I always do, and I wonder if it is because I have a verizon email address or that I'm a mac user. Who knows. I have my goals, and I'll post them ASAP. Meanwhile, I had a really crappy half-marathon today. It was unexpectedly hot (I'm not yet used to Summer-like temps) and I am burned to a crisp. My worst ever time, but I finished. Good for you! The heat always kills me! BUT you DID finish!! Good Job! |

Despite all the bugs that that thought it was funny to fly into my eyes and forehead, it felt great to be outside. I love this weather! You know it's been a good ride when you come back covered in bugs! |

Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: Women's May Challenge Thread MDHillSlug - 2010-05-02 7:10 PM I'm waiting on the official results from today's Aquabike race. I forgot to start my watch so I have no idea what my swim or T1 time was. No panic at all on the swim, so that was good. T1 felt slow. I got my butt kicked on a totally flat bike route; wasn't expecting that. The route went through the pine forests of southern NJ, and all the pines picked this weekend to pollenate; the air was so thick with the stuff that we all ended the ride yellow. It was on your lips every time you licked them and it was wreaking havoc with my contact lenses; it's hard to bike your hardest when your eyes are tearing and feel like they are filled with grit. They posted total-time results at the race and I was 5/5 for Aquabike women Sorry the race didn't go your way That bike route would probably have left me sneezing & wheezing! I always wear sunglasses on rides (even if they're just clear) because i hate getting things in my eyes! |

Expert 1163 | Subject: RE: Women's May Challenge Thread rnihill - 2010-05-03 8:54 AM So, I signed up for another race last night... I've been trying space out my entry fees so my dear hubby doesn't have a fit. The race I signed up for is a sprint that is about 15 minutes away from my house. I first did this one 2 years ago and really died on the run. Last year, I was much better prepared for the race... and it POURED. The swim went ok even in the fog/rain. I was kicking butt on the bike (at least for me). I was actually passing people which doesn't happen often since the swim is where I have any advantage. And then about 1/2 way through the bike course, after the monster hill, I got a flat. And I had taken my spare tube out of my bag the weekend before and forgot to put it back in. I DNF'd since after about 2 minutes in the pouring cold rain, I didn't even want to run any more. So, this morning I am getting psyched to kick some Crystal Lake butt this August! Lol. Yeah, sometimes you just have to show those races who's in charge, to keep them in line |

I was cruising right along with my April goals and got oh-so-close before it snowed this week. 80 degrees today so I think it's done now. May is going to be a good training month for me. I've got my goals in the spreadsheet. I'm hoping the lake warms up before the end of the month so I can get my swims done! Debbie, I'm not too far from you. Wasn't it a nice change? Today was a GREAT day! We had a fabulous weekend. I'm hoping it rains a bit overnight because now it is very sticky. Nice to "meet" you. Heading north for any tris this year? I wanted to do the North Country Tri, but my friend in LG is busy that weekend. Without a place to crash and a friend to do it with, I decided to wait until next year to do it again. I loved that race last year! I think I'm going to do the LG Tri though. I really need to sign up before its too late. I grew up in Albany area...will be up there towards the end of the month. Check out some of the Finger Lakes area events. Cayuga Lake has a sprint and oly on early August that I LOVE doing. Keuka and Finger Lakes tri sell out early too. Oh my, I can't even tell you how much I LOVE the Cayuga Lake race! That was the first tri I ever did (sprint) and we go back every year. The only year I missed was the year I was pg with my younger daughter. This year I'll be back looking for redemption on the Intermediate course - the run kicked my butt last year. My in-laws live about 15 minutes from the park and it kicks off our vacation each year. I can't wait! I'm hoping for less rain this year though... Yeah, Cayuga is my favorite race too! ITC does such an awesome job with that race!! |

Pro 4343 Olney, MD | Subject: RE: Women's May Challenge Thread owl_girl - 2010-05-03 11:29 AM Hey Nicole. Sorry your race did not go as planned. The official results are up and I came in 4/5 women They officially declared the swim to be 0.6mi rather than the pre-race 0.5mi so my 20:16 comes out to a 2:02 pace and qualifies as a PB for race OWS! My T1 was a respectable 2:13 (7/15) As far as the ride goes, I guess I now have a much greater respect for what it takes to be a good flatland racer. I think rollers and short climbs (and fast descents!) actually suit me best. |

Extreme Veteran 494 Morris County, NJ | Subject: RE: Women's May Challenge Thread rnihill - 2010-05-02 1:03 PM Got my bike OFF the trainer and out on the road today. Despite all the bugs that that thought it was funny to fly into my eyes and forehead, it felt great to be outside. I love this weather! Hey, it isn't a start of spring road riding until you inhale your first bug of the season! True story: this time last year I was riding at my top speed through the swamp and as I was losing daylight the bugs really started coming at me. One insanely large creature hit me square between the eyes so hard my head jerked back. I swear I was almost knocked off my bike by a bug. |
