Hope you're on the upswing, Fred!

Short run on tap for tonight, per plan. Tomorrow, long bike + swim.

One issue I'm finding is that Masters is giving me too many things to work on and so I need to start prioritizing. Otherwise, I'm getting too confused and doing nothing well. My glide is too short, my recovery hand is not where it's supposed to be, my head is too low, my hips don't snap, and apparently (a non-priority thing) my right hand does funky things when it comes out of the water, causing my coach to laugh.

I'm assuming the long glide is the first place to start, along with the recovery hand? Thoughts?

I would suggest you ask your coach what are the two priorities for you to work on.  It's pretty hard to focus on more than two things at a time.  And your coach will be able to see which of those things are holding you back the most.  Once you've started getting those integrated you can start adding other stuff.

The worst thing I found when I started changing loads of things in my technique was that it felt "wrong" for ages.  But it was worth the effort.  Two years later and I'm still seeing significant gains.

Fred D - 2013-03-21 1:26 PM Finally got up early enough to get in a nice am swim. Feels much better to do this. Combination of illness and the time change messed me up quite a bit, but hopefully I'm on a road to improvement.

Hope you continue to improve.

Finally made it to the pool this morning after work. I'm having a hard time doing anything on my work days. Busy 12 hour shifts plus 45 min commute each way was enough for me this week and I ended up just coming home to the couch for an hour then going to bed. I used to run right after work but my running partner moved away. I need to find someone else to run with after work, maybe I'll approach the wellness comittee about organizing some run groups for us shift workers

Track session tonight followed by night shift.  I've started icing my knees at work because sitting in a car all night after a hard training session is doing horrible things to my knees...

I'm also wondering what this "spring" thing is that we keep hearing about.  We had snow Sunday night and it's been sleet/hail/snow for the last few days.  Seems to have settled on rain today (fortunately - the track isn't great when it's slippery), but we have more snow forecast at the end of the week and into the weekend, which is messing up my cycling plans for my last weekend off for a month :-(  I'm really hoping I don't have to do another long turbo session - they're soul destroying.

Weather sucks here as well, but I don't care as I will just ride this weekend regardless.... Mind over body?

Still waiting for Spring here, too. I will run in any weather, and really enjoy when it's single digits, and even below zero one time this year, but somehow I'd rather not ride when it gets down into the 30's. I tried something different my last couple of trainer rides. Instead of music or TV I watched webinars. I found the rides more enjoyable, plus I got in a couple of hours of CE. I'll do my best to get out this weekend because I really need more time in the saddle.

In general I try not to let the weather get in the way of my training, but I'm rather more cautious on the bike, so usually take the mountain bike out when it's icy. I'd hoped to have a nice long ride out on the roadie with some friends as my weekend opportunities are limited at best (we've already had a weekend off cancelled for may!). There are a lot less volunteers to join us on the mtb rides.

I'm thinking about making this weekend a proper mountain bike session as it will be more fun and the weather is less important. I'll make a last minute decision when I see what it actually does. At the moment it's clear but we have a severe weather warning with up to 20-40cm of snow forecast.

Todays weigh in 145.6 a half pound loss this week.  Kind of surprised actually....

Scale did nothing for me this week. Up in the middle of the week, back down to the same today. Shouldn't be surprised, between the race last weekend and being not-so-careful this week, I should be happy to hold steady.

Already got a trainer ride in this morning (crashed the trainer this morning - must not have had it set just right...it was an hour into the ride before I crashed and it didn't feel weird during the ride up until then).

Planning a little swim this afternoon after the pool opens back up - our county mandates water safety for all 5th graders in public school so every Friday morning/early afternoon in the spring the pool is closed so each elementary school can trek through to the various Ys.

I'm off to San Fran for a long weekend, with a quick stop in Oakland for my marathon.  Really looking forward to being back in some warmer weather once again and hope to be able to achieve all goals!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm down another 2 pounds this week continuing my modified paleo diet not to mention I went without vino this week =)  I'm also planning to do more running as I've been focusing more on my swim and bike base building this year. It seems like running helps me drop the pounds far more then biking and swimming esp when I do my longer runs.

Rest day today. Long ride planned for tomorrow...riding the hills of Mordor for you LOTR fans =).... then long run on Sunday...and will probably squeeze in a family day trip in between..

Has anyone done the Ragnar Relays (http://www.ragnarrelay.com/) ?  My first time participating and had our first team meeting last night...basically teams of 12 runners cover a 200mile course straight..hundreds to teams running from Huntington Beach to San Diego...many teams dressing up in  a theme and decorating their vans as well...each runner does 3 separate legs totally 12 to 22 miles with most teams finishing somewhere between 30-36 hours I believe...kind of like running after an all nighter =)....crazy thing is I heard there are usually 1-2 ultra runners who do the whole distance by themselves...

Have a great weekend !  Will update the weight loss chart later.

Sounds like a fun weekend. You are well prepared so get out there and grab those goals. Good luck and have fun!

Rich, I've never done a Ragnar relay, but they definitely sound like interesting events.

I am down another 2 pounds to 196, and feeling good.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

huh, I actually dropped 1 pound this week.  Didn't see that coming!  Anyway, 189.5 today, down 8.5 so far on the month.  I'm sucking at getting it done this week, eating not so good, and missed another run yesterday.  This weekend isn't looking good either, I've got to drive 8 hours tonight (not leaving till 9pm Surprised , then going to a memorial service (my wife's grandfather, he lived to 104!) and coming right back home on Sunday.  I'll be lucky to sleep, let alone work out.

I love this mentor group, it was exactly what I needed as I was trying to get re-energized about tri's, and working out in general.  Despite the wonky week, I'm actually feeling real confident long term about my ability to get back to where I want to be.

I have truly enjoyed and benefited from this mentor group.  The focus on consistency has been what I have needed and will continue to be my focus.
