Hello, my name is Kelli and I'm the newest member of the QR mafia   In an unexpected turn of events I got a tri bike this weekend.  I went back and forth for quite a while about getting a tri bike, but ultimately decided to wait until next year.  Found out at the end of last week a woman I know (who also happens to be the same height as me) bought a new tri bike over the summer and was looking to sell her old tri bike for a really good price.  It's a Quintana Roo Ti-Phoon, titanium frame, new wheels, and has been really well maintained.  After a few adjustments, it's a good fit.  Rode for a while Saturday and yesterday and felt really good on it.  It was a great deal and too good to pass up.  So plan will probably be to ride it for a year (2 max), get comfortable with a tri bike, then sell this and upgrade   YAY new bike toys!!

Emmanem - 2010-01-18 3:18 PM Happy Monday everyone! Good to hear that all those who raced yesterday had a great time! I had planned on a run/walk today but not so sure that's gonna happen anymore. We don't have class today so 6 of us decided to go out for lunch. My boyfriend and I rode with our friend John whose 21st birthday is tomorrow. We got about 5 minutes from the apartment and John looked down to pick up a cup and a car in the lane beside us got in front of the driver in front of us. He kind of cut her off I guess because she slammed on her brakes. All I could do was scream JOHN right before we hit her. This was right after we had been stopped at a red light so thankfully we weren't going too fast (around 25-30mph). Still the impact was incredible. I couldn't believe how hard his car hit hers at just 25mph. It scared me to death. Thankfully none of us are seriously hurt, just sore from the seat belts. The airbags didn't deploy. Luckily there was a cop right where the wreck happened so he came and took care of everything right away. He was nice enough not to give John a ticket since his birthday is tomorrow. I felt so bad for him, he just got his car fixed from being rear ended over thanksgiving break and now his car is in even worse shape than the wreck he got in a over thanksgiving break. Right now, I'm sore and my chest hurts a little. I think that's where I took the majority of the impact. So needless to say I'm taking it easy for the rest of the day. I may get on the treadmill and walk for a bit but I haven't decided yet. I'm just happy it wasn't any worse.

Thanks to Stan the man, Tif and I will soon have a trainer.  He gave us a good deal on a lightly used one and it should be coming our way soon.  Now I guess I will not be able to say the weather was bad and I could not get my ride in.Wink

X2 You should take it easy over the next couple of days.. Sometimes you don't feel the real impact on your body until day 2 or 3..

Thanks everyone! I've decided to rest today, been getting more sore all day. I'm hoping I won't feel too bad tomorrow... I have a full day of classes and I've gotten to the point where I really like working out (never thought that would happen) so I dont want to have to take too many days off.

Hope everyone has had a good start to their week!

Question for everyone...

Someone I know who recently did a half marathon who may or may not be in this group had plenty of cardio fitness during the race but legs were hurting the last few miles.  To get faster work needs to be done on limiter, leg strength. I have a few thoughts of things to do besides weights but would like to hear what others think...

Depends on the person I would think. The situation explains my race perfectly. Cadio wise I was fine but my form and legs started to break down at around mile 11 (due to under training). I'm assuming the person you are referring to had properly trained so I wouldn't think he/she was under trained.

From some one who knows little about training, to build leg strength with out using weights I would;

-Increase the intensity of the work outs and decrease the duration (more speed work).
-Run hills more often (good luck finding them in Houston)
-Consume more protein to help the muscles recover faster
-If the person is overweight (like me) reduce body weight.

Now Evondo, tell me where I am totally off base...........

Dude, these 13 hour workdays have to go.

Yay for all the new bikes!  I can't wait to see 'em.

I'm trying to keep my head above water over here (metaphorically, I'm not swimming while typing, don't worry) with work, and it's irritating me how much I'm sacrificing with training for this job right now.  My half is getting dangerously close and I'm decidedly undertrained...

Luckily, there is an end in sight to the basics of the madness, but it's not until Feb.

Bah, humbug.

Somebody give me a happy pill please.

Which trade show? I thought I was going to be in Orlando next week through Friday- but my plans are falling apart.
Newtons1st - 2010-01-17 11:02 AMOK this is the week I have been partialy dreading. I have a trade show I have to be at in Orlando from Friday through Thursday. Since I have some family in FL, Fort Myers I am heading out tomorrow to spend some time with them. So no bike for that whole time and I am not liking that. I will get to focus on running and swimming though. My hotel in Orlando in next door to a YMCA aquatic center. I will be driving past Tampa so Nichole if you hear the alarms going off dont worry I am just passing through. So I will also be limited posting until I get back.

My thoughts are hills and intervals.  Taxing the leg muscles to go faster then they are use to going or working harder then they usually do in a regular maintain speed workout.
