Master 1730 Straight outta Compton | Subject: RE: Chicago Marathon : Official Thread I know there are a few charity runners here... has everyone made their fundraising quota? I am surprised how hard it is to raise funds. Or maybe I just suck at fundraising. |

Coach said not enough miles logged in to do this without risk of injury... so I'll pull myself out at the 13.1 mark. I'm kind of sad for this but in the mean time, I'm glad I will be part of the experience. Next year, I'll be back again for sure
I didn't think there was a 13.1 option? Are you going to turn around, or have you come up with an alternate route that will bring you to the finish line?

QuincyF is having some people over to their place in Bucktown... you and the missus should grace us with your presence. "I am more than willing to open my patio (and the rest of my home) up for a meetup after the Marathon. If anyone wants to come, I know for sure Oriolepwr and his family will be coming. Love to meet the rest of you...lots of familiar names and faces (and legs...Miami I'm looking at you) on this thread. I live in Bucktown just about two blocks from the blue line stop at Damen and Milwaukee...so it's easy to get to from the race site. If everyone is hungry/thirsty, we can order pizza or just buy a bunch of bags of potato chips and go to town. If you have family/friends that are sick of marathon crap by then my 'hood is a nice place to walk (slowly) around and do some sightseeing/boutiqueing/restauranting after you stop by... So reply to this thread if you're going to come so I can get a head count and I'll PM everyone who is coming with my cell and address..."

Glad to hear you are coming, sorry to hear the family isn't. Hard to break that to Katherine. :0 Favorite spot on the patio is yours... Hope some other folks make it over to hang out...we always have fun post-race! Relaxing and telling war stories. Even if you decide to come last minute, that's totally fine 'cause we're just going to order pizza so it's not like I need a head count or anything! Q |

I will be cheering for you just past the halfway point on Adams and also at 16.5 (just before the aid station) on Jackson. I'll be on your left hand side both times and will hold a sign that says FREE BEER....@ 26.2 or something like that. Good luck! |

Member 132 | Subject: RE: Chicago Marathon : Official Thread I dropped off the planet. Glad to see everyone is doing well. After timberman and chicago the next week, I came down with a nasty flu bug that lasted for about three weeks. I have been trying to build back up. I will finish but probably not well. I may be interested in getting together but I will more than likely be pretty beat. We have a small condo across the stree from the start, so I will probably head there afterwards and sit in the pool for awhile. Regarding fundraising, I am running for Team Salute, it is a great organization that helps vets. To reach my goal, I emailed everyone at work and some family and easily made my goal. I also will be in Coral E so I will look for u gil. |

yeah only thing going right for me this Chicago marathon is the weather. Then again I tend to bite off more than I can chew. Its not my first Chicago and not my last. Just glad I can even go tot he start line. Last year I was so sick I could not even walk from a parking lot/train to the start line. |

Chicago, IL | Subject: RE: Chicago Marathon : Official Thread Only 4 days to go. Repeated end-of-season injuries have kept me from training through September, the way I would have liked. I'll be running in a white "Steelhead 70.3" cap, and a bright orange or yellow t-shirt (most likely orange) with "PAUL" across my chest and back. Feel free to slap my @ss as you gallop by me on the course. The prospect of a Sunday Funday in Wrigleyville (Monday vaca for Columbus Day) will hopefully propel me across the line in roughly 4 hours. Good luck everyone! LOVE THE WEATHER FORECAST!!!!! Edited by pmtaylor621 2012-10-03 2:46 PM |

This is a total newb question, but would it be stupid to run a marathon in long sleeves? No if it makes you comfortable, do it. However, my rule of thumb is one less layer than I think I will be comfortable in. Do you have any "throw away" clothes you can wear for the start and as long as it takes to warm up, and then just toss them? On old video of the 2009 race you can see thousands of shirts and pants being throw to the side just before the start. They collect it all and give it to the needy. You could also get a cheapo pair of long socks and cut holes in the toes and make some disposable arm warmers. Or bring arm warmers you like and tuck them in your race belt or waistband. But if you have a singlet you like and have trained in, I would wear that under something you can bear to part with, or with some arm warmers that you can take off if you get too warm. Q |
