So you will be just doing a longer ride than what the plan has? That sounds OK, but at this point the difference between a 75 and 100 miler really isn't that big for your over all fitness. Most of the hay is in the barn at this point and we just need to stay healthy. edit: How is the knee?

Doug, Thanks for the input and for asking about the knee. The patellar tendonitis seems to be responding well to the anti imflamitories and I will be starting the steroid pack in a couple of days. Hopefully that will take care of it. To be on the safe side, I will continue to aqua jog for a week or two to be certain. I will just do the work outs according to the plan and drive on. Thanks again. |

You guys are on some crazy plans. I "only" has a 5:30 bike today and put in 112 miles. Destroyer, all of your training times/distances look to be on par with mine. Just curious, what is your goal for each leg? I'm shooting for some ambitious stuff, but here are mine: 1:08 5:21 3:22 I agree, I am getting boreddddd with training. In fact, I have gotten so bored and unenthused with my weekend long rides around Milwaukee area that I have to go to Madison to ride the ironman course (which I love) in order to get those full rides in. I don't think I've 'peaked' yet, but I'm damn close to it, and I'm just itchin to get out on that race course in Louisville. The only thing really missing is my heat training. Sounds like everyone's 7AM runs are as hot as our 2PM runs... I wonder if they allow us to drag the treadmills into the saunas... |

My training plan only has a 2 week taper, so after a recovery week last week, I have 2 more solid weeks of training including 112 mi bike and a 20 mi run this week and a 4hr/1hr brick next week. |

Sounds like everyone's 7AM runs are as hot as our 2PM runs... I wonder if they allow us to drag the treadmills into the saunas... I want the swim to be 1hr +/- 2 minutes Bike between 5 and 5:20 (5:20 being more likely) and run between 3:15 and 3:25 I want to go sub 10 overall. I'm not getting heat here either so I'm creating my own by driving with the heater on in my car and doing my runs in long sleeves and a hooded sweatshirt. People on the path must think I stole something when I run by them at 6 min miles wearing a black sweatshirt with hood tied and black shorts. I found a nice heat acclimation sauna plan on a badwater forum that was a month long and listed times and temps for the sauna each day, but I just don't have the time to go to the gym everyday and just sit there. I don't even take the time to wash the dished until the weekend anymore. The San Francisco Marathon used "Worth the Hurt" as their motto, but let me tell you that that Ironman finish line is most definitely worth the hurt! |

If the forecast is correct then the trend is a bit disturbing. The days are tracking 8 to 10 degrees above normal so if that carries through to race day then we are looking at +/-96 degree heat. Granted, we have all been training this in this, but a bit cooler would be nice. |

Elite 3683 Whispering Pines, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread From the RRs I've read here on BT, the run course will not offer much shade. The second half has some, but not much. If the mercury even approaches mid 90s, that race is going to have ALOT of heat injuries and many dreams will melt with the high temps. |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I just got back from vacation, probably not the time to take 4 days off, but well needed. I ended up running about 35 miles while I was at the beach, so it was not a complete waste. And I got my first experience of OWS-ocean swimming. It was a lot of fun! I dont know if it has quite hit me yet that IMKY is less than a month out. I think I am running on autopilot at this point, and just trying to not think about it too much. Lets hope that the taper can work some magic, I have felt slow lately! |

Expert 617 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Alright so the 2010 Athlete's Guide hasn't been published yet but I was looking at the 2010 Schedule online and saw this "Bike and Run Special Foods BagsYou will receive a blue bike special foods bag and red run special foods bag at athlete check-in. A special foods station will be located near the mid-point on the bike and run course. These special foods stations are for special nutritional purposes only and only food items will be allowed in the bags. All unclaimed bags will be discarded after the station is closed. Prior to the swim start, leave your bags in the designated drop area inside the transition area" |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread They had the same wording for IM Cozumel this year. I guess you can put anything in there that you don't mind losing. I'm willing to throw away a couple band aids, but not a $90 tubbie.

I already assumed we wouldn't get anything back from the SN (actually SF) bags but the "won't be allowed" part threw me. I doubt they open up each bag to check but that would be pretty evil if they enforced it verbatim since band aids and aspirin were part of my plan (and I was considering socks too if it is hot that day). I'd hope that they would inform you during bag drop off if something wasn't going to be allowed in the bag (but that could get kind of hectic) and that they wouldn't check the bags after that point. I would HATE to plan on something....say socks for example....being in the bag and say dump water on myself at aid stations to cool off and them not be in the bag when you get there.....of course, I've heard of SN bags going missing too. Plan, plan, plan....they are monkeying with my plan! |

Expert 668 Lancaster, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Checking some of your times the last month certainly puts me to shame the amount of time I've been able to put on training. From the looks of it, I am going into this undertrained. There is this thing called work that seems to get on the way of training. Yesterday I was able to get out and did 102 on the bike with over 6,000 feet of climbing and no glide. When I got to mile 90 the "it" was screaming and telling me to get off the bike asap. I followed the bike with a 4 mile run and the legs felt great. I am still working on dialing in nutrition. I had no issues on the bike with the Infinit but after the first mile running, I knew there will be issues after 10+miles of running. Good luck to everyone and all of those shooting for a slot to Kona. I have long run planned for tomorrow 21+ with a swim. We'll see how that goes and hopefully weather will cooperate. Thomas |
