Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD I'MMMMMM BACK. A few minor hick-ups but nailed it in 1.50.56, ten minutes inside my target, and i smiled. Weather was not as bad as expected but light showers intermitent through most of the bike section meant i stayed wet pretty much from the start. Stayed warm enough throughout and enjoyed it all. Found out that the slim padding on my new tri shorts is a bit too slim for comfort after about 8 miles. Calf issues struck after 3.5km on the run but i was too close to the finish to let it stop me and managed to run it off, sort of. Limping like a limping thing now, but still smiling. Race report already up in my blog (i think/hope). or you can try this http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=436339 |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Good morning all! Congratulations to our racers for great races yesterday. I am a little achy this morning from my long-ish run yesterday (and also probably the 3.5 hours of yard week in the afternoon). The boys and I are going to go swimming after church/lunch/naps today, so I'm hoping that will loosen me up a little. It's always something here. At about 1:30 a.m. last night, my husband and I were awoken to this sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zk1mAd77Hr4 Scared the living daylights out of me. He yelled, "Someone's screaming." I jumped up and was in the little boys' room in seconds. I stood there, both of them snoring, and then heard it again. And again. I love the foxes, but their cry is haunting. Our cat was all upset. She was up in my window growling at it -- I looked out, and saw it run across our drive way. Yikes. I hope everyone has a great day today. Edited by KansasMom 2012-04-22 10:31 AM |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Kirk and Allen, you rock! Congratulations. Allen - the first time is soooo cool. Enjoy the meat, the salt and tears. You've earned them all. Kirk - Great swim, great ride. I hope that you came out of the race with a big smile. Just missing the podium gives you something to shoot for next time, no? Have a great day everyone. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Too much pork, mac and cheese, and adult beverages last night. Woke up late, missed church, and have been moving with the same speed as a tree sloth. Some days are like this. I did get a short ride in on the bike. My wife and I rode up to Wal-Mart, got her a helmet and continued on to Dunkin' Donuts. Coffee and an egg sandwich got me fueled up for the 3.5 mile ride home I'll probably take today off and start again next week. Have a great day! |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Got up this morning and realized I had drunk a bit too much alcohol and eaten too much junk food last night, so I was in no mood to go on my planned 2 hour bike ride. On top of that the wind was already blowing pretty good before the sun was up, so I knew that meant a hard ride. The thought of riding in the hills with wind (projected up to 30mph) just didn't do anything for me. So, I took the dog on his walk, went to Einsteins and pick up a bagel and coffee and then told myself to load the bike and head out. Figured once I got on the bike I would feel better and if I didn't I could make it a short ride. I'm so glad I made myself go; it wasn't my best outing, but it still was a good one and I feel so much better! I ended up riding just 15 minutes less then was planned, but all in all a good morning. Hope everyone has a good week!

Just took my daughter to playmania (big indoor play area so she could also burn off some energy. Been massaging my calf like crazy and managed a few goes on the big yellow bumpy slide plus time in the ball pool. Bonus- i was the only dad there with my new Triathlon t shirt on. |

Salty- Those are fantastic shoes, and the brewery that makes Son of a Peach is RJ Rockers so you can keep an eye out. Yanti-Why were you hiding out from the cops? Mostly just curious... Thanks all for the well wishes and inspires, we ended up getting third in every event for the relay but ended up 4th so no podium but we were close and I think my friend is going to try a sprint tri with me this summer! Here is the race report http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=436334&posts=1&start=1
I will say that although I was close to puking by the end, mostly because I decided to hammer it home, I think I would have been good for the run had I trained for it mentally speaking. I had a lot of fun on both the swim and bike. At one point right after having the 2x caffine espresso love GU my coworker who was in the support van drove past me and I screamed at him... so he turned around and said I had waaay too much energy for mile 43 and should be peddaling harder. Which I did.
Catching up on house work today but will be looking for the UK contingent of the pod to sound off on his race. Great race Kirk! Sorry you missed the podium! |

I just read your race report and have one question: what is a chicken and cucumber french stick?! Not very exciting really, a french stick is a slightly crusty version of a sub roll but it is more doughy. Add chicken, cucumber and lashings of salad cream and away you go. Not usually eaten at 5am though. |

Master 6595 Rio Rancho, NM | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Mentor Group - FULL POD Congrats to both Kirk and Allen! Welcome to Triathletism Allen! As for my race... I love being here and seeing all of the teams. I got to talk with one of the support staff for a team from Hamburg! They sure came a long way for this. I had my race report completely filled out and it disappeared . I'll put it back in there when I feel like re-hashing it again! In a nutshell, the race got to me about an hour and a half later than expected, I started out feeling really good so I didn't pace myself as I should have. I had some stomach issues, possibly GI, possibly a huge stitch in my side, then got past that but didn't recover on the time, then finished it off with a tight calf. Overall ok but I missed my goal by 4 minutes (wanted to be sub 1 hour). Don't think I'll get my planned swim in today. Still fried from my 3:00 AM run... |

Quick update over a beer, Adrienne I am having Son of a Peach (local brew made with SC Peaches awesome if you can find it). Had an awesome swim 35 min! And a good bike sub 3 hours, I think. Our final time was like 5:55 will post more when not on iPhone. Congratulations!! I'm going to have to try to find that beer. I live in VA and our Whole Foods will usually get beer in if there are enough requests. |
