Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! I've got to catch up my training log, but I have been very good about getting my GOJO on. I am betting tomorrow's will end up being 30 minutes of turkey wrestling as I get it all brined and prepped for Christmas day cooking. ALSO...I have been good about signing up early for races so far--yup, actually saving some $$$ (first time for everything!) I have already registered for the Auburn tri (saved $60), Tough and Dirty (saved $30--its a cheap race already...), and then signed up for the Sandyhook Memorial Virtual 1/2 Marathon (its already low priced). The cool thing about the 1/2 is that a bunch of my mudrunning team members are going to run it with me--and I get to "design" our course! Its going to be a trail run at Folsom Lake--5k for those who are doing that distance, but then at the end of the 5k, we will keep going to make the full 13. Okay, enough jabbering from me. |

Sorry! mn_av8or - 2012-12-23 7:53 PM Also how many of us are new to this group and how many are returning to "the pod" I think that we are about 50-50. If I didn't miss anyone, that is! Salty, Chris, Jen, TJ, Ann-Marie, JoGo, Kate, Jo, Felicia, Janyne and, of course, Yanti are returning. Jonathan, Johnathan, Stacey, Marcus, silverback25, Chad, Darren, Tom, Erin and Michael are new pod members. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! One of my largest off-season goals is dropping some weight. I want to drop at least 25, but would love to drop about 45; 25lbs put me at 190, and 45lbs puts me in the 170lb area. One of my largest issues is I love to cook and I cook what I love. I am trying to eat more whole foods instead of processed food. I have not eaten fast food in several weeks nor have I eaten out at a restaurant. I try to cook on the weekend so that way it is quicker and easier during the week to just warm it up. |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! I'm with you on the water thing, especially when its cold. Just to change the taste a bit you could add a little bit of lime juice. With your weather you probably cant get fresh ones but you can normally buy it in a bottle, just a couple of drops in a glass of water is enough to change the flavour. My weakness is tea with lots of sugar, my goal for the new year is not more than 2 cups a day (down from 4 or 5 on some days) with only 1 sugar in each cup. |

My smoothie of choice - 2 cups oat milk or rice milk, a handful of berries fresh or frozen, a banana, chia seeds, cacao nibs and goji berries. A spoon of yoghurt and away you go. Yum. fills me up for a couple of hours. If I had the facilities at work I'd have fresh juice or smoothies. Be careful you eat enough. I was feeling less than slim a couple of weeks back - looked at my exercise and my eating, wasn't getting nearly enough fuel for that level of training. slimmed a bit since i ate more. bodies are dumb! |

I'm English - tea and me are joined at the hip. I have tried giving up sugar in tea/coffee. Cannot be done! So I'm down to half/3/4 of a spoon per cup. Trying not to drink 100 cups a day. I keep a jug of water on my desk and have to drink it by hometime. Best way to get your quota of water, have a cup when you wake up and drink at least half what you're required by 11am. |

