Concerns?   I like to think NOT.   But, always some nagging thoughts pop up.

First long ride last Friday with a run afterwards.  Long run yesterday.  Left arch area a little sore.    I have this feeling that I have to very cautious on stretching out my training times and/or distance.      I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not a youngun and need time to recover and adjust.

plus, i'm bumping this thread  back up to the top.

I'm using the BT ironman plan and it looks like I go up to 5 1/2 hour ride. I don't think that's enough. I want to do at least 2 100 milers-does that sound right? Also, I see one or two of you are from Texas--do you have hills to train on? I must be crazy to be doing this IM, when all I have is long, hot, flat as a pancake rides. No, I guess that's why I picked CDA--staying in the saddle kills me. Looking forward to going weeeeeeee! down the hill.

Sweet!  Another BT'er for CDA.  (unless I've missed you posting here before)  We are going to have the biggest BT contingent of any IM race this year I think.

Don't worry too much about the hills on the CDA course.  There are some that are a bit challenging but they're not as bad as you may think, and there are far more long flat stretches on the course than there are hills.  And being able to train in the heat may be a big advantage too.  It can be miserably hot here at that time of year.  Not common but it can happen.  (The first year of IMCDA it was 98 degrees with a 20mph wind).  The normal though is more likely to be in the low 80's.  You'll be fine....and you'll love the downhills!

Alicia-

Welcome to IMCDA.  Looks like a big BT contingent.  We are going to try and all hook up pre-race and check out the course.  I live here and a couple of others live close so we can get people familiarized.  There are a couple of good hills to go "weeeeeeeeee"!

See ya.

I've been a lurker on this thread. I registered and was psyched about my first IM and then we had major upheaval because of hurricane--wasn't sure if it was going to be possible. BUT, last week I actually put down deposit for rental of lake house! We're (hubby and 4 kids) going for vacation in CDA! NOW I'm excited. I'm in for checking out course with ya'll if possible.
Catch ya later!

Hi guys! I'll be there, but purely in a spectatorial fashion. Be sure to wave when you pass by -- I'll have my camera waiting

I'm getting VERY excited for all of you -- I just can't wait to see y'all kick some butt.

Is anybody still looking for accomadation?

I have a twin room to myself at La Quinta Inn & Suites (1 mile from course) and I'd be willing to share it to help someone out/keep my costs down

If interested PM me.

Cheers

danken- I'm staying at that La Quinta as well.  I've already got a roomie though.

I get in on Wed and leave on Tues.  Definitely up for getting together pre or post race.

FYI- My coach has put several people through this course and has some pretty detailed knowledge.  I'm more than happy to share whatever info I get from her.  I'm also planning on pre-riding different portions of the course, specifically the technical stuff, so if anyone is interested in joining me just lemme know...

106 days to go.   And having stupid snowstorms and cold wet weather.    My vote will go to Hammer Products (that's what my LTS/owner is an IM) and haven't had any problems with the products.   Also Like ZipFizz.    Still thinking about the logistics of what I will need and where everything is going to be placed (ie.  extra needs bags)...........also trying to figure out what solid foods I should consider and what will work.

A couple of questions for everyone doing IMCDA.

Gearing on the bike, what are you going with?

Tires? My race wheels are tubulars, however I just had a ride this past weekend with three flats, not my stock wheels are clinchers. What is your emergency bike flat plan?

I really want to hear from those that have done an IM with tubulars. Do you carry a patch kit and an extra tube. I could see myself pulling a "stadler" during the race if I can't handle multiple flats.

Thoughts?

Tubulars or clinchers, doesn't matter, plan on fixing your own flats.  I've only riden with clinchers but I've seen lots of people with tubulars stuffed in a water bottle cage.

My plan is to start the race with two new tires and tubes on my wheels.  In my under-seat bag I'll have two additional tubes, a patch kit, CO2, and $20.  An additional CO2 and patched tube will be in my SN bag.  If I flat I'll toss the flat tube and put on a new one.  If I flat again I'll toss the flat tube and put on a new one.  Any flats after 2 will be repaired.  If I run out of patches or CO2 then I'll take the $20 to the nearest bar because at that point my race is over.

I'm getting so excited!!!
I have a big race next weekend, this will give me an idea of where I'm at in my training. Is anyone else doing a half ironman before CDA?

Yup, Ralph's this weekend!

I agree somewhat, not tired, but getting little aches and pains and strains......I would think I would be feeling strong and fit.

Yep.  I can relate.  I've been trying to train through this dang cold but finally had to take two sick/rest days over the weekend due to fatigue.  They helped a lot.  From here on out I think strategically planned rest days will be as important as any training day we have.

Welcome to the IM roller coaster.  Ups and downs are normal.  Keep training and stick to your plan and everything will work out.  However, if you think it's bad now just wait until about June 14.  A good IM taper will turn even the most well prepared athlete into a hypochondriac.  You'll have aches, pains, and twitches in places you didn't even know you had.  And it only get worse, 10 minutes before the gun goes off you will know that you're going to die in the water.  5 minutes to go and you'll think your going to see breakfast again.  4 to 0 minutes is still blacked out of my memory.  The great thing is once you hit the water and start moving all the stress disappears.  In some ways starting is a better feeling than crossing the line at the end of the day.  Hang in there.

I had a cold last week and knew from experience that the best thing to do was to take the days OFF. Three days off and the cold is gone, AND I swam, bike, and rode just like it never happened. Ya'll listen to your bodies and stay injury free!
On another note, rollercoaster is right on. Some days I'm 100% sure that I can do this, an hour later I'm doubting myself. It doesn't help that my family thinks I'm crazy to do this. They look at me and shake their heads. Thank god for my kids- they think it's the coolest.
