Hey guys,

I'm not sure if I want to do my regular 2 mile swim tomorrow or do this Tri Group Swim-Run-Swim-Run social thing that they have planned?  I did a tough track-workout tomorrow (which I've never done before) so do you guys think I should be fairly recovered tomorrow for the run portions.  Sorry.  Distances are 200M-2 miles-200M-2 miles.

Guess biggest deciding factor is whether my wife wants me home at 7:00 or at 9 since the group thing starts at 7:00 where my swim is normally through at 6:45...

Any suggestions?

As for Independence Day Stuff.  Probably some Cheddar-Wursts on the grill, Watermelon, Maybe Shrimpers.  Babies will be asleep when the fireworks usually go so I think we'll sit in our bedroom and watch them.  The Marlins' and Cardinals' spring training stadium is less than a mile from my house so they always have fireworks on Friday nights.  They'll probably be spectacular tomorrow.

Still gotta say though, I wish I could have some blue crabs from up there in Maryland Traci.  I know you said it's too expensive, but that was our 4th of July thing all through high-school. mmm, old bay...

What's up Team Lauren! I hope I haven't been voted off the island yet. I'm back home now, and trying to get back into the groove. Work is really busy playing catch up and getting ready for a huge inspection next week, so that's going to keep me tied up. Then I'm going on leave for a week down mom's in FL. School was a good time. I didn't get to train out there as much as I wanted to, but they had us doing a lot of different types of excercises that I wouldn't normally have done, so the diversity was good. Now I'm setting my sights on CajunMan in Sep, and Rock N' Roll marathon in Nov. Goal is just to survive both, so I'm going to be focusing primarily on running the next few months.

Hope the rest of you are doing good. Good luck to all you racers this weekend!

I tihnk you'll be fine doing the swim-run-swim-run. It sounds like a good time and it sounds like you want to do it. Just don't push the runs too hard if you're not feeling fully recovered.

Hi Jeremy, good to hear from you !

What's up Team Lauren!

Team Lauren, I like that .

Good to hear from you Jeremy!  I'd be curious to see how your typical runs in flat LA compare now that you've faced the hills of california.  Let us know!

I just went for a 4+ miler outside in my hot new REI skirt.  man, i am not built for summer, 75 degrees is just too hot for me.  i can handle it i guess, but if you get up to 80 i'd just go to the gym.  i MUUUUUUUCH prefer running in 35 to 75.  am i crazy?  anyway, i've lost running fitness for sure, but not as much as i would have thought, i'm not too unhappy with how today went.  though i need to pick it up for my first oly at the end of the month.

side note, today i am babysitting our neighbor's little boy.  so i can get my baby fix without actually, you know, having a baby

Ok, had to roll the eyes a little Lisa....   It was 92 degress on my way to work this morning, at 7:30 AM!!!!!

But I hear you about the heat.  I'm "fast" when it's in the 60's and 70's.  When it hits 90's and 100's, I'm 1 -2  minutes slower per mile.....  It's rough.

EVERYONE!  Have a good, and SAFE, holiday weekend!

HOOOTTT!! Props to you for training in Vegas during the summer!  I definitely think it's hot when it gets above 80 here.... evidenced by my blistering 10k race speed when it was 80 on race morning

Do you do anything special to help out with the heat or just HTFU?

Well, other than drink more than you would think you need to, and plan when to train (out of the direct sun and at "cooler" parts of the day) it's just HTFU.

There are other little things too, like LOTS of sunscreen, and lighter colored clothes, the usual.

Drink lotsa water...

Careful Lisa with watching that kid.  It's easy to watch a kid for a few hours, but every-day, every night, every morning...ugh.  My wife and I had to watch that show "The Baby Borrowers" last night.  It was pretty good I think. My wife was like "where do we sign our kids up?"

yes, lots of water when it's hot, to make up for the extra sweat loss.

and i totally watched that show!  just the second half, but it was pretty funny.  but it does reinforce the idea that kids are a crapload of work!  literally!!!   i only looked after him for about an hour, not even a diaper change required.  but he was so adorable.  but man, you can't your eyes off them for a minute!

