Master 2146 East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: Hugs - February Challenge D001 - 2010-02-01 8:16 PM Go Paul. So we will call today a wash on post counts...you need at a minimum 5 posts a day to make 200 by the end of the month......when we say chatty we mean it!!!pdbman - 2010-02-01 6:39 PM I really need to get myself going so I thought I would jump into this month's challenge to get myself going. This is my first challenge. I asked for a chatty group and it looks like this is definitely chatty. 5 pages and its the first day of the challenge! Hi Paul, Welcome to the challenge forum! AND this month's "Team Chatty." Your "secondary goal" this month is to get to 200 posts by Feb 28th. LOL My name is Paul. I'm married with one son that is graduating from high school this year. I am working toward my first tri and to get back into marathons. My love this month is running and I need to rebuild my base. My goal is to run two days a week at least 3 miles plus a long run of at least 5 miles each Saturday. Total running sessions 12, total miles = 45. ***Chatty toppage*** Edited by KOM 2010-02-01 10:04 PM |

My 6 year old has repeatedly told me she wants to run a race with me - but that may be March's challenge when it will be easier to be outside here in the midwest. I am a prosecutor by trade and I am beginning my training for a half marathon on May 1 (Quincy - it's the Illini Marathon in Champaign - are you in?) so I will be running. I have a plan, finally, just have to compute what the distance is to properly figure my goal. I will be adding ST in the form of weights and or P90 X to round it out. G'luck all. Duane, veeery tempting...I would do a race a weekend if I could get away with it...DH is probably working that weekend so I'd have to push the kids in the jogger...actually not a big deal to me but probably not allowed QWell there's a level of insanity dedication that I hadn't considered - 13.1 miles with a jogger.... I haven't done over 10 with them yet, but both my 5K and 10K PR's until this year were pushing DD in the jogger. I'm on my 4th...the first one literally fell apart, second one was a single and I have two kids, third was a nice double Kelty bought and resold on craigslist (for a profit, yay) and the fourth is a convertible jogger/bike trailer. If only it had pontoons, I could take them OWS with me... When are we doing our solidarity long run? I'll push the babies...it's kinda my thing. BTW, what is an as hort???? |

I am the real girl in the picture. Please, please, please tell me you can tell there's a girl and a guy in my avatar.... Actually, it's ok if you can't, my Husband takes great pride in his cross-dressing/racing abilities. Q LOL, I did look at the picture. And I saw the guy dressed in the Hooter's outfit. I figured that would be "Quincy." Whoops. Ah well, I had a 50% chance of guessing right. LOL Happens all the time...my parents were insane hippies. I mean, really, who names their girl Quincy??? Bozos... |

I'm not sure if I'll have time to ramp up my run volume that quickly, but it would certainly be the motivation I need to get my butt out on the street for some long runs. Decisions... Decisions... Do it... you know you want to... you know you need to.... C'mon - everyone's doing it.... And that is exactly how I got talked into my HIM last year. mav said that to me and I foolishly registered. Great experience but boy did I suffer. Going back this year for some redemption! OK. OK... I'll do it. Peer pressure is a b*tch, isn't it? I'm not sure if I can do the half Mary on 3/21... my wife reminded me that it's our daughter's birthday and I guess we're required to do some sort of party or something (who knew?). There is a 10 mile run the following weekend, so maybe I'll do that. Family always comes first. Do the 10 miler and have a great day with the daughter - you are making lifetime memories with her... More peer pressure?!?! Now you want me to spend time with my family?!?! I'm kidding of course. Family always first. Can't you tell from my race results that family always comes first? I put my goals in the spreadsheet last night. I think I may have been sandbagging a little in past challenges, so I decided to put some good stretch goals in. Got in my first 5 miles of running this morning and did some speed intervals. Actually set a PR for 5 miles, which is totally "unofficial" because it was on the treadmill. Off to the pool at lunch today. |

Master 2042 Albany, NY | Subject: RE: Hugs - February Challenge GoGoGo - 2010-02-01 3:35 PM rnihill - 2010-01-31 6:54 PMAnyway, my name is Rhoda, age 35, with 2 kids (3 and 5), and work full time. I therefore tend to train at odd hours! I've been doing sprints for a couple years and did my first Oly last year. I finished but the run was not pretty. Admittedly, I was not as prepared for the run as I should have been. I'm still trying to decide what races to do this year... do I stick with sprints which I truly enjoy? Or do I try to redeem myself in the Oly?... Either way, I have time to decide and and am just trying to maintain some sort of base through the winter. Afternoon, Rhoda, Good to see you again, R You too, Richard! |

I had just planned a short run for last night to see how my crampy calf was feeling. Got that done and it was ok, but then all night my foot was cramping! Ugh! This happens occasionally and I don't really know why, but for now I am just going to plod along. Also got 4 bonus miles on on the trainer so I could finish the epidode of 24. How did I get to the point that I'd rather fool around on the trainer rather than sit on my butt to watch tv? : ) |

Are you calling me an *anchor*??????????????? :O :O :O :O :) D001 - 2010-01-30 6:15 PM Hugs? I'm on Team Hugs? Yeah. I'm just not picturing me involved in a group hug kinda thing.... I think I know most of the team though. So most of you understand what I mean when I say I'm not really into the touch-feelie kinda thing. (Or maybe I am, but in a different way???? LOL) And for the few people who I *don't* know..... Well, my name is Dee, and I'm addicted to the Challenge forum. :) My goal is going to be 28 days of PF stretches. It's NOT that I love plantar fasciitis. But I'll love it when the PF is all gone. So I'm going to use this challenge in an attempt to stomp the PF into the ground. Hugs? It's just a name. Coin a new team name that incorporates "hug" if you'd like. If Yanti shows up this will definitely be her team ;) Anyway, I figured you could anchor the chatty team :) Judging by your swimming logs, this may not be too far off! ;) Ouch. :) Remember, SHE has the taser... Yeah, good thing she's there and I'm here. ;) If you're ever in the DC area... :) |

This happens occasionally and I don't really know why, but for now I am just going to plod along. For the cramps, there's a few things that might work: 1. More beans (including garbanzo beans - in hummus, yum), veggies and dairy in your diet (potassium, calcium and magnesium) 2. Or potassium, calcium or magnesium supplements 3. Stretch 4. Lots o' blankets over the legs at night. Keep them warm! Disclaimer: not a doctor, but I did stay at the Holiday Inn Express last night (j/k) |

My feet cramp up sometimes and it's usually because I had a heavy day of working out and didn't take in enough fluids. It's quite annoying, yet avoidable. Happy training! |

I am thinking a nice smoked turkey sandwich on wheat with lettuce, tomato and hot peppers. Maybe an apple or an orange too. New Year's resolution for daily lunch: The usual (company cafeteria salad bar): Romaine lettuce, spinach, grated parmesan cheese, chopped onions, sunflower seeds. I'll throw in the occasional chicken, garbanzo beans or cucumbers or a 100% juice drink. It's been working. Had a health assessment last week: body fat 8.5%, cholesterol dropped to 201. I try to snack on apples, bananas, carrots and nuts, with the occasional popcorn or tortilla chips. Not really doing all this to lose weight, but more to try and tame fatigue, allergies and sinus infections! |
