No wonder I'll never be on the leaderboard, other people are doing 50 hour runs in one day!

Right? I actually had to remind myself how to count to 50 before I realized 50 hours is a bit more than two days and two nights....

I'm out! LOL Last weekend we went to FL for a combo vacation/clean out grandma's condo. And of course while we are there "hey the Miami Half marathon is that weekend so let's register!" It's Miami they said! Overdress while you are training to simulate the heat my coach said. Game day temperature was 46 degrees with 30mph wind gusts - I kid you not. Well anyway long story short I ran probably exactly where I should be for this time of year etc. My coach was actually really pleased because despite the wind I pushed through and my paces didn't fall off. So apparently I have "good durability." yay me! in other news, I see a little bit of chatter on what to watch on the trainer. I've been watching The Man in the High Castle - LOVE IT. Only 1 episode left. I have a bike test on Tuesday. Trying to decide what to watch or if I'm better off with music. I'd love to get your thoughts! Another weekend is upon us - who else is racing - besides Yanti & Kingsley? GO TEAM!

Ugh!  I did Myrtle Beach the year we had wind like that.  It takes a lot out of you!  Great job getting it done.  Yeah for durability!

Yes I have watched Twin Peaks. The show was very good, but fell off at the end. If you like Twin Peaks, make sure you watch the Psych episode "Dual Spires". I thought it was great but I love that show.

Also just checking in, I am about to start a 12 week training plan either Sunday or Monday. It will be the first time I have tried a dedicated plan. My main issue will be the running since I am only really allowed to run once a week. I am hoping to do some of the easy run workouts on an elliptical or stair climber or something else. I know an elliptical is not the same as running, but at least it is something.

Good Luck Racing Manatee's this weekend!!!

What plan will you be following? I mean, for what race? Triathlon? Sorry to hear you can only run once a week :/ that sucks... Do you know when approximately you will be allowed to run more?

I've been watching season 1 of Fargo (on Hulu) and I find that it's got a quirkiness similar to Twin Peaks.  You know, in case Mary G needs a post-Twin Peaks obsession

Given the second season is a bit disappointing (well, it seems it is written and directed by some other folks...) I may actually need some post TP therapy haha Or something 45 minutes long that would occupy me when I'm on treadmill...

Is this any way connected to Fargo, the movie?

Well, the movie and the series are both produced by the Coen brothers and both take place in MN.  Similar humor.

I am using the Beginner Sprint plan off of this site for the Carmel Sprint Triathlon in Indianapolis. I have done the race before, but hoping for a better performance.

As far as running more than once a week, I am not sure that will ever happen. Maybe once I have a knee replacement, but sometimes you just need to be happy you can run!!

When my running has been limited, two things have been recommended to me.  The evil stair stepper (the one that looks like a flight of neverending stairs) and deep water running.

I do have access to one of those stair steppers, but have never used it. Maybe I will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

With your knee, I don't know if that would be helpful or not.  Deep water running requires a pool with deep water (5' won't cut it) but does help with fitness.

Well, its Friday (for most of us, sorry Darren), the brass is gone, and the heels are gone.

I went to the dentist this morning for him to do a bit more work before he sends me off for... surgery . Here is my dilemma, he is sending me to a periodontist for an "osseous reduction", which basically means the guy cuts open the gums over the tooth, files down the bone, then closes it back up.  I haven't spoken to the surgeon yet but my dentist thinks a couple days off from running should do it.  I have Ragnar (24 miles total) in 3 weeks and, of course, an ultra in two months. That sounds really unpleasant!!!  I've not had surgery or an illness that has knocked me out so close to a race, but I don't think you'll lose too much fitness in a week and should be able to get back up to speed  quickly. It takes 7-14 days before aerobic fitness starts to decline.  The better shape you're in the longer you hold onto your fitness. At least that's my understanding.

Reading the words "osseous reduction" gave mu teeth chills.... I know absolutely nothing about such situation, I'm sorry :/ Did you discuss with your doctor? What are the chances it will hold a week instead of three days?
Also, do you remember any situation when you had to miss a week of training closer to the race?

Thoughts?

That sounds really unpleasant!!!  I've not had surgery or an illness that has knocked me out so close to a race, but I don't think you'll lose too much fitness in a week and should be able to get back up to speed  quickly. It takes 7-14 days before aerobic fitness starts to decline.  The better shape you're in the longer you hold onto your fitness. At least that's my understanding.

Yeah, if I didn't trust this guy I would NOT put up with the crap he inflicts on me.

I don't know that I've ever had to stray from a plan...  I first asked my dr about it at my last appointment when he thought the surgery might include more teeth. At that point he gave me the one week answer. But now, since it's "only" one tooth, he says two or three days. He's not a runner though, I'm hoping the surgeon will be. When I had my wisdom teeth out (see how much crap he puts me through?) the surgeon was a runner and gave me realistic answers about missing training.

I know I'll be fine if I only miss a run, or two, but what if it takes me out for a week? I'm not sure that waiting until after the ultra is an option but I'm not liking the idea of surgery, although minor, so close to a race.

Anyone had this done?

Thoughts?

Can you still contact that other surgeon? And just call him and ask the question?

Try not to worry about it until you have more info.  I know, you're a triathlete and we were built to obsess.

Are you using the same person that your wisdom teeth?

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
