ArielLIlB - 2012-07-18 2:57 AM Now, Edward Norton's dad's name is Edward Norton, Jr., he runs marathons for his chartiable trust, he is a phenomenal actor...nothing about an Ann...is it Edward Norton?? I really should be working and not doing this, but I can't stop! I love a good mystery

DING DING DING DING DING

We have a winner!

Ann is his stepmom. His mother passed away some time ago, but Ann had been a close family friend before that.

I taught American History X several times at university.

ArielLIlB - 2012-07-17 2:29 PM My final guess is Cuba Gooding Jr.  I'm assuming I only get three guesses.  (No, jk, those are the only 3 actors that google found in response to "actor junior" haha).
We gotta narrow it down to : 1) Jr in his name 2) Mom's name is "Ann" (or so we've been told, but that could be a red herring). 3) He runs marathons.

Does he actually use the "Jr." in his celebrity name?

ArielLIlB - 2012-07-18 2:16 AM I googled "actor junior" - is it Freddie Prinze Jr.?? I totally bet it's Freddie Prinze Jr.  He's amazing.

Very very good guess! But alas ... no. It is not Frederick Prinze Sr and Mrs. Frederick Prinze Sr that I slum around with.

Lol, that's good b/c I was going to be a little judgy-wudgy about you having such a crush on 'ol Freddie.  How about Robert Downey Jr? Now that dude can act...

He is absolutely amazing in everything he does ... any genre, any how, and has been for nearly 30 years!

However, he is an acquaintance of mine, so that rules him out. By the way, he is wonderful in person.

Yanti, you never cease to amaze me.  I love that about you.

He's great, apparently. Oddly enough my sister has met him socially (but not his parents 'til tonight), and says at least from that one encounter he seemed very much like what is reported about him ... very low key, down to earth.

I think it's much cooler that I taught Jim Carrey's dog water sports, and was the last person with her before she passed away. What a cool dog! This is so bizarre, but she responded much better if I spoke in a Jim Carrey voice.

I ran into Robert Downey Jr. while doing some continuing volunteer work and we happened to be in the same place at the same time every Wednesday night for a few months and wound up exchanging numbers. Again, acquaintance ... someone I'd call for a small favor or question, but probably not just to chat.

Agree with whoever said they want to read Yanti's autobiography.  It's gotta be a he## of a tale!!

Basically just dropping in to make my 800th post be with the Mad Manatees

Leaving for Lake Placid tomorrow morning early, am planning on taking the ancient laptop along to check in, post pics and workouts.  Maybe.    Can't wait!!!  May try to meet up with some fellow BTers for a swim and or bike and or beer.

OOOOH, I'll play! My guess is Edward Norton Jr.  It fits many of your "clues" if your friend, Ann, is a step-mother.

ETA: Oh, never mind.  Someone else got it while I was "investigating"

well, in your defense, I would never in a million years imagine that the older gentleman I know in Bali named Edward Norton is the FATHER of actor Edward Norton.  How random??? But then again, knowing what I know about your life (which is only a snippet, but that snippet is FASCINATING, adventurous, completely out of the ordinary and unreal), it probably was pretty silly of you NOT to jump to the conclusion that you are chillin' with Edward Norton's dad in Bali, NBD.

Warning, new avatar! No more kitty pic, now we've got a legit triathlete photo! (I made the guy next to me in transition take it, confessing that I am a nerd - after the race was over, of course, not during!)

YOU'RE NOT A BLACK AND WHITE CAT?!

Lookin' fantastic, Brie!

And you're learning ... make piglets do things for you at races.

YOu know it! There were quite a few cute little piglets at the race and I kept thinking, I should get a photo with him, Yanti (and some other boy crazy manatees...looking at you, Jo) would truly appreciate!

Ha that is soooo true, love my boys!

Oh my, I have MISSED my MANATEES!  I just spend the last 45 minutes reading through 20 pages (you kids have been busy!) and am very thankful to you all for the stomach workout I received from laughing!!  You guys are SOO entertaining!  And I love it that we're never far away from pigglets and booze!

