New user 4 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Just wanted to thank you all for keeping me motivated, I check this site often but have not posted anything in a while. IMFL will be my 2nd full. Getting really excited about the race. The training had been going really good for me and then all of a sudden I hit a wall this weekend. Energy gone and every part of my body hurts. I was hoping to taper next week, but my body is telling me to taper now. I am confused. Maybe I will do a mini taper for a few days and see if I can get back on my plan. I am sure many of you are dealing with the same thing. BTW, for you first timers that say you are going to be one and done, I thought that too. But here I am getting ready for the second. See you all in Florida |

Yes...but if years past are any evidence you all are gonna have to wait a while I doubt they will be posted before 10/27 or 28. Makes it real.....esp since when they broadcast stuff they profile people are they introduce themselves as racer ### |

Has anyone been watching the water temp other than me. Below is what today was SURF ZONE FORECAST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TALLAHASSEE FL 351 AM EDT WED OCT 14 2009 TODAY... BEACH WINDS... SOUTHWEST AROUND 10 MPH. BEACH TEMPERATURE...HIGHS 82 TO 85. UVI INDEX... 8 OR VERY HIGH EXPOSURE. WATER TEMPERATURE...85 DEGREES AT PANAMA CITY. SURF... 1 TO 2 FEET. RIP CURRENT RISK... LOW. 85 degree.... There better be some cold weather coming to chill the water down. Would they make this a non-wetsuit race?.....isn't the magic temp 78 degrees....thoughts??? Mr Steve |

Veteran 273 Virginia Beach | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread They would absolutely make it a non-wetsuit race if the temp was above 78. Yes 78 is the magic number. Although you can still wear a wetsuit from 78.1-83.9 but you would not be eligible for an award should you go fast enough to place. This is the rule for Age Groupers. |

I not trying to win in my age group...just finish the race.....I think I would overheat in my wetsuit if I wore it in temps above 78.....I was there at last year's race and remember how cold it was the morning of the race....it warmed up to the 70's with clear blue skies...... Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Y'all have had me laughing today with the bib number antics!! I enjoy it! I am looking forward to getting mine, but I really am doing my best to hold back the anxiousness. I WILL have butterflies race day, and probably race week, but right now I'm truly truly truly focusing on getting these last couple of tough weeks done so I can get to the taper and sleep o/a 26 Oct. (Sleep is my favorite word right now). I have been working with a sports psychology guy for the "mental training" aspect part of this. A huge aspect of it all is to see yourself being successful and controlling what you can control. So, if you're thinking about the race, don't see yourself doing something wrong, or suffering, imagine yourself, in every element knocking it out of the park. Just like with dreams, our brains do not really recognize the difference between reality and fiction (ever wake up in a cold sweat and wonder why? your brain is reacting to dreams as if they were REAL), so if you condition yourself to see success, studies have shown that people that do it experience success more often. Imagine yourself doing it WRONG and you'll do the wrong thing on game day. I actually wrote what sports guys call and "imagery script." In it I walk myself from the the start of the day on the beach and through each event. I included all 5 senses and I take myself successfully through the day. I'm detailed in transitions, I talk about taking my nutrition on the right time, etc. These are the things I will focus on during the day, what success looks like. But, I'm training my mind NOW. I have cue words that help me focus on the RIGHT thing when I'm hurting or struggling out there, and I've used it in training and it helps. I focus on things like "smooth" "going fast" "making it epic" "imagining the finish line" and more. I have actually found I can help lessen pain by imagining cold ice melting into my quad or whatever is hurting. I thought all this stuff was BS till I tried it! Even if weather goes to crap or something else happens, I cannot prevent the past. I cannot go do a workout I might've missed in training. I cannot make the wind die down, rain stop, or calm waves. BUT, I can control my mind. It will be HARD that day to control my mind...but if I train it now (and it's not easy, my last long ride SUCKED in the mental dept) then come November 7, I will effect what I can effect, I will envision success, I WILL BE AN IRONMAN. FOCUS ON SUCCESS! Don't worry, don't panic, go with what you have, finish your training well, taper right and don't try to "make" up past workouts in your taper, eat right, and make your lists for what you need. If you get into training/taper crazy, divert your mind to the success you will have that day. There are a lot of things we can't control, but we can control our minds. That's my pep talk for the day. I take cash, check, or Paypal. Kthanks. |

Do you have to register for the welcome dinner or is it included, and if so can you buy extra tickets? My mom and dad are driving over from Orlando and staying with me at the Shores of Panama, to be my cheering section, so I would like to take them. My wife and kids cant come down because of school.

Great ideas Brittany ~ mental training is so important but something many athletes overlook. I've crossed the finish line so many times at the end of training runs that sometimes I think Mike Rielly is really talking to me Focus on your stregnths, your dedication, your right now, right here and what can I do to make the most of it. |
