 Sprints, 1 Oly   Running; 1 Half marathon, and 1 full marathon, and some random 5ks for kicks

2010 Races/Goals: 2 marathons (Shamrock and maybe Richmond), 2 HIMs (White lake and Augusta), sprinkling a few Sprints and swim races throughout

Weightloss: I lost 30 pounds this past year so I don't need to lose anymore but I am pretty proud of that accomplishment

badgerintx - 2009-12-14 10:49 AM NAME: badgerintx/ Dave Dineen (Univ of WI grad that spent many years in West Texas) STORY: I currently reside in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI. Stumbled into Tri's about a year ago looking for something to do after hanging up my Hockey Skates after many stitches and injuries. Being an Ex-Division 1 hockey player, I have always been a biker due to its anaerobic qualities and always have liked to run during the off season. Having 2 competitive swimming daughters introduced me to swimming and off I went to my first sprint. I haven't left yet and don't have any plans. WHATS NEXT: Changing of the goal from completing races to competing in my AG. Working on a bigger base and better aerobic VO2. As my profile states: Sprint / Olympic / 5 K's / 10 K's - having 2 teenage girls in high school doesn't allow the time for anymore distance. Plus this old "Hockey Player" body wasn't build for distance...but we are working on changing that! Joined a team this year in the Milwaukee / Madison area called "Turbo Donkey Racing" with the motto we are "Slow, Steady, and Stubborn." This group has been a great wealth of knowledge. FAMILY STATUS: Married (Shelly) 18 years in March, 2 teenage daughters (14, Tori and 16, Allie), and a ragdoll cat of 17 years (Rockie). Libby is my canine "running partner" but she is the neighbors dog that just needs regular workout since her owner died last year. CURRENT TRAINING: Working on VO2 capacity in the off season. Have also been really focused on swim form and times since my last race and working on installing a 2 beat kick with my swim. Been using spin classes for biking since I don't own a trainer and running more. 2010 RACES: Tentative schedule is on also my dashboard for my training log. March 3rd- Iron Clinic (WAC) ?June 13- Capital View Oly (Madison)August 1- Ripon Medical Oly (Green Lake) (Primary Race A)September 11- Lake Geneva Oly (Lake Geneva)September 12- Ironman MOO- VolunteerSeptember 26- Devils Lake Sprint (Baraboo) ?October ???- Northface Endurance Challenge- 1/2 Mary or 10K (Dousman) (Primary Race B) WEIGHT LOSS: This has never been an issue for me (Lucky) and I am pretty regimented about what I eat. I do enjoy a couple of beers every now and then with friends, but I am Wisconsin Grad....I don't think they let you get the diploma without that skill. WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD GROUP MEMBER: I am all about training and the journey. Races are just to measure how the training has gone and to give me some feedback on whether or not what I am working on has worked. I am pretty knowledgeable and willing to share my experiences with the group if it helps others.

Sorry... I have tried everything to put some white space in this paragraph from hell with no success.

Alright Dave! Glad to have another hockey player here. I have played most of my life and I am built more for that than tri, but what the heck. With a name like Dineen you'd better be a hockey player! Laughing
