ChrisM - 2010-02-10 1:26 PM stalker and I think the newbie was saying get at the smack talk, as she was too new to do so (think there should have been an apostrophe in there, as in it's not a newbie's place to smack talk... or not) ... not that smack talk was bad. This is a fun thread to lurk

He's not a stalker.  DC said he is a crazy uncle.

I thought that was Jorge....

Jorge, DC what's the difference I am gong to beat them both.

........was that smack

I'm gonna swipe that 'old man card' from you when I pass you around mile 10 of the run and I'll hand it back to you at the finish line.

OH NO HE DIDN'T!

Dude, I'll give it to you right after breakfast.  You can give it back to me at the finish line were I’ll be waiting.  You’ll need to hurry, wait never mind, I’ll probable be back from cleaning up then.

DC you’re really safe, my focus is on finishing and the M45-49.  I am going to research the M45-49 fastie’s so I can keep tabs on them.  I wish there was some way to know who is ahead of you in the AG.

Oh OK!  But Mike is going to tough on the bike.

I wish some others would come out and play.  Jorge I think is broke, Marvarnett I am not sure what he’s deal is, rscheung is a sleeper but I’ve raced him so we will see what his long game is and then there is Alaina who is going to KICK all our butts.

You might not have to worry about me now.  I shredded my derailleur hanger on my P2C while I was on the trainer last night.  And no, it is not a replaceable hanger.  Sheered the carbon piece in half.  I think I have an expensive single speed now.

James, my long game is better than my short.  I'm not one for excuses but I did have a 2 month old last time we raced...I was a bit out of shape.   Are you running in the Chambersburg half marathon?  If you are...I'll see you there for a rematch.

WOW!  That is really bad news.  Do you have a back up bike, even a road bike?  What size frame do you ride?

Yep I am running Chambersburg half marathon.  You’re on for a race. Smile  No excuses needed I know you’re a solid athlete.

Yeah, I have an old Cannondale R600 road bike.  It would actually be a decent bike with a few upgrades.  I ride a 56cm TT bike and 58 road bike.  I'm 6'3". Let's hear it for the torso impaired. Still hoping to come up with a way to replace the frame relatively cheaply.  We'll see......

See you in March.

it can't be replace by Cervelo? no warranty with LBS? what about a crash replacement deal (usually at cost)? what size of bike do you use? I am sure we can help you find a way to race, maybe a cheaper replacement, race on a loaner, etc. Let me know, I'll help anyway I can...

I just got a email from Cervelo. They say that repairing this is NOT a good option.  They do offer a crash replacement for a new frame (at a decent cost).  I'll need a new derailleur as well.  I'm just not sure how much money I want to spend at this point.  I guess another option would be to try to find a used P2 on ebay or the classified ads for a decent price. I have an old road bike so I'll ride that until I figure out what I want to do.

I really appreciate the offer to help out. I'll let you know how things go. Look forward to racing you at IMLP.

FYI I crashed and totalled my P2C frame last April and replaced it with a used P2SL frame... most of my P2C components survived the crash and went over to the P2SL without incident.  It was a $500 solution and to be honest I can't really tell the difference.

I was disappointed to lose her, especially since I never raced her once... but for a long time lots of people were very successful on that crazy material known as aluminum.

My guess is Jorge is secretly training like a madman, somewhere around 16+ hours a week, and he's logging it on a private Training Peaks forum.  This is all smoke and mirrors for his Kona competition.

Where you at Cusetri?

PennState - 2010-02-12 7:13 PM OK you 'smack-talking' LPers. I'm Back! I plan on a great race in 2010! I seriously think James (Tasr) is poised for a superb result this year. I would be proud to finish 30 min after him. Seriously!

No one wants to smack talk you Fred, b/c they know you can back it up.  Laughing

I bet will be at the line together as DC blazes past.

It's my first Ironman, so truth be told, as long as I cross that line sub 17 -  I will be an IRONMAN and a happy camper.   But finishing in the daylight will also be a nice bonus

Monty - 2010-02-13 5:36 PM Man I'd forgotten how tiring training for this race gets....and that is only after an 11 hour week.

Awesome LP Race Report.

Which reminds me of a very important question I want to ask:

LP QUESTION: What are some tips any experience cyclists can offer about the Keene descent, and downhill cycling in general?  I'm thinking: never just use the front brake   Apply more pressure to the back brake. Or perhaps practice descents and go faster as you get more experience and feel more comfortable?

First bike maintenance!

1. Breaks are working properly

2. The headset is properly adjusted.

3. Hubs and spokes are not loose.

4. Frame, fork and steering are properly aligned.

Check with the LBS for this maintenance unless you know what you are doing.

Drive or ride the decent before you race to see were the holes and bad parts are.

Stay relaxed, know your limits and pick your line.  Look well ahead and not just down in front.  Most likely there will be other descending around you so stay to the right as much as possible unless passing.  The right shoulder was a bit rough and had loose gravel and holes.  There were some holes in the main road at points.

I was on and off the bull horns depending on the road section so I could feather the breaks if needed.  I also went down the middle of the road more or less without crossing the yellow line.  In both of my descents there was not a lot of people.  I do consider myself an experience, confident but cautious cyclist.

I don’t want to scar people but its serious descending at 40-50mph, Know your limits.
Practice descending is great.  I really recommend doing this way before the race and not the week before.
