Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() runnergirl29 - 2006-09-19 8:26 AM I did the century option for the first day of the ride and ran for 40 mins. afterwards. My training plan had me down for a 5 hour ride and 40 min run. It took me just under 6 hours to complete the 100 miles so I figure it matched my trianing plan pretty closely. The 2nd day of the ride was actually 89 miles. I didn't run off the bike this day- I just wanted to get home becuase it had been a long weekend ![]() Great Job! Holy S, I feel like a slug, Thanks. I tried to run 10 miles on Sunday and barely managed 7. I have to think it is the antibiotics that are kicking my butt. I rode on saturday, 50 miles, ran off the bike but only 1 mile. I forgot how awful bricks are, ugh. Only 3 more days of antibiotics.... My hubby and I are riding 75 miles this saturday, next saturday is a century and the following saturday is a 90 miler. The last two rides are planned events. Its awesome to be training for Florida as opposed to Lake Placid, I can avoid all big hills! How nice! So, Runnergirl, when you cross the finish line before me, hang out for like, 3 hours until I drag my butt through the finish chute. ![]() |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all you awesome IM to be!!! I know it's really an intense time for all of us training and lots of reasons to feel worn down, tired. So easy to get sick!! Hang in there all. For my schedule, I have just two more hard weeks starting next week, then it's taper time. I had my longest run this past Sunday since my marathon in December - 18 miles. I rode 80 on Saturday, then ran 4- they were misreable, slow miles! Sunday 18 mile run was better than the Saturday 4 mile run, but the whole weekend wore me out. Thank goodness for recovery weeks. I am doing the bottom end of what is on my schedule. Plan to get naps in this weekend for sure to get ready for the two hard weeks. We will all be in Florida before we know it- all jittery, and excited and nervous and just waiting for that big boom to come at 7 am Saturday morning. It will so be worth it. No matter where we finish up, no matter our individual times, when we cross that finish line, we will all be equal Ironmen!!! Don't ya love it? I am actually looking forward to the run portion because I know there are gonna be folks out there who need a lift up, a word of encouragement, and I just feel that God is gonna give me those words. I also know that I am going to need them too and that He is going to put people out there on that course who will be doing the same for me. How Awesome is that!! Hope you all have a great weekend, rest, hit those vit. c, Zinc and echenuesia....thank your loved ones and friends for believing in you and now is the time to just surround yourself with nothing but positive vibes. No negative words from here on out. It is BELIEVE, BELIEVE, BELIEVE. I don't even know any of you personally, but I am so proud of you and of your commitment and dedication to this event!!! As I tell my training partners here- My mantra - "BRING IT BABY!!!" Becky |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Getting worried about making it through training....sigh! Since my last race I have been very sluggish, fatigued and sore. I've been missing out on a lot of training. I'm very concerned about being able to make it to the start line in good condition to do the race. Since I have done and ironman I KNOW that i don't want to go into this race feeling sick or unprepared. I am going to the doctor today and I really hope i can figure out what is going on and start some sort of treatment. See my other post about Candida. (cross your fingers)! I just did a 10 mile trail race this Sunday and have a century ride planned for Saturday. Hope everyone is doing well! |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know we're still six weeks out, and I still have work to do, but I feel ready to go *today*. I did 100 miles with almost 11000 feet of climbing in poring rain yesterday, and ran a strong three miles off the bike yesterday. I swear Six Gap is harder than IM is going to be. I battled all day with not weanting to be out there, and really wanted to take the turn for the shorter option, but I kept reminding myself to use the adverse consitions to my advantage. So I tried to smile as much as possible and just got through the day. Pkus, it turns out that screaming down mountains at 40+mph, barely able to see with so much rain in my face is actually pretty fun. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jim, Sounds like a great training day for you! I think the mental work that goes into those kinds of days where you beat the urge to blow off some of the ride or run is of as much benefit as the physical aspect. We all are gonna face that mental monster out there on the course somewhere. I have been using that part of my training- the mental strenthening of perservere, achieve, hard headed plowing on as a foundation for what it will take Nov. 4. I am going into it with the attitude of 'Bring it on'- because I want to slay that monster and race on down the street to the finish line! In some ways, I almost wish it were this weekend. I feel pretty ready myself and am ready to get on with it. But the 39 days we have left are important. Everyone be safe and stay healthy!!! Becky |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Holy cow. I just liked at the six gap route. The Hilly Hellacious Hundred has similar specs, but I would guess that six gap has harder climbs. Was Brasstown Bald as rough as they say? I know the joy of the descent as well. I'm happy to climb for 10 miles just to have that descent. One of my favorite rides is from the end of the blue ridge parkway up to Balsam camp ground and back. It's like 10.5 miles uphill (well there's one short downhill of .25 miles) to the turnoff to balsam gap, but the descent is great fun on a good surface. Faith is taking a tunnel at 40mph without lights! |

