Welcome.  Post a short bio of yourself and jump right in the conversation.  Feel free to ask anything on your mind.  There are no rules here except we keep the discussion focused on swim, bike, and run.

Time for me to start incorporating longer rides into the schedule as things get more specific for HIM.  2 hours today and 2.5 hours Sunday.  At this point, it looks like the snow should melt by June so we got that going for us.

Interesting point on the mental side of things Fred.  I often make deals with myself too.  Just yesterday in the pool, I had a very tough 10x200 set in the pool with a tough send-off.  I told myself after 3 just to make it to 5 and re-evaluate.  Well once I made it to 5 I was in the zone and by 6 knew I would make it through all 10.  So much of this stuff is mental.

Trying to do the same.  Made it a bit over two hours last Sunday and will shoot for 3 or so this Sunday.  Hope you hammer your rides!

Actually had a minor freak-out (to the extent I ever really freak out about something that's fun) this morning that I just won't be able to get my bike where I want it by my first long race (6/8).  I have 3 months, but the trainer sessions have not been exactly great (I'm trying, though).  I need to get outside, but I have a snow mound in the backyard that is TEN FEET tall at the moment (no kidding).  Argh!

I feel like my run and swim are *getting* there, but just don't know about the bike.  And it's all about the bike, cuz it's all about the run...

C'mon SPRING!!

Matt

Me 3!!!!!

Tomorrow it will be 45-50 or so.  I'll be out on the bike aiming for 2.5 hours or so.  Maybe a bit ez but that will depend on the hills.

Tomorrow looks nice - was going to switch my run to Sunday, but have to take one kid in town for music and then have an interview in the afternoon, so I'll be running early tomorrow instead (although I thought long and hard about chancing a ride first thing, there will be copious black ice from today's mini-melt until about noon).

Gonna shoot for a ride OUTSIDE on Sunday mid-day.  Trying for 3 hours, which should be doable on the road bike if the weather is as forecast and life doesn't get in the way (mid-day workouts are tougher to stick to on the weekends than if I start when only the Better Half is awake!).

Chris - you too, huh (or, you four… whatever).

Sounds like the three of us should've hitched up with the power group!  Now Shane's doing a run group next… Man, did I get this all backwards.

Just FYI, You guys are cracking me up with your Strava comments. if only I was on the other end of the island....

I too am supposed to have what should be a 3 hour ride on Sunday as well - I get in around 10pm Saturday night and if I feel up to it on Sunday then I will jump into the "a" group on one of our faster Morning rides. Tomorrow morning is an OWS And maybe a little beach time before heading for the airport,

Hi Pitbullerick - welcome to the group!I see in your profile you are getting ready to do your first sprint race - that is very exciting!
This group has a tremendous amount of racing and training knowledge so anything you want to know just ask it.
It is also very good to see that you are logging your workouts here on the website - keep doing that as we will all follow your progress along and it is helpful to see when answering questions.

When you have time do post your bio here. Some of the things that are helpful to know are:

1) what is your real first name? You will quickly note that this is not like other parts of the forum: this isn't an anonymous group.
2) what is your triathlon story: race history, how/why you got into the sport or perhaps why you are just now diving in.
3) Family status
4) what does your current training look like?
5) what (if any) races did you do last season?
6) what are your planned races this season?
7) what are your goals for this year?
8) what will make you a good member of the group?

And finally, being in Venezuela it will be extremely painful for you to have to listen to the Canadians constantly whining about the cold and snow. But don't worry - in about 4 more months when the snow finally melts they will start complaining about the heat and black flies. So enjoy this while it lasts - it gets worse..... ;^)

You know you could just ride your bike to the Beast then run it and ride back.  Just saying there is always a way to train.

1.5 hour OWS island circumnavigation in lovely blue Caribbean water. Mostly easy with lots of sea life watching, 15 minutes of torrential downpour (really cool) then glorious sunshine. Finished up with 20 minutes hard, 5 minutes recovery, then 20 minutes really hard. 4800 yards total. Never made it to the beast - I suppose I will have to come back in order to prove myself. Currently winging it to Miami, then on ATL to officially start spring break!

First road race tomorrow.  Hopefully weather will cooperate and the rain will let up.  Very short race that's basically a 4.7 mile climb averaging 4% and a 2 mile flattish section going into the finish.  There is a sweeping right turn about 200 yards before the finish line, so just praying for dry roads at least at that corner...the rest of the course is pretty straight (point to point uphill) so it shouldn't be a problem.

Since the race is short (less than 8 miles / 30 minutes), I'm not sure how everything will play out.  Early attacks are certain, but it's just a matter of who responds.  I've got a general plan on what I'll do in various scenarios...but like Mike Tyson says...

The swim is ALWAYS a cause for concern when it comes to competing in a triathlon. This is the event for which you need to concentrate on RELAXING.