The really sad thing is I have not been on a date in so long I think I have forgotten how. Top is 2 turkey patties with durkee fried onions, carrots and green beans. Then couscous with brussel sprouts and grilled chicken breast. Next, grilled turkey patties, lima beans and minestrone soup. Then, sauteed scallops in white wine sauce with green beans. Then, kale salad with steak pieces, tomatoes and lima beans. Finally a grilled chicken salad. Actually, I have been the kitchen elf all day ... 9 hours in the kitchen to put on the Christmas spread. Everything from scratch. EVEN THE BREAD. Three days in advance so it has time to go stale for the stuffing, too It's pretty fun playing guerrilla chef ... can't get a lot of traditional Western ingredients here, so you make do. Gives me a whole new level of respect for Mutti--she was doing all this when there was even less available in Jakarta. Put in a solid 15-hour training week last week. Aiming for 17:30 but 15 is FINE. Less is more at this point, I think. I put in INSANE hours cramming for IMWA and the hard work's done--just need to maintain and cruise into IMNZ. Oh, and lose another 5kg of blubber. Today is a "rest" (from training) day and I'll be back at it tomorrow. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! jbwills - 2012-12-23 10:59 PM I think that one of the big things is figuring out what part of the soda it is that you like? The flavor? The fizz? One of my big issues is snack on the run/while at work and lunches. I am trying to reduce my sodas/cokes/pop but get tired of water rather quickly. Any relatively inexpensive suggestions? or suggestions at all. I am going to try and log more of my food in BT but sometimes forget. I know some people who figured out that it was the fizz and they got a sodastream to make seltzer. If you like citrus then definitely the lemon/lime juice flavoring already mentioned could be the ticket. You could also try the packets (http://www.truelemonstore.com). Finally, for me I could reduce soda but not eliminate it. I allow myself one per day. Yes, I know that Diet Dr. Pepper and Coke Cherry Zero are not health foods. Someday maybe I'll eliminate them but today is not that day. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! I'm going to hit as many as I think of, if I leave anyone out, I apologize in advance: Erin - I use the logs more and more. I started (on a different site) just using times and distances. Then I started here asnd I added routes. After a while I started using the equip tracker, then things like weight, sleep hours, etc. Now I add notes about temperature, humidity, RPE, clothing choices, time of day, and other things I notice when I run. I am trying to figure out how different things affect my running. Next year I'll start logging food choices(again), in an effort to see how that affects things. The odd part is that I'm pretty much a "Just Run" kind of guy, no HRM and I rarely even use the mp3 player. But I'm getting more analytic about stuff, and I do it through my logs. The more I put in there, the more it means to me down the road and the more other Manatees can help me or "inspire" me. Also, I am starting to keep other stuff in the logs, simple observations, songs I like (as one of few country music lovers here I believe it is my civic duty), motivational stuff I find, quotes and other random thoughts. Jonathan - Keep on the water, maybe a bit of fruit juice in there for flavor. I have done OJ, lemon juice, lime juice, cranberry, etc. I cut out full sugar cola a while back and have a diet cola about once a day. And 6 or 7 cups of coffee, so I may not be the best to ask. We do a bunch of weekend cooking, this weekend it was chili. That comes to work with me during the week. Between that and protein bars, I can do pretty well on the food intake when I am diligent. But I do have the willpower of a bilge rat and there is candy all over the office. Ah well, the season is almost over The pic was a great reminder of why I live in Fl now, thanks! Jo - The pics of you and A are awesome. She is just too much. BTW, if I'm Santa do I get the Dos Equis? Felicia - I had forgotten you were doing the RW challenge. That is pretty awesome, given some of the weather you have been having. Kate - What is the Sandyhook Virtual? I may have to do something like that with my sister. Stacey - Good luck on the tea thing. I know I couldn't do that with coffee. Heck, I have a cup of coffee while in the shower in the morning. Oh yeah, I like your avi. Is that one of the dogs you breed in the pic with you? Janyne - I'm right there with you on the soda! BTW, I think your race lists may be a challenge if you do them again this year. We've got quite a group going! Michael - I gotta say, your profile was pretty cool to read. Then I got to the part where you are dating a woman half your age. If it works for you, then more power to ya! Yanti - The training list is quite nice. I hope you are getting the requisite rest and aren't going to run yourself into the ground. I'd love to see what you can do at an IM if you go in fully healthy! I hope you're having a blast in the kitchen. And, as a personal piece of advice, asking people to marry you right after you've met them may be a bit strong. I waited 2 weeks before I asked Ann and see how that is working out. I hope everyone has an awesome Christmas, Boxing Day, Kwanza, Hannakuh, Winter Solstice or any other holiday that you may or may not celebrate. |

Talk to me when you've been out in the real cold Please! I wish it was that warm here. It is currently a frigid -40F outside. Of course I have not been out for a run in these temps I do plan to get at least a mile run in during these extreme temps. I want to have some "bragging" rights when I leave Alaska. I am on vacation for the next 2 weeks so I should get that run in and will post a couple pics.Felicia, notice that he didn't say that he ran outside in it! Speaking of which, our forecast for the 25th is high of 18, 30 mph winds, and 90 percent chance of snow. I think I'll be doing a 1.35 mile dash. Yikes. Fun times. (For those who don't know, I am doing the Runner's World Thanksgiving to New Years Day Running Challenge. I need to run at least one mile a day. Thus my streaking avi.)