BB isn't on the route, but Hogpen (7 miles long with 2 miles at >15%)--especially after you've already been over 3 gaps, was hard enough. I know a couple of guys who took a turn and added BB to make it a 7 gap ride, just for fun. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did my first century ride yesterday. Rained on us the first hour or so. Not fun. A challenging ride, but a good one nonetheless and a confidence builder for me. The ride was 103 miles and I know I could have ticked off 9 more with no problem. Got off the bike and felt pretty good. Not sore today, but still can't feel the two little fingers on my left hand. Happened after my last long (5 1/2 hour) ride so it should be fine in a day or so. Guess I am putting too much weight on my hands when sitting upright. Getting excited that IMFL is so close now. Ready for the next three big training weeks to be behind us and let's get to peak weeks and TAPER! Yeah, baby I'm all about the taper! And as motivation, this is what I'm getting for (early) Christmas present.

Awesome century rides! Glad it was a confidence builder for you! This week is another high volume week ( mostly with the bike) for me, and then I slowly start tapering. I love that M Dot pendant- it's pretty!! Talk about some serious motivation!! I was thinking about getting an M Dot pendant since I'm not really a tatoo person. But I'll probably get just the plain M Dot pendant in sterling silver. Edited by runnergirl29 2006-09-26 7:37 AM |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can't wait to get my tattoo!!! Just trying to decide if I want it just above my ankle or on my shoulder in the back. The pendants are pretty too- I'm bad to lose jewlery. This week and next are probably going to be high volume for most all of us. Be careful out there! I had a good 4,300 yard swim in the pool last night. With one that long, I start visualizing race morning and how to keep my breathing down fighting for my own space with 2,000 other folks trying to do the same thing! Ditto on taper time! I am looking forward to that too. Becky |

I am starting to make a list of what I'll need and get everything together for the race. I need more gels, Cliff Bloks, new goggles, spare tire, and the list goes on...we're almost there! I can't believe it! |

I have seriously contemplated crawling under my desk at work to nap from time to time - like Costanza in that episode of Seinfeld. Only thing that stops me is I can just see someone walking around to the other side of my desk to leave me a note or something and stubbing their toe on me. DOH! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I came home for lunch (I actually live 3 miles from work) after a 15 mile run in the morning and fell asleep on the coach watching Sports Center. I sleep through a meeting and got back to work just in time to have a co-worker point out the sleep wrinkles in my face! Good thing I have a sympathetic office and boss. They just laughed and offered to buy me some coffee. |

It's about saving energy and keeping your heart rate down. I got my tatoo on my ankle. It was placed right above my sock line too. I think I have postd this photo before but you can see it again for inspiration! I like the ankle for maximum visibility! Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the photo Jeanne! That nails it- tattoo on the ankle for me! And crossing the finish line in Canada. How awesome. My friend who is the IM Man- has done a dozen of them, did Wisconsin, doing Fla and doing AZ has told me that they pull the tape across for every runner who finishes. How neat is that! Too funny all our sleep stories. I think every single one of us is sufffering the same way! We would be misrable company in a day time meeting for sure. All we would do is sit like zombies. I am so ready for this IM too. One more hard week then recovery and taper, taper. But, I wonder if the taper is not going to make me crazy. After so much hard, long training, my body is gonna be wanting to get back at it, or at least my mind, and I know I gotta have that taper time to get into full recovery. Plus, I can't be eating like a trojan during taper like I am when I'm training 20 - 30 hours a week! I get more and more pumped about it as time gets closer. I want to drive off the bike course on Wednesday after I arrive in PCB. Have a great, safe weekend all. Train smart and sleep well Becky |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I can relate to the sleep thing. I love sleep! I'm missing her badly while I'm away from her during my IM training. Yesterday I was supposed to do a 2.5 hour run. Got up a 5AM (about 2.5 hours earlier than I would if I wasn't training) and ended up bagging the run after 1:40 because I couldn't wake up. Went home and showered and then hit the bed in my office (I work out of a home office when not traveling) with a power nap for about an hour or so. Maybe I should move this bed out of my office until November 5th? My main inspiration now is that my peak week is next week and everything starts going downhill (I hope) after that. Here's to some quality Z's, JG |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() How many hours do you guys have in your plan for the remaining weeks? I am following the Training Bible Hours and have the following: 16 hours (this week) - Base 3 week 2 I think this week and next week are going to darn near kill me. To get to 16 and 18 hours I have to do almost a 6 hour bike on the weekends (work schedule doesn't allow me to do much training during the week). Just curious to see what everyone else has planned. Hope you all are doing well!

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 9/25 - 9.5 (this past week) All workouts are becoming longer. Less short stuff. Saturday the 14th is my longest day - swim 1:50, bike 6:30, run :45. That's 9 hours of working out. |

The Original ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm ready for this thing called IM FL. I have a few more long bikes, one more long run, and my farthest swim and in 2 weeks and then it's all donwhill from there. I am so ready to be done. I just want my life back and I'm antsy to start marathon training and riding my bike and swimming for fun, not because I have to. But not too much longer... |
