The last 48 hours I have lost almost 5 pounds thanks to a wicked stomach flu that ran through my family this week. Between that and work my training really suffered this past week. I decided to stick close to home this afternoon and use the elliptical instead of going to the gym. Next week looks good for training, No shifts for my wife and the kids time commitments are minimal, Back at it....

Not fair that I have to wait 6 weeks longer than you guys for my first.  I probably need the extra time, but I want to get this thing over with!  Gonna be a looong 20 weeks for me.

So scared to death is a normal feeling? Thank goodness...but I hope it goes away soon. Looking at my training plan, there may not be much time to be scared over the next 14 weeks.

I think near everyone is in the same boat as me from what I see in everyones logs, but January is still a long ways from being done and my numbers are already way better then Dec/Nov.  I had vacation in Nov/Dec. that involved a whole lot of jet lag which really messed up some of my training but I don't know about the rest of you but I am pretty stoked to see those numbers going up and it's a great motivator.  And my "season" doesn't even start until Feb according to my plan

OK, so my run numbers are not there but my run tends to always be consistant.  You can do that anywhere, any time, so I know those numbers will be higher at the end of the month.

Keep up the good work everyone.

X2. I know some of you have heard me say this but there are 2 things needed to get faster... stress on your body and recovery, to much or to little of either and you will not reach your optimal potential.

golfpro - 2010-01-16 2:59 PM I rode this morning with six others riders in the "B" ride from the local bike riders club. I wanted to do the A but I was pressed for time and this particular ride started only three miles from the house which allowed me ride over there and not use the car.We had a total of 8 riders and only a few us helped on the pulling which it did not bother me at all. There was this one guy in the group which his legs were "huge". I took a quick look at his bike and said to myself, this is a "no joke, serious rider". We were going for a 30 mile bike ride and our area usually has a lot of hills. As I rode next to him, I told him, "I feel like I am cheating riding next to you". The guy was riding a SINGLE speed bike. He told me what the numbers were on both his front ring and back cog but I can't remember what he said, all I can say is that the back cog was "SMALL". He could cruise at a comfy level at 17 to 17.5mph - anything above 18 he started to spin out. After chatting with him I learned he is a serious mt climber- and what he used today is what he uses on a regular basis for climbing, which I found to be INSANE. I probed and he asked what would he suggest for mt climbing improvement. His reply was more or less along the lines of what I have read and heard from other bikers_1. get out and find those hills (duh!)2. Suffer & recover, suffer and recover... period!3. practice, practice, practice ...4. keep suffering & recoveringLater

OK this is the week I have been partialy dreading. I have a trade show I have to be at in Orlando from Friday through Thursday. Since I have some family in FL, Fort Myers I am heading out tomorrow to spend some time with them. So no bike for that whole time and I am not liking that. I will get to focus on running and swimming though. My hotel in Orlando in next door to a YMCA aquatic center. I will be driving past Tampa so Nichole if you hear the alarms going off dont worry I am just passing through. So I will also be limited posting until I get back.

Hello, my name is Kelli and I'm the newest member of the QR mafia   In an unexpected turn of events I got a tri bike this weekend.  I went back and forth for quite a while about getting a tri bike, but ultimately decided to wait until next year.  Found out at the end of last week a woman I know (who also happens to be the same height as me) bought a new tri bike over the summer and was looking to sell her old tri bike for a really good price.  It's a Quintana Roo Ti-Phoon, titanium frame, new wheels, and has been really well maintained.  After a few adjustments, it's a good fit.  Rode for a while Saturday and yesterday and felt really good on it.  It was a great deal and too good to pass up.  So plan will probably be to ride it for a year (2 max), get comfortable with a tri bike, then sell this and upgrade   YAY new bike toys!!

Happy Monday everyone! Good to hear that all those who raced yesterday had a great time! I had planned on a run/walk today but not so sure that's gonna happen anymore. We don't have class today so 6 of us decided to go out for lunch. My boyfriend and I rode with our friend John whose 21st birthday is tomorrow. We got about 5 minutes from the apartment and John looked down to pick up a cup and a car in the lane beside us got in front of the driver in front of us. He kind of cut her off I guess because she slammed on her brakes. All I could do was scream JOHN right before we hit her. This was right after we had been stopped at a red light so thankfully we weren't going too fast (around 25-30mph). Still the impact was incredible. I couldn't believe how hard his car hit hers at just 25mph. It scared me to death. Thankfully none of us are seriously hurt, just sore from the seat belts. The airbags didn't deploy. Luckily there was a cop right where the wreck happened so he came and took care of everything right away. He was nice enough not to give John a ticket since his birthday is tomorrow. I felt so bad for him, he just got his car fixed from being rear ended over thanksgiving break and now his car is in even worse shape than the wreck he got in a over thanksgiving break. Right now, I'm sore and my chest hurts a little. I think that's where I took the majority of the impact. So needless to say I'm taking it easy for the rest of the day. I may get on the treadmill and walk for a bit but I haven't decided yet. I'm just happy it wasn't any worse.
