Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry!

So as not to clog the forum up with more quotes - I have just finished reading and have a couple comments / questions.

First - TJ - a bad coach is not worth money - dump his and go to the gym pool.  I agree - ask for a trial.  Most gyms will give you a 1 week pass for free.  That's enough time to find out if the pool is crowded on the days and hours you want to use it.

Second - I wouldn't pay for a membership and hope it motivates someone to go.  People need their own motivation.  All you can really say is "I would love it if you would join me at the gym, wanna go"  Hopefully they do.

What is DH and DS1? - I'm thinking "Da*n Husband - but can't figure out the DS1..

Lastly about almost getting hit while running... someone commented you should try running against traffic.  Does anyone run with traffic?  I am terrified to run with traffic (texting drivers) and I NEVER do it.

I have almost been hit - even with all my blinking lights and reflector bands...it's like people don't even notice..not sure why, but they don't.

Had an awesome 1 hour trainer session.  Watched the Biggest Loser on my DVR.  For some reason the bike trainer doesn't bother me.  I hate the "dreadmill", but my trainer is not a "drainer".. Am I alone in that?

About to head out for an "easy" 5 miles with a neighbor.  I promise to slow it down Salty..

And lastly - does anyone else like seeing all the colors on the "current training" graph in their training log?  That actually motivates me to do bikes / swims.  I like the way my graph looks as I'm adding hours for the week.  Is that weird?

I think it's supposed to be dear/darling husband... I substitute D*ckhead quite often.  DS1 I imagine is son no. 1....

I love my drainer/trainer too - dreadmill can't handle but the trainer bring it.

I got hit running the other week, just in broad daylight, guy racing out his driveway didn't stop so I did a good dent in his car.  I was happy with that.  Didn't hurt me but scared me and the last 2km of the 20 was tougher because of him.  If I had been a little kid he would have run me down.  Idiots.

As for finding the coloured graph motivating - that's not weird in this group at all.....

Ah, but see, a tread mill is more for than just running in the shade.     Hmmm,   haven't had a car come close to my sun room in ever so long.     Even a cheap tread mill, like the one I have, is worth it's weight in "goal".   *Bad pun, I apologize"      Say you can't run on a tread mill?  Then I say you aren't  serious about running.

Most people fail when they start to arbitrarily limit themselves.     "I have to do it one particular way or I can't or won't do it"  is the road to failure.

Not that I can't run on a treadmill I just don't.  I live in Melbourne, I've been kept inside once due to bad weather which was a severe hailstorm.  Also I obviously run badly on the treadmill, seems to hurt my calf muscles and my shins.....

I had to ask the same question once--I am sure in this case it was 'Darling' Husband, although I am sure it has been the other.  DS1=darling son 1.  DS2=younger son DD=daughter.

Re the colors: yes, it is weird. Laughing But I am the same way.  I hate that mine has no/little yellow on it right now...

I love this part!  May get a new sig line!  I need to think this when I look at my bike and I'm saying I can't ride it, I just can't.  Of course I can, it's a choice nothing else.  You my friend just inspired me.

That is a Manatee trait.

I can run on the dreadmill - I just choose not to.. LOL

I will go run outside, 30 degrees, dark and poring rain before I get on that dreadmill.  Now, if there is ice on the ground, and I can't skip a run for one day - and I have no other choice, then if pushed really hard and peer pressured into it, then I just MIGHT get on that damn thing.  MAYBE.  Laughing

Still better than aquajogging.  Trust me on this.  I hate the treadmill too, RARELY get on one, maybe 10 times in 3 years of running, but at least it is running...

Never tried it - Never will.. Actually, I sometimes enjoy running in inclement weather.  I don't just mean a light rain... Sometimes the worse the weather, the bigger the high I get from completing my run.  Tonight was very windy, and my running partner didn't like it..I loved it.

I think it has something to do with the extra challenge of completing the run.

It's happened 3-4 times now but by different cars on different roads. I do run against traffic. I do have a track that I run for my speed work but I would go crazy running all of my runs there. The police won't do much good. About a month ago one of the officers almost ran the biking group I was in off the road. He had pleanty of room to go around but obviously was irritated at us riding on the side of the road and pulled up within inches to us.

We don't have bike paths or running paths, It's not a very friendly bike or run town at all.

I don't know the size or quality of your law enforcement agency, but this cop's behavior is something I would report to the internal affairs division. I know in my agency he'd be in trouble and better not play that game again.

Pretty small (5 officers). I did talk to the chief about it and he was pretty upset about it. He said there have been quite a few reports of cyclist running our stop sign. That is no excuse but it doesn't help the reputation at all.

Jonathan TX, we should probably fill you in that there are many Manatees involved in law enforcement in one way or another.

I wasn't speaking negative about our law enforcement at all (I used to be one), I was trying to say that they have a bad taste already about cyclist so speaking to them might not help very much. I did talk to the chief after the bike incident.

@Chad  Thanks for posting the swim videos Chad. They are done very good quality especially slowing it down and it is helping me see and understand the form better.

Nice interval session on the bike this morning followed with a 5k brick run. Run after the bike felt really good. I can tell a huge difference in running after my Tri bike vs road bike. Got to the pool for my afternoon workout and swam 100 yards and was kicked out of the pool due to lightning. I didn't even see any lightning or hear any thunder but they said I had to get out and wait for 30 minutes so I left. Why does lightning effect an indoor pool?

On a positive note: Even though I only swam 100 yards I focused elbow and hand position and had a much better feel of the water. My slow warmup 100 yard swim was 20 seconds faster than my normal moderate swim. I don't think I was pushing the water back at all before

WTF - really.  20 seconds?  That is incredible.  Great job!

Granted I was pretty slow to start with but yup!! Went from 2:05 to 1:45 just from applying what you and Yanti said.

You, sir, are a frickin' MANATEE in the water. They may look docile but they can go really fast!

We've got a wicked (okay, fairly ordinary for tropical rainy season) storm happenin' here, no electricity because power lines got downed. Who knows when they'll be back up. Things are kind of haphazard here.

Pups are inside, I'm full of chili and brown rice and very happy.

jobaxas - 2013-01-08 9:06 PMAlso I obviously run badly on the treadmill, seems to hurt my calf muscles and my shins.....

Your stride is different on a treadmill than running outside.

Hi Peeps, just checking in, off to work yet again Only for a night though and then another 2 days off I promise to add to the discussion then, just don't know how to work a 70 hour week, fit a 13 hr training week in and have time to type on here lol.

On another note, I just PB my 5Km by 2m 09s, still not fast, but I'm having it and it's the right direction toward my target of 20 min Plus it was day 10 of training  (excuses, excuses lol) Will try to get on tomorrow. Cheers, train safe.

Who is the Man!?!?!?! That would be you, oh yeah!

Ack! Sorry that aquajogging is less fun than TM running.

Kirsten, what injury did Tracy have before IM Wisconsin?  Something with her foot or ankle that she ended up running on the TM more than outside.

In other news, when are we going to get our hockey schedules?
