Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed mbehr1983 - 2013-03-16 10:52 AM I just skipped the bike all together. I did a decent 10 mile run at 1:42:04 was hoping for 1:45 so not to bad. The whole race I stuck to the plan. I get to mile 9 and all the sudden a sharp pain emerges from Achilles tendon. This was horrible because I was planning on doing my fastest mile. I could barely put pressure on it. This happened in one race last year also. I am satisfied with the result as it was about 13 mins faster than the same race last year. The plan I am on uses weird numbers because the guy says he likes to keep pure 10% rule ineffect I will post the report in a few Have a Great Saturday Mike--great work, but what's up with the AT? are you ok? Linda (Terps)--awesome work today. Winning Masters is a big darn deal! Linda--I feel like I've known you for a lifetime already. Isn't wine your middle name? I'm having a glass of Syrah in honor of you and David tonight. Maybe two! To the Seattle threesome--very jealous you can all run together so frequently! I want to know who talks the most. I am guessing it's Birdy. Kim--what do you think? My Vietnamese girl had a heart attack when she saw the second character so this was the best we could do. Life is good in the land of Wisconsin. My Badgers won again and I have my last longish run tomorrow. Then I'll be thinking of slightly warmer temps, meeting Linda and Kim and consuming a lot of DIM SUM! With the exception of a family hike up Enchanted Rock, I've been fairly inactive due to some long hours in the office and a trip to San Francisco. This week has been much better! I finally stopped putting off learning how to swim. I was in the pool everyday from Monday to Friday and I just finished up a 25M bike ride that kicked my butt. To keep things rolling I've committed to a daily blog of my training activities. By chance, a Google search turned up a co-workers triathlon blog from two years ago when he did his first Ironman. I'm going to follow his lead because it seemed really effective. Caleb |

I have been diving for 13 years myself, and this will be my first comitted year to Triathlon. Excellent that is awesome. I have never really done any east coast stuff. I dive the great lakes mostly. I have been out west a few times and Florida to cave country every spring. I switched over to CCR diving about 4 years ago. Same time I started to take my health serious and Triathlons soon followed. I know of several other divers that made the transition to include triathlons into their lifestyle. I lost a lot of weight, improved my cardio and it made me a safer diver along the way. Down side was I had to go out and buy a new darn drysuit after losing the weight....lol Everyone told me triathlons were costly.. I didn't know it meant It would cost me more dive gear though...hahaha.. Stay in touch. |

Did you stop, slow down, or push through based on knowledge, will, drive? |

Did you stop, slow down, or push through based on knowledge, will, drive?[/QUOTE] That's a great question, Birdy. I was going to ask a question tomorrow about mental toughness. You must have been reading my mind!! For me the last "tough spot" I was in was my 50k on Dec 29th. My nutrition was off and I was not feeling well mentally and physically because of it. I felt queasy and had no appetite, but I knew I needed to keep fuel in the tank. I relied on a few things to get through the 7 hours. lol 1.) The knowledge that discomfort/pain usually subsides if you just give it time. You may may need to slow down and make adjustments, but it usually gets better. 2) I break things into smaller parts so I don't get overwhelmed and discouraged. Next aid station, next tree/hill etc. 3) I try to take my mind out of the equation and focus on something else. What feels good? Look at the beautiful scenery? Look at all these other awesome people--they're probably suffering their own struggles too! Think about the MG and all the people who encourage and support me. 4) I have a few phrases/mantras I repeat in my head until #1 happens. 5) Remind myself of my goal. Was it just to finish? If so, then I can slow down. Was it to set a PR? Then, suffer and push on. Was it to build a sense of belonging? Then, focus on encouraging others.

Did you stop, slow down, or push through based on knowledge, will, drive? Not exactly a pain cave, but ... Sunday morning. Abyssmal nutrition/sick. Should not have run. Stomach virus during the 24 hours leading up to the race and couldn't hold anything but water down during the race. ... but not from a lack of trying. Threw up three times in the first seven miles. No energy to run uphill, so I tried running only the flats and downhills. Running downhill started causing additional nausea and dizziness by mile 8. Walked it in with a couple of short jogs near the finish. Never considered just quitting. Going back to 41M. 37F is too dammed difficult.

I did quite a bit of visualization beforehand and had developed a phrase to hang on to during the last couple of minutes of each interval when I really wanted to jump off the TM. It worked, but it definitely didn't hurt any less. |

Veteran 256 | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Hi all. My DS (Robbie) and his GF (Kristin) had their wedding this weekend and it was perfect. Perfect weather, the grounds and the facilities, the service itself, the reception, the attendees, everything. I know I'm not objective at all, but there's never been a better wedding. No hiccups whatsoever. I was soooo happy all weekend long. I had so much fun being the host. I'm very quiet and not outgoing at all, but everywhere I looked were family and friends - people I love. For a few hours at least I ran around like a true social butterfly - the only running I did! (No biking or swimming either for that matter.) The Newlyweds have gone down to Key West for a few days away from school. Real life will return for all of us shortly - but not today. Here are three of the billion or so pictures taken. Bill

Honestly every work out feels like this right now. I do not seem to have the mental drive that I used to for any of this. I hate every run right now and have a mentally tough time. I hate the few swim workouts I have done and I can't stand spin class. I am FORCING myself to go and I want to quit every single time right now. I had a better go at this when I was 285lbs trying to lose weight. Mentally I have wanted to cry on every run I have been doing. Surprisingly I feel good after it and that alone hasn't been enough to make me want to run 2 days later. I am not so sure it is a pain cave. But it sure is a lack of motivation cave. I can't control my nutrition either. I eat junk every night right now.. I say no then when I give into a little I say screw it I already messed up may as well keep eating. I will get through this I have had a rough 6 months with Surgery, separation and the loss of my best friend my dog 3 weeks ago. This is the most peach I have seen on my logs in 6 months. But I honestly don't feel like doing a single workout. |
