harmonjh - 2013-01-06 1:05 PM Who all worked out over the weekend? I'm learning to keep pushing in the swim. Resulted in a couple of 700 yd swim sessions which is good for me.

Good job!

I spent 2:20 on the trainer yesterday, I have a shorter bike session today and some strength....

joyct32 - 2013-01-05 7:04 PM Down 2lbs this week! Can I get a  "woot woot"?! What kind of scale do people have and like? I am using a huge old  heavy metal one from the 70's no kidding! To '"recalibrate" you lift it up and put it down again, some kind of ballaster moves inside, I can feel it and then the needle moves..haha Maybe I should upgrade. What do you Downers use?

SUPER WOOT  to you Joyce!!!!!!

Day 6 Unsweetened....starting to see sweets as I do beef and cheese, these are 2 foods I don't eat. Basically if a dish has beef or cheese in it, it's easy to walk away as those are foods I have not eaten many years.  Slowly my brain is switching over to this way of thinking again.  Although I have noticed I want salt, which I have never had a salt palate.

Woot woot....

I used a digital bathroom scale bought a few years ago.  I don't think the scale is as improtant as the fact that you use the same one.

Valid point about using the same scale, I was wondering about the scales that measue BMI, stor your data..etc. I will say sometimes the scale DOES lie and use a pair of old jeans as my measuring tool as my things on my body have "reconfigured" with all the swimming, biking and running (opposite can be true as well if I don't swim, bike ,run!

Catching up on posts. Kate - sorry I'm a little paranoid about privacy on the internet, but I will use my name.
Don - I love that you posted pics. Never did it as I didn't want myself in undies to fall into the wrong hands, but I could just post a regular picture - my clothes don't hide as much as I sometimes think they do.

I had an interesting experience of a weekend juice thingy. can't really call it a juice fast as it allowed for some nuts, beans and veggies. I usually go on an eating binge whenever I seriously consider a diet so it was good to complete this. Feel OK, but liked the sense of eating for nourishment and having a sense of mastery - made my juices in advance and stuck to the schedule.

Weekyly mini goal - get to the gym 4 times this week; avoid processed foods

Long term - loss 25 lbs by April 1 - 165 to 140 (to start serious training for long/long term goal - oly distance in August)

Love lifting so weights will be easy, tough to get back into cardio but that's the whole point isn't it.

I did a short run Saturday but took yesterday off.  I've had a cold for a week that just isn't letting go, still cough half the night and so much gunk in my eyes that I can't wear my contacts.   I haven't been sick like this in years, it's annoying.  Feel a bit better today so maybe it's near the end.

Congrats on the juicing.  Don't think of it as a "diet" but a change in eating habits.

A bit of fail for me today.. I was doing really good at giving up sweets before the holidays. And now I keep nibbling.

Was such a beautiful day.  I did 6 miles yesterday.  Not what I had been doing but took off about 3.5 weeks due to various illness/nagging injuries.  Have been putting my new running shoes through the paces as well.  Don't want to get too far from the house and have them going to hurting my feet or rubbing somewhere.

For christmas I took the plunge on a pair of Hoka One One running shoes.  I'm a big(ish) guy with a bum knee, and bad back thanks to one to many collisions on the football fields.  Longer distances (anything over about 5 miles) would leave knees, hips, and backs sore. I am very please with the results of my non scientific testing so far.  These shoes, other than being not so attractive, have performed as advertised and taken alot of the wear and tear out of running for me.

Also have done a lot better diet wise what with all the family now out of my house and things turning back to normal.

Whew, that was a bit of a rough weekend! My cheat dinner Friday night probably was the least of my worries since that was at a fancy restaurant, so the servings were pretty small. Saturday night we got invited over to our friends' house, then Sunday for brunch at another friend's place, then it was ribs and coleslaw last night. I tried to at least not go back for seconds like I normally would so hopefully the portion control evened things out.

I did have leftovers from last night for lunch today, but am accounting for that with a relatively small breakfast and dinner and a trainer session tonight. I just signed up for my first tri of the season (NE Season Opener on May 12th!) so I'm hoping that gives me the final push I need to get consistently back into things. I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks base building, then do a 16 week Olympic training plan. It's only a sprint, but I'd like to be in shape to at least try to be competitive, rather than just get through it.

Sounds great... I am in too. I signed up for Arizona Ironman in November. Weighed 400 exactly on Jan 1, this year. My intermediate goal is to lose 5 pounds per week... Up to the Tempe International Tri, on May 19. That will put me under 300 for the first time in over 20 years. Long term goal is to be under 250 by the Ironman in November.

Nothing like a cold to derail one's training for a half mary.

It doesn't make sense that I'm getting sick more often since adopting a healthier lifestyle.

5 lb a week is a lot, even when starting at 400 lb.  Not healthy to lose too much at a time.

I think three of you have mentioned resisting unhealthy food in the house or when with others. That's a big problem for me too. It will be hard to bring my own food places and resist what's around me. Over a friends house who offered pulled pork and chips. Yeah I ate it and once I started I went back for seconds.

Had a short time while waiting for my daughter somewhere so hit the gym. Didn't do much to speak of, but did some easy cardio. Day one of getting in shape to start my training.

Sometimes training (even moderate, per plan training) is enough to make you weak to colds. Yeah, it sucks & seems completely backwards.

Feel better soon! A few days healing won't derail you.
