So, who is braving the elements? Details people! And time for some deep thoughts, what one thing are you going to differently in '12? Could be tri related, but maybe not. Think! No racing for me this week. One thing I'm going to do differently in '12 = Talk more. Talk more to my family, talk more to my employees, talk more in this group. I tend to be way too shy. I think if I opened up alittle more it would help my relationships and my business. I also want learn how to maintain my bike better. I just ordered a new cassette for my bike. I hear it's not too hard to change a cassette but I have no clue. I order a 11-28 to go with my compact cranks because there are alot more mountains here in Utah than there were in Texas. Do y'all have any suggestions on a good bike maintance repair book? Thanks for the computrainer alert help. I have my alerts all set up. Tiana Edited by tritiny 2012-01-18 4:12 PM |

You are going to need a cassette removal tool. I can't think of the name right now (help me Tony) and there are different types based on the brand and model. Make sure you get the one that fits your cassette. It fits in the grooves around the inner part of the cassette. You use a wrench to grasp it and turn it to get the unit off the wheel. Doug |

The only racing I'll be doing is to pool when we hit Mexico on Saturday! The one thing I will be doing differently is not giving up long weekends in Minocqua to train (or training long when there is something better to do up north). We're structuring my training to get the long stuff (especially rides) done mid week so the weekend is left for the man and friends. If BT had a "like" button, I'd be pressing it! Love it when I hear people keeping all of this in perspective and finding creative ways to get the training in and spend time with the people who make it all possible |

Make sure you get the one that fits your cassette. It fits in the grooves around the inner part of the cassette. You use a wrench to grasp it and turn it to get the unit off the wheel. Doug You need a chain whip which will hold the cassette in place and a cassette puller which is just what Doug described. It will be what you use to actually loosen the cassette. It is really easy to do and you pretty much can't do it wrong. Zinn and the Art of Road bike maintenance seems to be the most popular book going these days. He explains procedures for multiple brands as Shimano setup will be different from Campy and SRAM. Also if you are really interested I would recommend to anyone the Park Tools Course, the freebie ones teach you the real basic stuff but the the ones that Park Tools run at various bike shops will pretty much teach you how to do almost everything on your bike you need to do, will save you a ton of $$ in the long run. Here is a link to the Park Tool website page which has a picture of a bike, just click on the area you want to work on and it gives you instructions and link to the tools you need to have to do it. You don't have to buy the park tool ones, pedro's and whatever brand they sell at performance (I think it's Bike Doctor) work just as well for most things. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help

No races. Deep thoughts? I figure the one thing I should do differently in '12 in order to enable increasing my training volume is cut back on my beer/wine/sake intake. I know that should result in more efficient sleep which means better overall recovery. But, knowing that I should do it and actually doing it are two different things. Anyway, I figure throwing it out there might help push me into actually starting. On the other hand, I would love to be able to have one (just one would be fine) of those Chrissie size beers each and every day for the next year. |
