From Wisconsin, live about 15 miles frowm the IMWI bike course.

Did IMWI in 2009, was my first IM.

As for why IMMT. Was kind of an impulse decision. The location as a vacation destination was big. The thought of fresh pavement was attractive. The challenging course, the time of year. It just worked.

Anyway, i hope this fall is going well for everyone. I am struggling to get back into a groove after backing out of my September HIM. One of my only DNS - since i sprained my ankle pretty badly 10 days out from the race ... maybe someone can lend me some motivation?

Your motivation is that you ARE going to start this race, and it WILL be painful unless you train.  Go do it. :-)  Just get to the start line.  Backing out is not an option.

I don't know how much it inspires others, but one of my most inspirational quotes, appears on Ironman videos and in the pre-race dinner - "You WILL do this".  It's short, it's clear, it's simple.  All you have to do is keep that in mind.  You are going to do it.  From there, it's just making that as much of a pleasant experience as possible.

From NY
1st IM
Always wanted to do LP as my first but was going to be away during registration.
MT was a better option than IMNY. We are using it as a vacation also.

OK, next question for the group.... is this your first IM? If not, which IMs have you done before?

Also why did you all pick IMMT?

****

My answers:
1. Not first IM, will be my 5th.
2. LPx3, IMWIx1.
3. Picked this late (c.f.) after a bad race at the end of this season and wanted something to look forward to. Also I have family that lives in Toronto who will be able to make the race. Oh and I like hills lol.

Anyone else?

1) 2nd

2) LP, did it in July. Had a blast.

3) While I love LP and will do it again one day, was wanting to do a different venue to experience the 140.6 distance more. Mostly the whole experience of staying right there in town and literally rolling out of bed into the start area was the most appealing. The Poutine may or may not have swayed me for a post race meal!

If all goes well I'll be eating it within 30 minutes of finishing, hopefully right on the run course so I can taunt those still out there with its cheesy fatty goodness.

Mont Tremblant will be my first IM

I live in Quebec city, which is a 4 hours or so drive from MT

I picked this race because it was a local race and I didn't want to miss the first year of it!

I'm not a fan of the crazy big bricks.  The triathlons that I do during the year are good enough for me.  I do a lot of shorter bricks.  The Be Iron Fit book has a weekly 45/15 brick that I love to do.  Other than that, I might throw in a mile or two of running after a century ride, just to get to that point where the legs loosen up and settle in for a longer run.

You're going to find a lot of differences in this forum just like in the books.  Some people really just have to do that 80/20 mile brick.  Part of it is emotional.  If you need to believe that you can do it, then you may need it.  But if you trust in the plan, or have done a few, I don't think you need the crazy big bricks, and they kill the rest of your week's workouts.

Kalalau,  Thanks for the info!  I am reg. for IM Mont tremblant and it will be my first full IM.  It's not until August but I would like to have my plans all set for when I start training.  I personally feel like I would like to do at least 1 large brick workout for my own mental reasons.  Maybe an 80/15.  I do understand Its taxing on the body and I will need some recovery time after this but on the other hand, If I can do 80/15 well then that would certainly boost the confidence for race day.

There's definitely a huge emotional benefit to "confidence booster" workouts.  To get that feeling for the first time that you can actually do this; it's pretty amazing.  Just take it slow.

YOU WILL DO THIS :-).  You will finish, as long as you cross that start line.

If anyone is using a computrainer for the winter (I am) there is a fantastic new Erg Video (made and developed in Canada).

It is the IMMT course.

Here is a link.... I have riden a bit of it, but plan on more intervals right now. I would highly recommend this if you have a CT.

http://www.ergvideo.com/Default.aspx#/Store

Good to hear.  Mine just arrived on Wednesday and I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.  It was 40* this morning so time to dust off the CT.

Jeff, the biggest plus I see is the new erg video 3 software.

You can now adjust FTP and calibration on the fly which was a problem with the old software. I only rode the first 50' minute of the course but it looks like the hills are mostly in the 2nd half of the loop.

Good luck.

Thanks Fred,

That is excellent!  IF I hear ya right you can set your intervals (like ERG mode) on the new ERG Videos?

With the continued "delay" of the RM1 software it sounds like the new ERG Videos are going to replace the old crappy racermate software.  If this is the case then it is very cool - I've been pretty bummed about the new software not being released.

Hey guys! I am in coming from Caratunk, ME (~4-5hrs to MT), doing the 70.3 as well

1. This will be my 2nd IM

2. Did IMLP in 2011 - loved it, I will be back.

3. I picked this race because of the venue - I like rugged races with beautiful scenery, this certainly fits the bill.  That and it was an inaugural IM, fairly close to home...and I hear that there is tremendous community support for this race.  All of those things made me pick that for my second IM (before I did my first!)

For me: this will be my 3rd IM (LP 09 and 10)

I picked IMMT for few reasons -  2012 is my next crack at IM, the course looks challenging, great location for an extended vacation, and an inaugural Canadian IM - who could resist that?

My wife and I will be coming from the Toronto area, taking some time afterwards to explore a bit of Quebec on the way home - it should be a great experience.
