velcromom - 2010-11-21 5:50 PM Easy time-killer sitting here watching AZ.  My kids are totally disgusted that I'm spending time WATCHING races now.  Ah, well.  Niners weren't any fun, and I really don't want to be doing paperwork that I should do....so.   Fun time sin AZ, and I'm so excited for 2011!!

Suzy - what's an EMS?
Kyla - SNOW!  How cool!  We got hail last night.....but no snow.  Just really cold rain.

On my bike thoughts.....is the Shimano Ultegra a good drivetrain?

You may have had E stim during PT.

Definition:

Electrical stimulation uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin in various locations the physical therapist can recruit the appropriate muscle fibers. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle. The physical therapist can change the current setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assists in healing.

My SEVEN started with all Ultegra components and I was totally fine it.  Of course, then I upgraded to Dura Ace for some reason Innocent.

Ahhh yes, I've had the little tinglies. Fun!!

My LeMond roadie and Scott tri bike are all Ultegra. Folks "in the know" with whom I spoke feel like it's the best bang for the buck. Lighter than 105, cheaper and more durable than DA. I have two friends who have bikes with DA who plan to use Ultegra when they need to replace components. It's good enough for me. If I need lighter, I can stop eating ice cream. But that ain't gonna happen any time soon!!!

Have Ultegra on one bike and Dura-ace on the other.  Cannot tell the difference at all.  Ultegra has been a great drivetrain for me!

Dino

Yep, agree, I personally can't tell the difference.

hey peeps.
tracking arizona today too. We have 5 ladies from our group in it.
2 of them look to be step for step. they are best buds and its no surprise they are running together.
2 of them are half way done the run.
1..str-uggl-ling. she's a bit of a heavy lady. 49 years old. Didn't make the cut off last year at Canada. She just rolled throught the first run check point running 14:55/mile. If she keep that pace up, she barely gets in.

Niners. Ugh.  They will win just enough games so that we have a terrible draft pick again next year.  geesh.

I have ultegra on both bikes, the newer ultegra on my tri bike looks really good...and shifting is very smooth.

Good luck on the sign up tomorrow morning, Linda!!!!!  Type fast and have Jeff ready, too!

Yes, we had hail here this morning right after Ripley and I finished our walk, thank goodness!  Not so lucky yesterday, I still have red marks on my arms from the hail during my run.  Violins?  Cheese with my whine???

Wow, Tony, that is crazy, is that even humanly possible to be in Z5 for 40 minutes?  Nice effort!!!

I guess I should be careful what I wish for.....I had my long run yesterday (11 miles) and it was tough....humid, warm...yep, in November right before Thanksgiving....

I am heading north to Missouri later this week where it will be in the 20's and 30's in the mornings.  I am not sure I have enough warm layers to wear for a run, but willing to check out cold weather running for a change.  But, I can not imagine running in single digit temps.

My first half-marathon is in 2 weeks.  It could be warm, or it could be cold.....but I guess I have trained for either set of conditions.

TrevorC - 2010-11-20 8:45 PM Tough day out there today. got in a 90 minutes run outdoors, and was pretty much frozen stiff the whole time. Ar run time is was 0F with a bit of wind. So was happy to get hat much in. Went to the gym with michelle and ran on a 200m track for a while. Chatted with my cocach and she gave me a bit of an interval workout to run.
So got in a decent run today, but it was supposed to be my last long run, and I am abit worried as I don't feel like I got my last one in. And my last 20 miler(ok John 19.88) sucked royally.

The best part of the day was handing up beers to racers in the later laps of their races.  Even the elites who were out of contention grabbed some.  Of course, watching the misses and beer explosions was even better!

LOL, yeah some people received beers that had been dropped 2-3 times already...

I know I keep saying it but cross racing is a blast, if you can find a bike to do it on try it out, it's not like anything I have ever done before.

I'll second that Tony.  I don't even race cyclocross but just being there is a great atmosphere.  I was finally able to identify the biggest difference between the tri community and the cx group. Both are very friendly but at tri's there is a much more serious atmosphere and people are very focused on equipment, nutrition, purity etc.  At cx it is balls to the walls for as long as you can and then break out the beer!!   And according to Sam, they don't even wait for the race to be over!

Spoke with my coach about next year and I have some good news and bad news.

Good news: he wants me to do an early season half so looks like I'm committed with my husband to be racing Rev 3.

Bad news:  can't do the relay John and Sam.  I'll be pulling my own weight on the half.

Started to feel that first cold of the season coming on yesterday, figures with one kid in the basement all weekend in "teenage sick hibernation" (those with teens know what I am referring to!) and the wife coughing all over me....and I sure the roller-coaster weather this fall in WI, has not helped!!!

So I slept in this AM and got to work feeling some guilt (admit it...we all feel that missed workout guilt) and I couldn't remember the old saying: "Run a cold, Bike the Flu, Swim whatever, etc."..   Laughing :

Anyway, ran across a couple of good articles as reminders of when to rest and when to HTFU!

I've always heard if it's above the neck, workout.  If not, don't.  I have yet to abide by that rule, but I do think it can weaken your immune system further and prolong the illness if you pound it.  I go into it knowing that and it serves me right if my cold hangs on for a month.  Feel better!

Kyla - SNOW!  How cool!  We got hail last night.....but no snow.  Just really cold rain.

On my bike thoughts.....is the Shimano Ultegra a good drivetrain?