You really got-off eeeeeasy!!!

Poopy diapers aren't even an issue anymore.  Scarry thing is that little girls give no warning when they decide to pee...

So sorry for the imagery.  I'm finally out of the office.  Have a happy and safe independence day everyone!!!

hope everyone had a great 4th!!  we spent it with the neighbors whose baby i watched, and man is he adorable.  but man is he tiring, you cannot take your eyes off of him for a second.  it was nice when they went back to their apt and we just sat on the couch and relaxed for the rest of the night.  no fireworks for us, we just watched the swimming trials on TV instead.  pretty inspiring.  man they are FAST!!!!!!

My fourth was good as well. Relaxing too. I just did the same thing I've done every 4th of July my entire life -- parade in the AM with my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins and their spouses and kids (on my mom's side), and then bbq at my parents' house. My brother and I opted out of the fireworks this year, though. I get a bit bored with them these days, and the Olympic trials were on.

The training has been low key this weekend due to taper.

can any of you gold members talk about why you like gold and what it does for you?  or even silver...i like my bronze but i just wonder what those really do for you.  extra plans don't mean much to me because i don't rely too much on BT plans anyway.

just curious

Olympic Swimming, Track and Field and then Tour de France.  It's a pretty great time of year.  The swimmers did look really fast Lisa.  I felt like such a slug in the water last Wednesday after watching them.  Katie Hoff's Coach went to Junior High with me.  It was pretty funny seeing him on television.  Last time I saw him, I was the lifeguard at his swim meet. I think he swam for Towson State.

I got-in a 13-mile run on Saturday.  Longest run I've ever done.  It was pretty rough going from mile 11 to mile 13 because I ran-out of run/walk intervals on my workout since I had only planned for it to be a 10-mile run.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't enamored by fireworks.  I just consider them kinda annoying right now since the kids are asleep during them and they scare the dog.  Some doofus set a big one off at 2 am in the parking area behind my house and I jumped-out of bed like I was back in Iraq with the indirect fire coming in.  I woke everyone up with my jump I think except my son who was woken up by the boom because his room is on that side of the house.  I'm sure I'll like them more when I can take the kids to a ball-game and eat dippin dots while watching the fireworks.  Just a few more years...

Hey guys! Just got back from a visit with the in-laws in Kansas, had a fun time out there, they are soooooo into fireworks it is scary. The whole town smells for 3 days and you have to watch where you drive and walk

Hope all of your training/racing this weekend is going well. I did a little run this morning after taking 5 days off, it feels like there is stress and nerves pooring out of my ears!

About the gold membership: I originally did silver to check out the training plans, then I switched up to gold later on (cost is adjusted for this so it was less). I did end up asking the coaches questions from time to time, mostly about biking and bricks because that stuff is pretty new to me. They always got back to me within 24 hours (except weekends) and I thought they were pretty helpful. My gold membership is running out in a week or two, and I think I will switch back to bronze only, but not because I'm not happy with gold or anything like that... it's just expensive and I don't have any more big tris planned for later in the season

I signed up for the silver membership for the access to the plans.  I was good about following it during the winter and spring, but now I'm using another plan for marathon training and incorporating swim / bike workouts on my own.

I think I'll keep the silver membership when it renews in the fall because I really enjoyed the winter maintenance plan from BT and will most likely use it again to keep my fitness up during the crappy winter months.

I know there are other advantages to the silver membership besides the training plans, but I don't use the other features.

Me too.  I think the silver plan has better options for plans, expecially if you want to go long like HIM or IM.

I know the gold offers online support of the plans, but I think I can figure them out or ask enough questions on the general forum to get by.  Other than that, I don't seem how much more gold has to offer over silver.

I'm not sure If I will renew the membership or not when the fall comes.  I may print out the plans that I use (or plan to use) and have some hard copies as a resourse.

I was telling the wife the same thing.  I LOVE the TDF, and this time of year makes me happy.  Plus with the Olympics, it's all that much better.  I used to be a track and field guy in HS, so that, and the swimming are really fun to watch.
