I wanted a 5.7 mile run today but also had a bad night of sleep....so I did 3.9 miles.  My low back and hips will thank me for spending time on the yoga mat today.

Regarding goals....way back when I was working on the floors  in nursing we had to write care plans....sigh those bring back hauntingly bad memories.....any way, we had to have the GOAL as the big picture of what you wanted to accomplish then all the little steps towards that goal.  It's really no different in fitness.  We each have a bigger picture to accomplish whether it's a race or not......nd the training plans for each day are just one step in the process.  There will be days the steps seem insurmountable, but we each have to take the step that day.

Since consistency is key, I want to start the year off right.  Here are my modest goals for January:

1.  Track the food I eat for 14 days straight and at least 85% of the days in the month.

2.  Workout at least 4 days a week (or 80% of what my program calls for).

3.  Drink 3 bottles of water at work each day.

My wife was a floor nurse when she first started her nursing career.  There's a reason she's in the operating room now.

I do like the analogy though.  I struggle with framing my training in the right light sometimes since I apparently have the patience of a gnat when it comes to building things over the long term.  I think I fall into a bit of the ex-jock syndrome with my training, where I used to be athletic so everything should still come rather naturally / easily for me.  "Why should I only do "x" when I used to be able to do "y"?"

On the positive side, I catch myself doing it a little more that I used to and am working changing my internal voice so it is more of a force for good in my life instead of a limiter.

Okay - all caught up on the thread.  Just a few quick things:

A belated Happy New Year to everyone and I look forward to working with you all over the next few months!

I went through and cleaned out my friends list, so you all should now be able to see my training log.  If you can't, please let me know and I will add you.

I have a swim on the docket for today.  I may push it back and do yesterday's planned bike and run since I have an rest day on Friday.  Not much to rest from at the moment, so I might as well take advantage.

Not a dumb question if you've never really used it.  Lord knows I can't find all kinds of things when I finally try to look for them.

Go to "Settings" (at the top of the screen) then the "Training Blog Customization" tab and then the "Friends" tab.  If you aren't sure of someone's name (or in Fred's case, if they use a space or a _ between their names), the "..." after the open spot will allow you to do a search for someone's name.

Fred D - 2013-01-02 4:06 AM What's on tap for training today?

another day another run for me!  I will probably get out at about the same time today (~3pm).  Until then, I'm home all day hanging with the kids trying to get the house cleaned up from the holiday's.  My daughter has a slumber party for her birthday this weekend, so we've got to get everything put away so there's enough room for 7 girls to sleep on the floor of the guest room!  Which is also my 'workout room', so it means stowing the treadmill and bike rollers for a week or so.  Not that I've used either in months anyway...

Weather here is nice, it's looking like it will be 50 degrees and sunny again.

Totally jealous of that weather.  It was a balmy 9F when I took the dog out this morning.

Run done. Hit the treadmill and ended up going further than I expected - thank you Rachael Ray and your idiotic makeover show.

2nd day done.  Went out on the mountain bikes with my husband and his training partner.  It was our first night ride on the mountain bikes, and we went along the old railway lines near my home.  They're about the flattest training ground around here (it's pretty hilly where I live), and we just bought some really good bike lights which worked well in the pitch black.

Another fun session Laughing

Kids gave me a cold for one of my Christmas gifts so unable to train the past 3 days until today. It seemed like forever and was extra hard to get up this morning. I pushed through a 30min ride on the trainer and then a 3 mile run on the treadmill.

January Goals:

-Begin my first tri season

-Get diet back on track, maintained 80/20 paleo last year..worked for me until the holidays =(

-Start zero to 1650 in 6 weeks swimming program

-Survive open water swim class and half marathon next weekend

Lots of good training here!  Great to see it.

I ran this morning and plan on some yoga this evening.

Short treadmill run for me.  I'm going to try doing all my runs on the treadmill for a while to see if I avoid the piriformis pain that has plagued me for the past year and a half.

We had our 14 month old granddaughter the past 3 nights, took her home this morning.  She is super cute but so busy, can't get anything done when she's here.  I don't know how people with young kids find time to train for anything.

Must have been something off about last night.  I too had a lot of trouble sleeping.  So my run this morning did not happen.  However, on the plus side,  I had an unexpected break at work so I was able to get in a Strength Training session.  One of the benefits of working at the YMCA!

Morning!  Off to the TM for another punishing interval session followed by a swim lesson!  Completed yesterday's swim and kept the positive attitude.  So far, I'm on track.

It was the though of being accountavle to you  that got me out of my bed to the pool this morning.  However, if I had known it was an IM drill day I might have stayed home.  Nothing worse than seeing me attempt breast or fly which really won't help me in the scheme of things for triathlon anyway.

Way to go anyway!  At least it will help with overall fitness and lung capacity

Daughter's first day back at school, which means I was up and at'em at a stupid time (although not nearly as stupid as when I get back to work, which means occasional training at 0-dark-300).

Treadmill 3 this afternoon, maybe a little yoga if I have time.
