Just registered for IMTX yesterday with a foundation slot...haven't done much research on the course.

I need advice on the swim -- should I wear a wetsuit or not (assuming it is below the cutoff temperature).  I am a 1h:16m ish IM swimmer, and not a contender for any sort of age group podium.  I have not swam in water this warm.  What do most middle-of-the-pack age groupers do?

If I could swim a 1:16 without a wetsuit, I would do it and not worry about it. This sounds like the right course particularly if you are worried about warm water. Just my opinion...

REST!!! Take it easy at this point. If I was feeling like you I would not do ANYTHING until Friday, and just swim easy, spin easy on Friday. With a week or so of tapering up to this point you should have start feeling like you cannot hold back your energy :D.

YYes, I had a stretch like this and questioned my fitness. I found I needed to shake off the rust with higher intensity stuff but for for only a short duration. Tough call this close but I wouldn't go crazy. You should trust yourself and the work you've done.

Went on my run this morning and saw the mile markers taped down on the run, and then saw Rasmus Henning out for a run on the waterway. I'm getting excited to watch. Good luck everyone!!

Wow! I spent the weekend away in the hill country and then the last 2 nights working and come back to a thread that has exploded! It really is THAT time! I am now off until next Wednesday night and VERY thankful! I'm headed up tomorrow to check in, drive the course and hopefully ride a short portion. Looking forward to the swim on Friday. All of this water temp change that seems to be all over the board as me a little on the bothered side since I'm not planning on a wetsuit.

The water temp stuff is bothering me too, however, as of 5:30 tomorrow morning I will no longer be bothered. I will be on a plane to Tx and my wetsuit will be in Virginia.

No worries to you not planning wearing wetsuits. I'm not planning to either, and I think the current water situation is perfect. My ideal temp would be 77. It will probably be a bit warmer, but still way better than the 84.4 it was last week.

If even 25% of the field chooses to wear wetsuits, that is going to make the mass start/swim significantly better. I would have always thought I would want to wear a wetsuit when I could, but after IMTX last year where I wore a speed suit, I'm all over the no wetsuit thing - even more so if some people are still going to wear them and stay out of my hair.

Bike course question: Tomorrow I am driving the course with some friends and planning on riding a small (15-20ish) mile portion. Looking at the map, I am thinking about riding the 45m-65m section and then cutting the short distance north on Bays Chapel Rd back to the course and back to the 45m ish point. Anyone know if this is a bad part to ride, place to park, etc? Also could do the little 15ish mile loop part from 50m-65m and back. This just looks like a convenient place to ride though I am not terribly familiar with the area. It has been a LONG time since I've been up that way. Thanks for any help!

I was driving a few days ago from mile 38 - 52 and back. to ride 45m - 65m should be no problem - parking would be maybe easier in the village on fm 149 at mile 50. you could park there and then drive the small loop 50-65 and the short way back.

cheers, erwin

Made it here last night! You would think after just over 15 hours of driving I would be able to fall asleep and if not at least sleep in. Not. Let the fun begin :-)

Sluggish workouts are a typical part of the taper. Don't worry about it.

I know I've been a ROCK in the pool. That's the only thing I'm good at! Ha!

I did my last swim today, great swim, it felt great to swim. It was only :30 swim and then I did a :20 run. I have one more :30 spin on my bike tomorrow. I'll do that in The Woodlands somewhere.

My taper has gotten better over this last week. I'm still a bit jumping I feel like I'm holding back my energy. I think that's a good sign!

Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow night for dinner and the swim on Friday morning
