Just for Sooners.

Go do some work on Satan's Buttcrack aka the Windhaven Hill. If you can manage working out on that, you can manage anything Longhorn throws at you.

Got my relay team signed up this week...look for Team Army Strong to podium in the coed relay--I'm an okay swimmer, our cyclists is solid, and a runner hopes to throw down a 1:20-1:25 half-mary!!

Just finished off the Couple Sprint Tri out at Decker Lake, was posting my Race Report and found the information on the changes for the course this year. Totally cool having the finish in the arena, will definately be better for the family and friends to watch the finish.

I volunteered for this race last year and loved working with the group you have put together Keith. Also, wanted to say thanks for standing out on the run course for the ENTIRE race at LoneStar. Nice to know that you actually do work on Race day and don't let Paul do everything.

Can't wait to be out there to help setup like I did last year. Since Lonestar was shortened this year, which was to be my first 70.3, I will finally get to complete the distance here at Longhorn. Yeah!!!!

Longhorn's hills are completely manageable. The hardest one was the last - and it's apparently gone. Sure, there are some hills which will slow you down and make your legs burn, but they ain't nothing like what's waiting for you twice on the run.

I hope it doesn't sell out in the next few days. Just got an MRI and if I have no major issues I'll be signing up. This will be a perfect start for my IM St George training over the winter.

The hills are minimal. There aren't any long climbs. Just some easy rollers. Easy stuff. I train in flat Dallas, TX and did fine on the hills a couple of years back. No big deal.

Keith is always very good about keeping people informed when it starts getting close to full, so stay tuned to BT and to the event website. That said, if the race is really important to you; just think how you're going to feel when you wake up one morning to a thread that says "Longhorn sold out"...   I've had that happen before (with different race), and sat around for the next month or so wondering what magical money tree I had been waiting for!

lisac957 - yes you do get more at some races than others... it also costs more in some areas to put on races than in others.... for example the more police you need the more it costs to put on the race - also venue fees... it all adds up rather quickly!

Just registered! This will be my second Longhorn. The hill at the end of the bike leg killed my run. I am not sad to see it gone.

Had some of the crew at the Arena yesterday, mapping things out. Gonna really be great.
We've also got the confirmation on the camping, right there.

There are RV sites for $45 a night, with full water and sewer hookups, and tent camping for $15 a night. You'll be able to use the arena locker rooms for showers....

You'll be right onsite, and be able to basically roll out of bed in the am!

We'll be posting the info on the www.ironmanlonghorn.com site shortly, on how to grab a spot

How is the lake level at Walter E. Long? I know a lot of the lakes in Austin area are *way* down this summer, but hadn't heard about this one specifically.

No issues with the lake, other than you could boil an egg in it right now

So you're saying it's wetsuit-legal?

Thought you might be optimistic about wetsuit legal in your post over on ST, Keith. While the lack of rain may not be having adverse effects on the lake level, it definitely lets the temp climb. And if I remember right, last year the temp barely got to legal because of a big drop over the last couple of days, wasn't it?

True that the race is later this year, but with this summer we're having, I think it might be close again.

Bring your wetsuit regardless. Last year, based on the first year's boil-fest, I didn't even bring mine. When the race went WS legal at the last minute, myself and many others swam "naked". While I'd trained in those conditions in Fort Worth, the extra buoyancy/confidence while in neoprene would have been nice. My wetsuit is coming to Austin this year.

Still waiting for Keith to tell us Lance will be racing, especially since LA just confirmed he wants to do Kona, other IMs, and several 1/2's.

Tongue-in-cheek for this year, but I actually expect it to happen next year or in 2011.

Hey Keith,

Can you post the link to the RV site info? I've been looking and can't seem to find it. We need to make sure we have a spot!

Thanks,

Lesley

I'm coming from Phoenix, AZ and this is my first HIM. I'm really looking forward to joining my San Antonio friends at the Longhorn! Questions:  What is the average temperature? (I'm used to HOT).  What was the temperature like last year?   Is it windy?
