I'll be in San Antonio all next week for work training.  Bringing lots of running clothes and will be really putting the body through a personal stress test.  Probably even some doubles.  Hope to get in the 40 - 50+ mile range when all is said and done for the week.  If at the end of it my heart isn't freaking out, then it becomes time to put back on my endurance athlete hat and start training (basically from scratch) for LP.

If the heart can't take it?  Then I'm calling WTC the next week and calling it quits and getting my refund.

Let me be the first to say that I truly hope you can do LP this year Rick. You are a great dude to have in a race. Of course I will respect your final decision... just letting you know where I stand.

I'll second that thought, but add I don't give a rats a@# if you do LP, I just hope you find yourself in a position to be able to do the daily activities you love to do.

PennState - 2010-02-19 3:34 PM Well Dan is sounding like the most exciting person on the LP thread. We can live vicariously through him

Indeed.  I'll be the boringest person, consistently training my way through, and emerging from obscurity on race day.

OH MY GOSH!!!!  cannot beleive I did that again....seriously...Its not that hard...but for me it obviously is....

clearly I need a drink......

I can help you with that!
As Dan emerges from his booze fueled, ski bunny chasing weekend! You know you can log chasing tail as a run workout....

If that's the case, I think I eclipsed your run total for the year.  I did a LOT of chasing.   Catching...well, perhaps.

This post is useless without pics

You guys are TOTALLY underestimating yeats- don't let him sneak by to kick all your butts on race day. Watch out, he's fast and training his skinny a$$ off.

I am!  I bet Jazz & Yeats will come too!

OK who’s going to spear head this?  Are we talking about Friday, Saturday and Sunday or Saturday and Sunday?

Maybe Jenn could put some cots in her garage after she moves all the trainers.  Probable have to ok it with Holden first.  Wink

I think it would be great to do a Fri, Sat, Sun if people were interested.  Whether or not it was full day on Fri or just a Fri night swim & run.

Picking the date will be the most challenging part.  Here are the weekends:

4/10--Cherry Blossom 10 miler in DC (PennState & I are both doing this race)
4/17--Boston Mary  (this doesn't affect me, not sure if it does others)
4/24
5/1--I'll be out of town this weekend.
5/8
5/15
5/22--Columbia Triathlon weekend (doesn't affect me, not sure if others are doing it)
5/29--Memorial Day weekend
6/5
6/12--Eagleman
6/19--I'll be at Jorge's training camp in LP
6/26

4/24 & 5/8 or 5/15 look like they could be a great choices if we want an April or May date.  Or if we wanted it to be over Memorial Day (5/29 weekend) we could do that as well.  For June I'm not sure if people think 6/5 is too close to Eman.  I'd be fine with it but I'm doing the race as a relay.  Maybe 6/26 would be a good weekend.  One final big training weekend with 4 weeks to absorb the training.

I have a 4 bedroom house so I could potentially host people here if my kids go to my parents for the weekend (they would love this idea!).   Pretty used to hosting as we have lots of people that crash here for football weekends.  So lots of beds and it would keep the cost down for people.  Plus, it would be fun!

Thoughts?  We could open this to others who maybe aren't doing LP but are just looking for a fun, hard training weekend as well if we wanted.

PennState - 2010-02-20 11:17 AM yes, thinking about an early Sat am long ride. then a break... and then swim and run later. Sunday am long run... and then back to regular lives. Depending on time of year and family plans (mine)... we could easily accomodate a few in my house.

Look at my big list of dates above.   Any that do/don't work for you?

Ooo- treachery- I'm in! I think I'm going to have to doctor his bike a bit race morning in order to beat his bike split. Yeats is going to eat the LP hills for breakfast.

I'm only 5'10", 165, I climb like a MACHINE. A hilly course actually favors me. I train with a lot of climbing for living in int he Phoenix metro area. In 2007 I split a 5:03 bike in Hawaii, you tell me, James. Heat and hills, it's what's for dinner.

That’s damm good Bryan.  Laughing

LP is about 6600ft per my Garmin 305 edge.  I rode a 5:36 so not bad.  I know Fred did much better.  Heat on a bike is not so bad for me; it’s better than the run.  I've been to the Big Island and out in the lava fields a few times.  I know the heat but never ridden it.  Not real sure what Hawaii’s elevation gain is but I’ve heard 4500ft.  I found the following like that list it.
