I looked at rolling resistance, puncture resistance and price. I ended up with Pro 3 light which are rated with latex tubes at .00257 compared to Pro 3s I used last year that are .00306. Not sure how much time they will save.

I considered also

Continental Grand Prix Supersonic found they were very prone to cuts and flats

Vittoria Open Corsa Evo 320 tpi CX, more expensive

I must get on my bike and ride....I've been procrastinating with BT time, emailing that company to find out sizing and if they could do a Happy 50th Birthday Tri/Cycling top, writing my son a letter.

5 hours...plan to start on CT then take bike outside later when it warms up.

Must get on my bike, must do my long ride....

What will I watch?

Shasha has HS soccer game at 4.

Posting this hopefully will help me get this done

So do you ride the 23`s in the back for comfort. I was thinking about doing keeping my 21 front and changin the back to 23 to see the diffrenece

Plainsman AU - 2011-10-17 7:38 PM

I am getting the jitters.  I have all but had to abandon the run from now till the race because of my It band.  Feeling really good about the swim and bike, and am scared to death of the run, or it may be a walk at this point.

Got in a couple slow 2 hr runs up until a week or so ago, and the It band kicks in after a few miles.  Tried to walk 5 this past friday, and it flared up on my walk.  So I guess I am going to have to let it heal from now till race time.    I am adding some bike / swim to keep decent volume but hope that I can pull off a 4/1 run walk till it turns into a walk.

I am hoping that some run fitness will still be there, but all the run fitness in the world is no good if the knee won't cooperate.

I'm in the same boat with IT band issues.  I haven't run in about 2 weeks and don't plan to until race day (unless I try to run short off the bike this weekend) Rolling, icing, stretching and weekly chiro/ART/Acupuncture appts will hopefully get me through.  At this point, I am prepared to deal with the pain on the marathon but don't want to aggravate it until the race.

I arrive mid-day Wed after long drive, hope to get all of the IM formalities out of the way that afternoon.

Definitely in for swims Thur-Fri, and get togethers & B'day celebrations on Thur & Sun

Will have to drive all day Monday (back to Fort Lauderdale) so will miss the pontoon boat this year

Just looking for accommodation at moment, anyone with hot-tips let me know, looking for a studio - strangely 2 bedroom appartments are cheaper than studios on VRBO at the moment - go figure!

BTW - I'll be on Michelin Pro3 Race tires, also, just did a tide check, will be a minimal rising tide, cresting at 7:54, so wind will likely be more of a factor than current.

I'm afraid to post - don't want another 20 posts to show up   Yow, sorry about that folks.

I'm riding Conti 4000's.  I might rethink the tri shorts - it would be so much easier if I didn't have to change in T1.  Just throw on a top, helmet, shoes and go.

A lot of people have said not to hurry, make sure you are comfortable coming out of the transitions, a few minutes won't make difference, etc.   But my thought process is I work hard to get my bike, run and swim faster why would I want to throw away 5 or 10 extra minutes in the transitions.  I'm not going to rush but don't want to waste time either.

If you rush through and forget something that makes you a bit uncomfortable, you will slow down and lose more time than if you're deliberate during transition.

"Normal" transition times for IM for age groupers is around 15 minutes.

For those of us who are not familar with the workings of the ocean, how will this affect us? Does a rising tide mean we will have a little current working against us going out, but helping coming in? Just curious. Based on the tone of your post it doesn't sound like it will be a huge factor either way.

just curious what people are doing about food?  We are gonna be there from wed to mon and likely hit the publix on the way up from west palm or groceries.  i figured it may be better to cook some meals that are relatively healthy for the couple days before the race then necessarily eat out all the time.

There is a walmart if that helps not carrying the food in the car.

Done....5 hours and 15 minutes on trainer....surprisingly it wasn't that horrible.

I had planned to do 2 hours inside then finish outside but my kids need transportation so rode 3:45 on CT at home, picked up from school, drove daughter to HS soccer game and set up my trainer and finished my ride. Someone came and talked to me for about 40' in the hardest part of my ride which distracted me and helped time pass faster.

I'm using Continental GP4000s.  I used to use latex tubes but with HED6s you need valve extenders and I had a lot of trouble with them.  So back to butyl - I'll just have to push more watts right ?

One big plus I like about IMFL is logistics and what all is available. Since it is the off season, you can get into any restaurants, everything you need is close by. Many just walk to Walmart if they are staying at Shores of Panama, Sunbird or Wharf.

Rural IM races can be challenging as they don't have many grocery stores, roads or restaurants and when IM weekend capacity is over what really can handle. Plus harder to get to, no big airport.

Who is getting excited? Nervous?
