coredump and I are in!!!!!!!!

I was planning to come down to Kansas to cheer for you all anyway, but figured I'd sign up and do the race. Just ran a half marathon last weekend, so the running is coming along. Had my first outdoor bike ride today... and I've been swimming most of the winter... While I won't set any speed records, I sure do think we will have fun! Laughing

We are planning to camp. We should probably get that together soon, huh?

See you all out there!

Looks like BT get together for sushi!

I got my KSwiss shoes yesterday. Actually, my husband called me at work asking "When did you order shoes???" I think I was in a little trouble 'til I told him they were FREE! They must not have 1/2 sizes though because I requested 10 1/2 and got 11s. They feel a little big, but we'll see.

Yaaaay! I need to reserve a campsite as well. Wonder if we can request to be near each other? That would be mighty fun.

I have no idea how that works... Hmmmmm. I don't have a moment to look it up online right now... but I will check it out when I get home...

And Ocky... let's have pre-race camping sushi! ((YUCK!))

This may be old news to some, but it looks like in addition to Chrissie and Pip Taylor, Chris Lieto and Andy Potts are headed to Kansas (among others).

In other news, if you haven't read your email, requests for campsite assignments are being taken. Any BTers with campsites wanna get a campsite group together? Let me know and I can submit a request for a group.

Oh good, I am glad Lieto is coming now ... I was hoping to get some competition on the bike Laughing  That is, I hope to be turning out of the park before he is  turning on his way back in.

as far as camping goes, is anyone else doing it old-school (aka, without a camper/RV)??

it looks like all the water and electricity hookup sites are gone, so my husband and i were considering doing tents...

I am tent camping. But then again, I am probably much younger, don't care as much about the accommodations, have all the necessary equipment to tent camp, and find it enjoyable to go back to the basics once in a while.

I am very excited about the race.   I have my nerves in check for right now and the training seems to be going well.  How is it going for everyone else?

I was pretty nervous- this is going to be my first racing experience since Redman last fall- where I ended up with a broken foot a week later.  I'm feeling great right now.  Running a 1/2 mary on Sunday here in Denver.  I think I'll be ready- my biggest concern right now is that we're going to have bad weather!

For those of us doing the 20 week plan we are over 1/2 way there!!!

I took advantage of the long 2.5hr ride this weekend and bike half of the course before biking the rest of the way to my parents house for Easter.  The roads are in great condition (I think I maybe saw 1 pothole).  The winds were pretty solid on Sunday around 16mph average with gusts to 25mph.  Considering that the first half of the ride is mostly south/southwest I was riding right into the wide or had some gnarly crosswinds to deal with.  Overall I felt good on the course.  There are a couple big hills but nothing too unmanageable.  I averaged 18.3mph on the course which I was happy with considering I have only been seriously training on the bike since December.

If anyone in the KC/Lawrence area wants to hit the course with me again before the race let me know.  I will probably try to ride it on all my long rides (2.5hrs+) before the race.  Just checking my training schedule it looks like it will be the weekend of week 3 for sure which is a 3 hour ride followed my a 20 minutes recovery run.

I hope everyone's training is going well!

MJ - I am also doing the 20 week plan and the training has been great so far....I skipped the long ride on Sunday due to family commitments with Easter but will make a few adjustments during recovery week this week.....glad to hear the road is in good shape....I went out yesterday up here in Iowa and it was like avoiding land mines the entire ride...not fun on a tri-bike!!!

Sounds like you had a good outing on the course, well done.

I was curious, if you or anyone else new what the roads looked liked around the lake. According to the website there is road construction occurring at Clinton Lake and I didn't know if that would have any affect on next week's organized training ride.

For the people coming in for the training weekend from out of town, where are you guys staying??  Camping or motel??  I looked at motel 6 and there normal rates are like $40 but next weekend they are $80...is that because of the marathon that weekend.

We will be coming in late, so I would rather not pinch a tent at midnight.

My training has been going great. This is my first race following a plan from Mark Allen Online. I will be going to Kansas to kick a$$ and chew bubble gum.

I am sad about the roads. I was hoping for the typical Texas chipseal roads.

Yep me for sure. I am traveling and racing solo at the moment!
Last year they had info on how many cars and tents you could put on each campsite - couldn't find that this year though so it might be worth asking, to save some monies. We won't all need our own individual camp site...

haha, you might be younger... I'm 23 though (24 by race day!). I'm just asking because I've only gone tent-camping once in my life and I wasn't quite sure if it would be the best way to prepare sleep/food/etc. -wise before this race...

I tent camped at this race last year. It was no biggie to me because I never sleep well before races anyway. I really enjoyed being literally ON-SITE when I rolled out of bed in the morning... no race day traffic, no parking headaches, no walking from some remote parking lot... just wake up and walk to transition! Plus it was so much cheaper than a hotel room.

We also drove into Lawrence for dinner the night before - it's no more than a 10 minute drive. Others in our group had an Italian restaurant in Lawrence deliver their dinner directly to the camp site, I thought that was pretty genius!
Otherwise, lots of people brought their own food and camp grills and such.

Bike course is clear of any construction.
