Regular 108 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Cheers for the advice and options everyone. (Please forgive me if I don't name all) Lisa and those who suggested foam roller- I do have one but it has been gathering dust as a rather unattractive ornament and i did not even think of using that. (I'm an "All the gear and No-idea" kinda guy)... :P I shall be trying to make sure i do a 'roll' at least once a day now. Akrenik: I did change my shoes from Brooks Ghost to Brooks Glycerin this year and i wondered about that, I'll maybe go back to my old ghosts and see how they feel. I had hoped they were of the same style but perhaps that is a contributing factor. Inner Athlete: I am unsure what the ATM machine is. I'm familiar with the Elliptical and was considering going on that but I am really interested in this ATM thang! Especially as you do seem to recommend it so strongly. TriBri: Indeed I may start treating myself to a somewhat regular massage, it cant hurt I imagine. Sorry you are down with the cold, hope you recover soon. And a huge THANKS for replying folks. |

Here's a pic of the AMT machine. I think they're still under patent and only Precor makes them. The one at my old gym had bright yellow accents. You can adjust the stride to mimic running. I haven't been injured in a couple years, but it's been my go-to in the past. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I second the AMT machines. Some of the newer ones have aqua blue toe guards, or the standard is yellow/orange. I've been able to mimic running through both IT Band and shin splint injuries on those things. I don't use my hands. |

For shin splits, ever try compression sleeves? |

For shin splits, ever try compression sleeves? Yes - they helped! Actually I have the "socks" and just today ordered a pair of "sleeves" so I can wear my favorite running socks. Also what helped was rest (boooo!), elevation (like at work) and running on a softer surface like grass. |

I just don't let myself get hungry rather than forcing myself to eat every 20 minutes. |

On the 30's I had a Clif Shot alos had a Quaker Oats Choc. Dipp bar on one of the 30's. With the Clif Shot I also drank water. For me it is about drinking enough at the 15's other than a small sip. |

I'm the kind of person where if I don't have that reminder, I can easily get to the point where my stomach is growling and then not feel like ingesting ANYTHING, which is a ripe opportunity for a bonk. Extreme Veteran 725 | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I am with Abbie on nutrition. I go by feel. I notice I tend to drink or eat something about every 30 minutes, but it is on feel and not on time. I have not have any issues with bonking during an ironman. Knock on wood that I continue this streak! It is important to know and listen to your body. Once you have experience with long training sessions and iron distances races, you will get a feel for what you need. |

Regular 108 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread She sounds like a keeper TriBri! Ive not trained the last 2 days but reasonably happy with my January efforts, picking it back up again tomorrow with a planned 2 hr ride (maybe 2:30 if weather is nice). I have just recently worked out how to use the alarm on my Garmin 305, mine is set for every 20 mins to remind me to take on board nutrition (using Infinit just now) and i drink aqua every 10 mins. Ive not developed the confidence to 'listen' to my body yet. I am wondering about trying to live off the course to reduce the logistics of requirements for the event but Im not sure. There doesnt seem to be that many calories in the ProGator stuff they supply so I imagine i would either need to drink a BUNCH of it or still suplement with gels or whatnot, and if doing so feel that that then defeats the purpose of 'living off the course'. Hope y'alls training is going as hoped? (thats me trying to sound Southern here in NC, with a Scottish acccent).. |

I eat Clif Shot Gels, maybe a Chocolate Chip Dipp Bar or Power Bar in small bites, of course water. I am going to use my Mango flavored Fizz tomorrow instead of G2. To see if I notice any difference in energy. I haven't tried Nunn yet. At some point I will begin to add in Endurolytes capsules. I sweat a lot. HIM I used about 2 or 3 an hour.Like you two I have a long ride (2hr. 15 min) tomorrow. Probably on the trainer and maybe not as hard as I usually push it.Have a great training session. |
