It looks like CdA is scheduled to have 2 weeks of warm weather, so that should help.

I had said that I would put together some workouts starting the week before the race. My job thought differently. I will have to work out of town Sunday and not return till late Wednesday. really not looking forward to being out of town the week of Ironman. I will be back in town for the Thursday drive around the bike course to help drive.

only 16 more days.

I have been a lurker for a few weeks. Good luck to everyone. I have been incredibly impressed with some of your workouts and training. Bib #2022 - the year I qualify for Kona! Haha.Race day can't come soon enough. I am a little tired of thinking about it. I have one IM under the belt, but it was Louisville in 2010 which was an ugly experience given the extreme heat. I am not sure if I learned anything from that one which will help with CDA. I'm doing the Kansas 70.3 tomorrow. Hot and humid and likely no wetsuit. Very different from CDA.

I will definilty wear ear plug!!!  I wear the blue TYR ones (the silcone ones that you form yourself get stuck in my hair somehow when trying to pull them out).  If the water is cold and I don't wear ear plugs I get very very sea sick!!

I did CdA last year as my first IM and loved it.  I have been lurking this year and just wanted to stop in to wish you all the best of luck.

I also wanted to give a little advice.  When I turned down Sherman avenue it was one the the best feelings of the day.  It was just starting to get dark and the lights were like a landing strip leading you to the glowing finish at the end of the road (what is that about a 1/4 mile maybe?)  The crowds were cheering us all on.  I had a big gap between me and the racer in front and behind me so I was essentially racing alone.

That pumps you up BIG time.  So I started running faster.  And faster, and faster.  By the time I crossed the line I was almost at a full sprint.

Don't do this (unless of course you are trying to PR or go for a Kona slot)!  I got so caught up in the moment I almost missed my name being called and the "you are an Ironman" announcement.

I did not see my wife and family in the crowds until after I had crossed the line.  I did not get to make eye contact with the people cheering me on.  I did not SAVOR the moment.

Take time to enjoy it.  After 14 hours of suffering an extra 1 min would not have made any difference to my time.  But it would have made a HUGE difference to how I remember the event.

I loved my experience there and had a great day and was a highlight of my tri career to date.  But if I had to do it all over I would have taken more time to enjoy and soak in that last 1/4 mile.

Good luck everyone.  Have a great race!

PS: Just typing this makes me get all gooey and excited on the inside.  Jealous of you all.  My next scheduled IM is in FL.  Nowhere NEAR as pretty.

A great weekend for me. Saturday was a 15miler with a PR in 2:03 and then Sunday knocked out 85m with 6500ft elevation and felt the best I have in years! I was very stoked and figured if I can feel as good as I did this weekend I will be fine for CdA. After this is my first official Tri since my swim was cancelled in my 70.3

Also ordered some new gear and gonna ship bike this week. It is so real right now!

We lost a fellow IM CdA racer yesterday.  He was tragically killed by a motorist while out on a training ride here in Amarillo, TX.  He would have been wearing bib #2410.  RIP Jeff.  Please keep your thoughts and prayers with his wife and two kids.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to Jeff's family and friends. They will be in my prayers, that they will be comforted at this time. Jeff will definately be on my mind on the 24th.

I hate, hate, hate hearing things like this.  Truly awful news and tragic on so many levels.  I can only hope he's in a better place right now and his wife and kids can find some comfort.

It sure puts in perspective my trivial concerns about race day.

Agree with Patrick, this certainly gives perspective to race day.

Thats awful! I can't say that I don't think about that happening on most of my rides. I feel terrible for the family.

I need to get some new goggles.  I've been swimming in the same (tinted) pair for years, but they started to give me a headache as my swims got over 3k, so I got some goggles from a friend that bought the wrong size (they are Speedo, but I can't figure out which model) which work perfectly, but they are clear and I think I'll need something tinted for race day with the sun.

I remember reading a while back that the color tint is very important because some colors can make the buoys really hard to see.  I have a hard enough time seeing them as is!

Any suggestions?

I just bought the metallic tinted TYR Nest goggles.  I've used them swimming into the sun and had very little difficulty spotting my fellow swimmer's different colored caps or the white buoys we were sighting off of in the lake.  I've heard that blue can sometimes make the usually bright colored buoys look almost brown so very hard to spot on the lake.

Last year at CdA they gave out TYR, Orion goggles to the first few hundred to check in.  Some friends got them and raved and raved about them.  I had been wearing Vanquishers for years but finally gave in and bought some because my old goggles would give me headaches and HURT after an hour.  I LOVE these goggles!!!!!!!
