wgraves7582 - 2010-03-18 8:50 AM You bEASTies have a great day!  Train hard but not too hard!!!  Drink a lot (alcohol not water or gatorade) and remember St Pattys Day lasts 2 days for people in the east!!!

Ummm, make that through Sunday.  I guess that adds up to 5 this year!

Artemis - 2010-03-17 10:15 PM 15.51 miles biking done today!  Also got a pair of Vibrams in the mail.  Good day!

REALLY???  Have you used Vibrams before?  Did you test out this pair yesterday?  What did you think?

I've worn my husband's around the house before, but never had my own pair until yesterday.  I wore them about 2 hours.  I love them.  Definitely notice my legs are sore in weird places because they are not used to those muscles, but I think it's going to be a good change.

There's a pic in my log.

Jen, Love the pic... how are they from a size perspective?  I am either an 11 1/2 or 12, depending on manufacturer.  I see they have a strap across the top... are they adjustable at all.  I want to order a pair!!!

They are not sized by normal American sizes.  Mine are a 40, which happens to line up with what I wear in Danskos and Birkenstocks, but they do not always.  The Vibram website has a chart for length of your foot and how to measure.  The top is a little adjustable and there is also velcro on the heel that helps adjust.  I think the heel is more for adjusting the fit and the top strap is to keep it in place.

Jen, THANKS you have given more info on these shoes in these posts than I have heard so far. Of course, now I want em, too!

I'm thinking of getting a pair... what do you think of them?

I have a pair of Classics and a pair of the KSO's; I love walking around the house, etc, but haven't yet tried running in them. I'm not sure my knees and ankles will really let me run without motion control/stability/etc but I'm dying to try.

I got the Sprints.

A uses them on the treadmill to start.  He usually starts in his Vibrams and runs for 10 - 15 minutes, then switches to regular shoes.  He's been pretty conservative about running in them - started with 3 minutes and has worked his way up because he said it's a pretty big shift.  His ankles have always caused him problems (multiple sprains), so that's been the hardest for him.
My husband got a pair as well.  Hasn't run outside in them yet and has been on a very slow build-up of time thus far.  He has PF issues and thinks they are helping.  'Course it could also be that he is just not running much....

billsorg - 2010-03-18 12:54 PM First we obsess about girl scout cookies... now it's crazy shoes with little toes on them.  I'm going to check to see if my local running shop has them.  I'm a little behind on my goals... I know I'll be fine with running since the half mary this weekend will put me at about 85-90% of that goal.  Biking should be OK too... Swimming will be a challenge.  But my thoughts at the beginning of the month were to go heavy run leading up the the half mary and then focus almost completely on bike/swim.  So I'm about 85% sure I should get to my goal.

Daughter update... my wife said she's feeling much better.  She's eating and keeping everything down.  Just heard from a friend that the rotovirus (sp?) is going around, but it's just a 24-hour thing.  That's probably what she has.  Hopefully, we're out of the woods!

Glad she is feeling better!

x2

X3.  Rotovirus was tearing up southern New England last month.  Sorry you are dealing with it now.  Not a fun 24 hours although some folks found it went on a bit longer than that even.  Erica had too many puking posts last month poor girl!!

I got my first 2010 over 20 mile outdoor ride in this morning.  My goal for the month was 3 outdoor rides so I am 2/3 done.  I was conservative on my goal given the weather and other commitments.  I love the new bike.  Still getting used to aero though!

Hoping to get to the poool this afternoon but that's iffy depending on when my 2:00 webinar ends... either way plan to bike tonight. My swim % is low, but it's really just 3 times I need to get to the pool. My bike % is a little low but I'm actually exactly on plan. I just had a slow starting plan. I should make my swim, bike and run goals for the month. The weight loss one is harder to predict... It's still doable. Just not as easy for me to control as the other 3!

Personally, I think I'd rather have a cold.  Colds do not cause green goo in my eyes that prevents me from opening them in the morning like my allergies do.

