I've pretty much been missing in action this round but have tried to keep up on the posts. Happy belated birthday to the twins. Now that the head coach for the triathlon club is back I hope to get more time here to catch up and participate. Since January I had acted as head coach for the tri club, starting coaching several people wanting to do HIM's this year, am running a beginner triathlete clinic and have been building my PT business. All going well. It certainly looks like you people are getting along very well with out me and my outstanding wit I have been training but haven't been logging my times properly. Hope everyone is doing well and training hard for the up coming season. Although I know some of you have started racing already. Have a great week everyone. |

And Linda you look marvelous!!! **********QUESTION******* Do people have different summer and winter nutritions? This winter I'd switched to HEED for the run but this Saturday's 15 mile run turned into an 8 mile run and a 7 mile walk due to nutrition. The thought of HEED made me want to hurl and all I wanted was orange slices. I'm thinking I need to go back to gels and water for my runs during the summer. Has this happened to anyone else?

Absolutely but I am the opposite. I am not a big liquid drinker unless it's hot out. So I do gels in the winter w/ a little water and Infinit in the summer. Gels make me want to vomit in the heat. |

Took the family to Orlando - did both Universal theme parks, Seaworld, Discovery Cove (highly recommended), Cocoa beach and one day of lounging by the pool at the hotel. My daughter and I also convinced Mom into indoor skydiving (harder than one might think), very cool experience for the whole family. Enjoy some pics:

Nope. It sounds like a taste aversion issue to me based on your description. I tried a couple different liquid solutions before settling on Carb Pro for the triathlon run . It's pure Malodextrin with very limited taste. I supplement with Salt Stick Caps for electrolytes. Works like a charm. I still go back to the fundamental question about pre-hydration/nutrition for you. Unless it's really, really hot, I'm perplexed by the inability to run 8m without bonking...... with or without wetsuit? I honestly cannot swim in less than 74F without a wetsuit. I have tried and my whole body starts to shiver underwater. I know, what a wuss!!! With a wetsuit, the coldest I have been able to swim is 55F, and I wasn't able to think straight after 45 minutes in the bay. Scary to want to say something and have it come out like another language that sounded more like animal than human! |

I think I've done about 50-ish degrees w/wetsuit, and then spent hours (literally, hours) warming my core again -- hot shower, hot coffee, hot fire, seat warmers in the car, tons of fleece, etc. Was just looking through my logs and see that this week last year I did my first OWS with Ryan and Steve at a smaller lake -- and then Steve's leg turned into alien baby (no lie) with a major calf spasm. Brrrrrr. I have not given one thought to OWS yet this year. It's still so f'ing cold... often 30's at night, 50's for highs on the good days... That ain't warming up the lakes very quickly!! |

I think my first OWS in my wetsuit was ~56 deg with my sleeveless the week before my first tri. It was only a short swim -less than 20 min. I wore a neoprene cap in addition to a regular swim cap and that made all the difference. Getting in was cold but once I started swimming I was fine. Don't know what would have happened if I had to be in there for 45 minutes though! A week later for the race it had warmed up to 62 deg and that was just fine for the sprint distance - wore the neoprene cap there too. G

Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closedGot a flyer in the mail for MUD by Infinit... anyone sampled it at any race? Of course anything that says mud and includes the words coffee and caffeine in the description gets my attention!! And they bill it as a perfect pre- or post-race/workout beverage. I'm curious. However, I don't like my coffee sweet (unless it's coffee ice cream, yum!), so maybe this would be a bust. It's a bit too pricey for me to try it. Maybe I'll see it at a race sometime. Oh and happy belated birthday Suzy and Kim, I would like to welcome you ladies to the 25-29 age group One thing you can try to get comfortable with breathing on the opposite side is to practice one arm drills. You find yourself breathing on the right side when your using your right arm and left side when using your left arm. Doug |

So I am chomping at the bit to get in the water and so far the Water temp at John Martin Reservoir is around 50. My next HIM is in Sept so I have time I just want more time and miles in the water. |

Problem: I'm falling asleep and it's not even 8pm. Anybody else have this problem? Nighty night everyone! Last night my son took a turn reading aloud the book I am reading aloud to the kids... I totally fell asleep while he was reading (around 7pm) and nabbed a cat nap. I felt like my father-in-law who used to nod off when people were talking to him in the evenings. Funny, I am exhausted all evenings except Thursday evening I can muster a little stay-up-later energy knowing I don't need to get up early on Friday. It's purely mental! Ha! Of course "late" means I'm awake until 10:45 instead of 10:15... |
