Boston sounds like it is becoming a very scary place to be right now.  Please be safe Brie, Salty and anyone else in the area.

And they've shut down cell service? Wow. Families must be so worried. Must be tons of people trying to find landlines and computers for check in with loved ones.

I had people think of me when they heard, and I had a friend text me to see if I was there.  Anyone else?  Under another set of circumstances could have been me.

I just woke up and heard this. I am totally dumbfounded by it. I really don't understand the things that we do to each other as humans.

Salty we can't wait for a race report. Yes the day had a tragic end but be proud and enjoy your achievement. You rock star!

I've been getting that message from friends/family too. This hurts at so many levels.

I agree. This is a tragic day we will mourn for a long time, but the people running also had great accomplishments! It'll be interesting to see if/how the people on BT will handle their RR's.

I was just thinking along those lines Salty. All those people for who this will be the only time they ever run Boston and it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. And all those people who trained so hard and got so close to finishing only to be told that they can't cross the line because some stupid person thought they had a point to prove about something.

What makes me feels the sickest is that they are probably sitting somewhere watching the news reports and getting a kick out of what they "achieved" today.

Yeah, I've gotten hundreds of emails texts and Facebook messages. Service has been in and out. I'm staying pretty close to the finish. Keep hearing sirens and get a sinking feeling.Drinking beer to stay warm....

No - no one I know thinks I was (or could have been) running the Boston Marathon.

One of the things I found amazing about today was the outpouring from people. I got a call from my wife this afternoon asking if you were OK the moment that she saw something going on. Both of my daughters called to see if "Dad's runner friends" were OK.  My sister texted to see if anyone I knew was affected, and she is at a conference in Vegas.  Watching on TV, I see regular folks in regular clothes helping one another, helping complete strangers.  I do not hide from the reality of the world we live in, but I choose to see the outpouring and kindness in the face of challenges. It is part of what gives me hope.

I am so glad you are physically OK.  I pray that all of you and yours get home soon and safely.

Is anyone else a little creeped out by "They shut down cell service?"

I didn't know they could just blanket an area and shut down the cell service in that area only... Pretty Powerful that "they" can do that.

On a light note, I ran the last mile faster than I probably would have because the woman in front of my crapped her pants. I saw it first hand.

oh my goodness that is just revolting. I just don't understand that. Even if I was going to win I don't think that's could do that. She must have had some sort of amazing bet on finishing in under 3:15

I am so looking forward to reading your race report. And I agree with what Chris said despite what has happened you so totally deserve to be proud of what you achieved today, we all are.

Chris is also right about how wonderful it is to see people so willing to help other despite it putting themselves in danger. Things like this really do showcase the best of people - thanks for shifting my focus Chris.

I figured it had something to do with that..

Just another one of those things that "they" can do.  For the right reasons - it's a good thing... for the wrong reasons - could be a very powerful weapon.

I'm not a conspiracy theorists.. just commenting on the potential power of that ability.  Makes you wonder what else "they" can do.
