Josh Way to rally, Josh! Was worried there for a minute after your deer vs car incident! (Deer suck) My bike had some issues yesterday, so I only went for a brief ride today. Will be back on top of things tomorrow. Plan to ride for a good hour and a half at minimum tomorrow night. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread HELLOOOOOO super Barloworlders!!! Speaking of which ... where is Josh 1.0 and his race report? Josh, come in, Josh ... Many many kudos on the ongoing efforts and riding. DON'T FORGET TO PUT THEM IN YOUR BT LOG (not just reply to this thread, although I will be looking at both). In the Challenge scheme, a ride doesn't count, it isn't official, unless it is in YOUR BT LOG. I'll post tallies every couple of days (so first at the end of today). There is some thrilling viewing on TV ... nearly had my heart fall out when Barloworlder Robbie Hunter (as Cat pointed out) made his thrilling last-minute challenge for the front of Stage 1. WOW!!! There was also some good footage (buttage?) of Kanstantin Suitsou's yummy tush ... well, 'cause he was at the back of not even the peloton, but the peloton trailer. TdF often starts in a foreign country (has done so, I dunno, fourteen or seventeen times??), and there's usually a crossover during the Tour itself into Germany or Belgium. It's a logistics and PR thing. Not sure what the exact rationale this year was for prologue and Stage 1 in England.

Master 1240 Knightdale/Raleigh | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread kaqphin - 2007-07-08 4:30 AM Hi Team - there has been a query with regard to cycle commutes, should they be counted as one stage or two? Ive already stated that two a day workouts are fine i.e a spin class in the morning and a road ride at night would be two stages BUT a commute could be argued to be different as technically you HAVE to ride both ways... Personally I think it comes down to how you counted it when you committed your stages... as long as you state how you are counting your commute in the beginning and stick to it I have no major objections but if anyone has a strong opinion regarding this please let me know. Thanks Cat PS: HUGE congratulations to everyone who has already got a ride in for the challenge
I support calling it two. When I commute to fit in a workout, I only bike one way. I can't risk being without a car if my wife goes into labor. I plan ahead and have my wife pick me up when she has a doctors appt and leave my car at work and commute on the bike the next morning. Bike commuting is a great way to fit in workouts! Especially for all you 20 ride people. |

I would commute to work except that I'd have to be crazy to do so. I live a straight shot from work down a very busy, congested road in Northern Virginia (and there are no real "back ways" from where I live). There's too much traffic and with the way people drive around here, it's just not safe. I've never seen anyone on a bike on that road. |

Master 3546 Millersville, MD | Subject: RE: Barloworld Team Thread Phew, me back to "work" so now I can check in. TriAya - you are a great cheer leader... thanks for the kudos. Welcome Dolores!!!! Glad to have you on our team! Josh 2.0 - yikes on the deer incident. When I saw it mentioned above in this thread, I thought you had actually hit a deer while riding your race. I was thinking I better shut upand stop whining about my flat tire (see race report). Nonetheless, awsome job getting back up and on the mountain bike... your team thanks you. I say instead of riding the switchbacks in the mountain stages, you just hammer straight up on your new fat studded tires. Keep up the good work everyone... I'm recovering from my first tri (I hear it's normal to be a bit sore after your first time), but I've got my hardest ride to date this friday on the Savageman course. I'll probably take a shorter ride wednesday too. BTW, very impressive 45 minutes of riding...the last 3 days pucker...smoooch Got it tuned this weekend and they screwed it up, which was the reason for my not riding on Saturday. Going out on the bike tonight for at least an hour and a half - there are these things called work, traffic and daylight that won't allow me to ride 4 hours in the evening. I work til 6 and I don't live or work on a safe road to bike, so I need to drive to the trail - and in Northern Virginia/DC traffic at rush hour, that could take awhile. |

I do actually understand about life issues getting in the way Not an excuse, merely an unfortunate and unexpected occurance with LBS and the detriment of living in a heavily congested urban area. I don't have the financial luxury to take a job that lets me off at 4pm - I'm 26 and single. So I get in my rides when I can - I would ride to work (I've done it before) if it were safe. I did 80 miles in a weekend a few weeks ago after only having a road bike for a MONTH - with clipless pedals for the FIRST TIME and only tipped over once in the entire 80 miles. I didn't bonk, I wasn't last and I could walk the next day without much issue. I'd say that's pretty f-ing good for a poor little newbie... :-P Edited by wurkit_gurl 2007-07-09 3:38 PM |
