Karen congrats on the weight loss... That is great!  For me to shed my winter weight I just shave the chest... About 8lbs of hair right there!  Just playing-- I know, bad mental pictures!

Another delicious treat--- Skinny Cows (ice cream sandwiches).... They have a cookies n' cream, and a chocolate peanut butter!! NUMMY!

I did my first 10k!  At first I wasn't sure I was going to run the full distance but I felt great after mile 4 so I went for it.  I was pretty surprised that I was able to maintain my usual pace somewhat (it was a pretty flat course).  I swam afterwards and got some cramps towards the end but overall a great workout day for me (I forgot to stretch again).

Your first 10K, WAY TO GO!!!  Plus you had enough juice to swim afterwards, that's fantastic!  I love those running moments when you set out to a certain distance but you feel so good you turn into Forest Gump!  That's great!!!

Way to go the distance!  Am I the only one that has never run any type of race in the group?

Great job Stanley!

Barry, I think Stanley just did the 10K as a training run today.  You did a 5K today, yourself!  WTG!!!  Your first race will be soon enough!

Not sure about your question, though.

OK. Serious question.

I am planning for my first tri - a sprint - on Aug 8.  My wife is wanting us to do another half-marathon on Sept 26.

What kind of turn around do you all think is acceptable?  This will be my first tri and my 2nd half marathon (with my first last Saturday).  That's 7 weeks between them.  Off the top of my head that would be an 8 mile long run week in the half training program.  I would obviously skip that for the race.

What I was thinking is I would hybridize the half running program into the sprint training and basically over run for the sprint.  Which I actually planned on anyhow because the sprint training calls for such low mileage (I can't stand getting ready and sweaty for a 1 or 2 mile run).

So let's here it.

HELP!

My log is WHACKED.    I was trying to copy the new table with everyone's  name to my log to replace the old one.  I saw that Karen had the latest addition, so I hit view source and copied and pasted.  I don't even know if that was even the right thing to do, but now it is so out of whack I have no idea how to get it back.

Anyone got any ideas.   thanks

I would just insert the running plan for the 1/2 into the sprint plan.  Over training the run for a sprint is just going to make the distance seem that much easier.

I took my wife to the Houston Symphony last night for an early Mother's Day present.  Yo-Yo Ma was on the cello.  Several times throughout the performance I just closed my eyes and visualized racing.  Very cool experience.

I agree with Tony.  I'm also doing a sprint in August, on the 16th (it will be my second) and then a half marathon on Sept 13 - so about 4 weeks between the 2 for me.  I just took the tri training plan that I wanted to use and meshed it with a half marathon training plan from Runner's World.  Basically just extending the long weekend runs and exchanging the mid-week run with a little longer tempo run.

Fantastic!!  You did great!  And, have fun at the Zoo this weekend.  My husband and I went to that zoo when we were in NY last January (it was unseasonably warm - but we were about the only people there!) and it was fun!  Enjoy!

Did I cause that?????   I have no idea how to help you!

Steve - thanks for the tip on the Skinny Cows, I'll give them a try when I go to the store this weekend.  Which actually leads to another question.  I know everyone says that Peanut Butter is a good and easy thing to eat.  But, I am kinda embarrassed to admit that I don't like it!!!  Anybody have any suggestions for something different to spread on my bagel??  Are the Soy Nut butters or other substitutes as good for you?  Do they taste like peanut butter?  (Hopefully not!!)  Any suggestions?

Good news, bad news morning......
1st the good:
Tracy, I bought the Finis hand paddles like you had mentioned. What a difference they make!! I used them for a few lengths and then swam some lengths after, I really noticed a difference in my catch and pull.

and now THE BAD: I tweaked something in back last week, but popped a few ROBAX Platinum on the 1st day and all was good. Last night, I felt it again at baseball. One of the guys on my team told me he's had back surgery ,etc, etc, etc. What he thinks it is, is my sciatic nerve. He was showing me some stretches after and it seemed to loosen it up.. Anybody have issues with this? What i've noticed is that I can swim, ride, run and all that stuff, but man trying to bend over and tie my shoes hurts. Frustrating. I don't think it'll cause any issues this weekend, but it's weird.

Janet and Tony, that's what I was thinking.  a 5k is of no concern so I will simply over-run, but will include more speedwork this time (as opposed to basically zero last time).

John, were you visualizing racing in order to get over the pain of the music.  I couldn't handle it.  I'd have to sneak in my mp3.
And is Yo Yo Ma really that much better than say...my friend Nicci from high school.  I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference.

Nice gift though. My wife would love something like that so if she reads this I'm going to have to hunt you down...

Karen:  I'm a fan of almond and cashew butters - still eat more PB than either of those, but they are another option and do taste different.

Tracy: Sounds like quite the day you have planned.  Be careful not to over do it, I'd hate to hear you pulled something reaching for the Oreos - keep 'em close.

So I'm thinking - gosh I can't believe I'm about to type this, about adding the Portland Marathon to my schedule for this year.  I've always said a marathon does not interest me, so what the heck changed???????   I'm a little conflicted about not being able to do the Bellingham Bay half-marathon again to see how much I can improve over last year.  I know where I went wrong in my training and think I could have run that one about 25 sec/mile faster - which is big and I'd like to prove that I can do it.  And what's weird is the marathon distance at the Bellingham Bay does not appeal to me at all.

Let's put it to a vote - Bellingham Bay half w/ goal of improving time or Portland Marathon.  They are a week apart, so doing both is not an option (I'm not Steve