I had the sore throat thing last week.  Now my coworker has been sick all week.  I better not get it back.

Swimming tonight before school.  It's 17°C (63°F) here today and I'm stuck inside!!!  Of course, it'll be cooler and raining on the weekend.

Boy, what a chatty bunch today!  I'm all caught up.

Bill, glad your daughter is feeling better.  The pukes is just awful for everyone involved.

No one pass out but I went swimming!  It felt great to get in the water again.  It has been months since I have been.  I really need to get into some sort of a routine.  I'll have to figure it out soon.

Off to walk the puppy.  It is too nice outside to sit inside.  Catch you later!

kns57 - 2010-03-18 8:51 AM Good morning bEASTies!  I'll be getting a swim in today inbetween my afternoon meeting and the evening board meeting.  Then I'll just sit there with goggle eyes and let them all wonder what I've been up to or am on.  LOL

Nothing underscores my diminishing collagen production quite like the goggle eye hickeys that last 18 hours.  Every time I get out of the pool, I look like someone beat me with a stick!

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-18 8:49 AM Bill:

Great post yesterday but I am ignoring it until next month ok?  - LOL!

Thanks Bill!  For those who don't get over to the enemy T.W.I.S.T.E.R. thread, I was feeling a little competitive yesterday and in the mood for a little trash talk.  Here's the message I left on their thread...

Hello team T.W.I.S.T.E.R.
Hi, I'm Bill from the Beginner Triathlete I.T. department.  I'm here to inform you that you're team has too many posts and you should all reduce your number of posts to a maximum of 2 PER WEEK through the end of this challenge.  Unless, of course, your BT status is "Muck Raker" or "Dork Face", in which case you should post only once per week.

Furthermore... your prolific BT logs are jamming up our servers, so the I.T. department respectfully asks that you significantly decrease the volume of your workouts.  Heck, it's St. Patty's day, so why not just take the rest of the month off?  Rest is nice.  Rest is good.  Grab a green beer and blow off that workout.  Triathlon training is REEEEEALLY hard.  Maybe do some bowling or some basket weaving.

We appreciate your support,
The BT.com I.T. Department

Have a great day everyone!

Very devious!  I hope at least a few of them fell for it.  Too funny.

billsorg - 2010-03-18 9:21 AM My wife and I were awoken to the lovely sounds of child-puking last night... Did ya ever notice that $^*$%!#$*! never happens at noon, it's always 1:30 in the freaking morning?!?!?  Anyway, we were up and down for several hours and my morning workout became a casualty of the situation.  I'm going to make a valiant effort toget to the gym around 3 today for a treadmill run, but the work schedule may not cooperate.  ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

I wonder if there is some medical condition that until you hit 17 or so that all puking must be between the hours of 12am and 4am.  You continue longer but it starts during these time periods.

Anyone a doctor or sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night care to answer?

Sorry about that Bill - still a great post yesterday!

Nope, your theory doesn't work.  When they hit college, most of their puking is still done between 12 and 4.

One more thing:  Do you mind if I toot my own horn a bit?  Today, at the pool I swam a PR of 100 yds at 1:29.  OK, I know it was only ONE 100, but I'll take it!  Now, if I could just do that for 2.4 miles, I'd be set.

TOOOT TOOOOT there I helped you! Way to go.

1:29 is great! I wish I could get within :10 of that!

Thanks, but you have to realize I only did it once--and it was everything I had.  Now, if I could only find a tri with a 100 yard swim...

OK Folks,  I am falling way behind with my running.  My HM training group has run 12 miles, and I am only up to 8.  If I don't run at least 9 miles at lunch today... (gulp) I should be tased.

Okey dokey. You have 3 hours to report back, before I come after you with a taser in each hand.

I am pleased to report that I completed a run of exactly 10 miles.  It was a slow ten miles, but I'll take it.  So, go ahead and holster that taser until next week!