Great job last weekend all you RACING MANATEES!!  Fantastic work!

Great photos, girls, for the tunnel and of the cute little  froggies! love!

Yant - you story about MR CELEB is awesome!

I was sailing and taking photos of sailing all weekend (on Hobie 16's and Hobie 20s - SO fun)  I did get a bike ride in with my AWESOME-IST dad and a swim early at the beach so that's good, but I'm telling myself it's taper for my HIM this weekend

I'll try not to stay away for too long - It seems like I miss all the fun when I'm not around!!

Random Yanti self-absorbed thought time ... (okay, okay, I realize that's EVERY time ... )

I've spent a lot of time reflecting upon why it is that I am such a complete idiot when it comes to gauging my own health and appropriately adjusting activity level.

I pretty much grew up in hospitals, undergoing a lot of painful medical tests and procedures and taking a bunch of seriously yucky medicines. So I think my baseline for "I feel fine, this is normal" is really fundamentally skewed. I don't know that it's ever going to readjust, but at least I'm intellectually aware of it now.

And that, among other rather odd and somewhat traumatic aspects of my upbringing (including having two very traumatized parents who never had the opportunity to deal with it, frankly, never even realized it), means that I feel that every day is my last. I know in my head that's not true, but that's the way the emotions go.

Every race is the very last time I'll be able to do a race. That's why I do them regardless of how stupid it is. Every meal is my last meal, so I want to make sure I have everything I want (never mind if the combination is really strange, unhealthy, or just way too much. I've gotten much better at this, though, so there's hope for the other areas). Every piglet is definitely the last piglet I'll have a chance with!

On the plus side, I make the most of every moment and live in great joy and celebration most of the time. You've all seen the downsides. So I just wanted to put that out there ... step 1 is awareness and admitting ...

I've been thinking a lot about what you've said here. I think it's good that you are beginning to realize these things about yourself -- we all need to be more self aware. You can name incidents and specific things that may have lead to you responding to the way you do. That's more than a lot of people can do (and I'm not sure I can do it with all things, either.)

As I was reading your post, I thought of my dad. He had a similar situation as yours -- he had rheumatic fever as a child -- spent a year or two at home, away from school. When he went back to school, he couldn't participate in a lot of activity -- no PE; no sports. He became a mama's boy and afraid of dying. For good reason.

He had his first heart surgery before I was born. He and my mother had been married just a few months, and my mother was pregnant with me when the surgeons told her that if he survived the surgery, he wouldn't live past the age of 30.

When I was in junior high, and my dad was 31 or 32, he had open heart surgery to replace the damaged valve. Doctors told him then that he wouldn't live past the age of 50.

Fast forward, at about 50 years old, new valve, new technology. He lived to be 70!!! Completely amazing. I saw him, really for the last time, a month after his 70th birthday. He couldn't believe he had lived to see that age. Unfortunately, he didn't survive the last surgery to do some repair work on his heart; he died in the 5th month of his 71st year.

The differences, however, are vast. He lived almost his whole life in fear of death. If we were sick, he wouldn't come near us. He was never very physically loving -- I don't ever remember being kissed by him. If we hugged him, he was skittish. He just didn't want to be close to people. He ended up, at the end of his life, with a kind of social anxiety disorder. He wanted so badly to live, but he wasn't living.

(This judgment probably isn't completely fair -- after his first open heart surgery, he was able to be active for the first time since he had been a young child. He and I took up cycling, and he loved to go hiking. Even into his 60s, he was walking/hiking 8-10 miles a day. I coveted his calves. They were monstrous!)

You shouldn't be foolish, and you probably have been foolish with your health a few times (ahem, ahem), but I also think it's important to live. Life is valuable and precious. It does little good to covet life and then sit in your room, secluded from the world because you are afraid you are going to catch a disease from someone.

Just a few of my random thoughts. Well, okay, maybe more than a few. Tongue out
