ryceelliott - 2010-07-24 7:39 AM Massive bummer!!

It is official, the left knee is not happy and is demanding some time off. This weekends training is shot, I'm going to try some light running on Monday, but the long ride tomorrow is out.

That will leave just one long ride before the race to make sure that nutrition is nailed down and ready.

Definitely get that knee better.  I can certainly relate.  I had some kind of calf injury about a week and a half ago.  All I could do early in the week was swim.  During the middle, I threw in some light biking and am now back to running.  Ice and Advil are my new best friends.

Brick today.

75 mile ride -- 4 hours, 37 minutes
6 mile run -- 1 hour, 8 minutes

Big confidence booster today. Heat index of 108 with the sun blistering, and still managed to get my full workout in.

Feeling great.

Oh, for it to be in the 80's on race day, how I pray!  All this heat training would be a bonus.  Good job out there folks on a hot day!

Nice job guys.  I wimped out.  I only got in 83.  It was just too hot and I didn't feel it was safe.  It was 87 when I started and 103 when I finished (110 heat index).  I couldn't consume enough water!!  I'll get my run it later today when it cools down into the upper 90's.  I am happy that my legs felt pretty good though.

Yesterday was great, did 100 on bike in 101 degrees. Today 18 in upper 90s, Today for first 9 was easy the back nine was horrid. The heat from yesterday and today really got to me.

Agreed, please come to me oh sweet taper! Next IM (if I choose to do so) will probably not be peaking in july!

That said, I feel ready and pray that fall weather comes to Louisville end of august

Hello All,
Can anyone give advise or thoughts on speed suit for the swim verses just wearing tri shorts and tri top.   i saw photos from 2009 and it looks like many were coming out of the water with just tri shorts on and no speed suit.

How fast are you?

Speedsuits are faster, but they aren't necessary.  You might save 2-5 minutes with a speedsuit, but you could hurry through the transitions and save that much.

hopefully there are some fish on here who will chime in, but I would bet tri shorts and a shave would get a guy pretty close to the speedsuit.  I would be careful wearing a shirt that has pockets or is baggie.

Broke down and got the Xterra speed suit.  Gonna do a Olympic this weekend as a "dress rehearsal" for THE RACE, just to get my head on straight.  I'll get a feel for the suit and capture "the mood".  Should be interesting.  Putting up some huge numbers this month that may be a personal record.  It's getting kinda crazy.

Thanks for the advise.   Swimming is probably my worst event of the 3.   I probably will just do it in tri shorts if the savings is only a few minutes.   my tri shirt is a very silky tight black tank that I believe is meant to make the swimmer faster.   probably beter than shaving my entire chest, for me a big job.    legs will probably have to get shaved, never did it before but it seems all the serious athletes do it.

5 weeks out. I have a question on what i should do this weekend. there is a century ride on sunday in my area.

I am planed to do a 5:45 ride that should be about a 108 miler for me on saturday and on sunday Im supposed to do a 4 HR 1 HR brick (74 miles and 7 miles).

should i do the brick on saturday and do the century plus some on sunday or do the long ride saturday and then do the 70 mile option at the century ride and a 7 mile brick?

Im also supposed to do a 3800 swim sunday.

Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you, but I wanted to ask you what training plan you were using?  Typically the training plans I've seen / use have a long ride and ~4-8 mile brick run Saturday, and long run on Sunday with either some swimming or biking.  When is your long run?  I've never thought of following my long Sat ride with a medium/long brick on Sunday.  I don't know what the rest of your week looks like but it sounds like a plan with a heavy focus on the bike.
