I agree.  That was pretty cool to see two brothers finishing together like that on the toughest day of the tour so far.

I think Armstrong impressed me more today and yesterday than he has in all of his TdF victories.  He was the consumate team player today.  First he stayed back and marshalled Frank Schleck and then he stayed back and marshalled Bradley Wiggens when he could have clearly stayed with the first group if he wanted to and then did a heck of a chase to catch Kloden after Wiggins finally broke.

I was a bit disappointed the Contador did not give LA a few kudos for his teamwork.

I am consistently disappointed with Contador.  If he is the new face of cycling then I am not sure that I can cotton to that ...

The Schleck brothers are amazing climbers.  What about Thor's cheeky move to grab the sprint points? Thought that was just as daring ...

I'm not a Contador fan either but I will say I was glad that he practiced a little bit of self control by not taking the stage today after he let the Schleck brothers pull his a$$ to the top.

I would not be terribly disappointed if AC bonked on Ventoux. It will suck next year for him when he is the one being held in check by Lance's new team and he has no talent surrounding him.

I wholeheartedly agree about Contador.  I liked him until watching him in this tour.  Talk about a completely selfish s.o.b...  I thought the move on Leipheimer and Armstrong was a bit below the belt, but I really thought he was selfish today even though he kept looking back for Kloden after he dropped him.  There was not need for that move, particularly when Johan told him he did not need to do it.  Johan was obviously pissed about it.  Johan, Lance, Leipheimer and just about everone except probably the French organzier that hate Armstrong thought it was a selfish move too.

I wish Contador had had a flat after he dropped Kloden and when Kloden came by he would have said " if you were not such a jerk, I would give you my bike to finish the race with."  BTW, I have also been impressed with Kloden's unselfish work on this tour.

I have to admit Hushovd went up a notch in my books today.  That was a gutsy ride.

What I would love to see happen:Lance makes up time on the ITT and moves into second behind AC leaving a minute on the table. Then he crushes Mt. Ventoux for the win.

Wow, Contador looks strong!  Looks like a solid 1st, unless he tired himself out for Ventoux

Lance looks pretty darn good for 38 too!  Lance said he wanted Ventoux, so we shall see if he can take second overall!

Saxo-bank will send Frank out on an attack tomorrow, or both Schlecks, to see if they can tire the GC guys, they almost have to if Andy wants first.

Kloden will challenge for 3rd, but only if Lance can get second, unless Lance is tired.

Wiggins has no chance, today was his day to try

Your thoughts?

I see Kloden and Lance (and even Contador if he wants to be a team player) working together on Ventoux to establish 2nd and 3rd.  It is going to be interesting to see them counter with the Schlecks trying to shake things up. I cant wait to see this one!

Frank will throw caution to the wind early in order to string out the field to see if he can wear down Armstrong and Kloden.  Given the strength Contador has shown in the mountains and then in todays ITT I think they have all but ceded first place and are instead racing for the second spot on the podium (as well as the White Jersey).

Going to be interesting to see if Lance can hang on.  Remember that Kloden beat him in today's ITT and rode with the elite group in the mountains yesterday.  Lance, caught off guard when trying to force someone else to do the pace making yesterday, was not able to reacti in time to catch Franks wheel.  True that he has acceleration available later in the climb to help dwindle the time gap ... but not enough to bridge the groups.

All of that said, then, is it age or lack of competitive cycling that is hampering Armstrong's dominance?  Time will tell as RadioShack announced that they will be the new title sponsor of Armstrong's team next year ... yes, RadioShack.

Further, Armstrong with compete for Team RadioShack "...as a cyclist, runner and triathlete." (see: www.velonews.com)

How about dem apples?

I think Lance finally showed his age today and said as much in his Twitter feed after the ITT. He wrote that he paid for the hard efforts of the last two days and ran out of gas at the end of the TT.

I think tomorrow is going to be a crazy day out on the course, with the Cat 2 climb right before the end of the stage expect attacks to come from all over....heck the team managers might attack with their cars just for good measure. The only way that Lance moves into second overall is if Andy Schleck cracks on Ventoux, I honestly don't think that Lance can out climb him anymore. Hopefully Astana will set it up to where Alberto works for Lance to get the stage win on Ventoux since he has the overall all but sewn up.

I seriously doubt that selfish Contador would work for Lance.  After watching the tour everyday live on my computer (while I'm "working") it has become very obvious that Contador only works for himself.  I have it on right now and can't wait to see how it plays out.

^^^^ What Lisa said ... I would be (pleasantly) surprised to find Contador working for an Astana team member. Part of me thinks that attacking Kloden and Lance in the prvious stages were intentional efforts to distance himself from his greatest rivals: his own teammates.  Lance, on the other hand, has sacrificed time more than once (and potentially a place on the podium) to be the consumate teammate.

Lance needs to be vigilent today and not caught flat footed like he did when Frank Schleck took off in Stage 17.

No change for today.  Tomorrow is the day that Contador needs to work for Lance.  Contador has it all wrapped up so it's his chance to come out of this smelling like roses.  Third place and fith place right now are only seperated by 13 seconds.  Great tour this year!  And tomorrow should be an amazing stage!

 ...

I agree with this 100%.  I think Contador was more concerned with Armstrong and Leipheimer than the rest of the GC on that first attack.  He certainly did not care about Kloden when the Shlecks gained so much time.   As I said before, I have been really impressed with Armstrong's unselfishness on this tour.

Although the chances are from slim to none, I would love to see Contador bonk big time and not even be on the podium in Paris  even though he, Leipheimer, and Vandevelde were my favorites going into this thing.

God I hope that happens. I have become a BIG fan of Klodo this tour

It is going to be epic wathcing the best young riders (schlecks) and best old rider go at it tomorrow. I do think it will be every man for himself when it comes to Ventoux though, so realistically Lance needs to beat Frank and Wiggo, and possibly hope Andy is cooked from his earlier efforts.

Go Team Radio Shack?!?

The stage today was ... EPIC.  What a climb. Lance demonstrated that he had the depth in his legs to hang with the best in the world on what was the toughest ascent on the Tour. Alberto was freakishly strong and the Schlecks showed the strength of brotherly bonds.

Alberto redeemed himself somewhat by showing some teamwork - but not enough for others in the peloton to forget that he he attacked his team twice ... and cost a teammate a podium spot. (Kloden deserved better.)

x2 - could not have summed it up better myself.  I am going to be so depressed come Monday - I have followed this tour more than any others and am addicted to the competition and just in awe of the incredible sports ability of these guys.  As my son would say - BEAST!
