In other news, Snow Fall: The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek won a Pulitzer.  You may recall that this was article discussed a while back.

Very cool, and well deserved!

Is anyone else a little creeped out by "They shut down cell service?"

I didn't know they could just blanket an area and shut down the cell service in that area only... Pretty Powerful that "they" can do that.

And thank goodness they can/did. My husband thinks I am a sheep, but I am all in favor of the people who are charged with protecting us having all the power they need to do it.

I'm not really worried about our government having this ability.. but can you imagine if the North Koreans had that power?

They probably do. The Great Leader knows all and can do all.

HAHAHAHA

Fave Boston memory: my sister and I were so stoned on a Saturday night--I mean, watching late-night TV without changing the channel stoned. We saw the commercial "what would you do for a Klondike bar" and all of a sudden got horrid, unquenchable Klondike bar munchies. If you noticed, it ain't the worst part of Boston, but it sure ain't the best, either, especially around 2am on a weekend night. My sister (who lived there!) was too scared to go to the 24-hour store two blocks down so she sent ME. I was 16! (Okay she was 20. Whatever). She said, "people will just think you're me. You'll be fine. I'll watch you from the window!"

I was so stoned that on the return trip I DID NOT NOTICE ... get this ... AEROSMITH going down the street in a stretch limo, with Steven Tyler wahoo-ing out the sunroof. My sis has pics. It's crazy.

But you completed the mission right? Nothing is so sweet as the victory of a satisfied stoner craving.

Wearing a race shirt and cap today, oh, and my new running shoes. At least I have real pants on.

I really love you guys. I realized yesterday when I broke down sobbing at my desk after Salty checked in that I am no longer going to refer to you all as my "friends." (with air quotes). You are my friends. No air quotes required.

Well on a positive note: I had a fantastic ride today. Galveston really built my confidence back that my IT Band is healed and I can go harder now. I rode harder this morning than I have in a while and averaged 19.2 on the bike for about 20 miles. That's a very nice speed PR for me!! I'm finally getting faster

You are awesome. Not "Great Race" awesome, just plain AWESOME. I had a similar experience this morning, the chills, the tears, and the fears.

And my race shirt is on as well. Which is a bit of a challenge, since it is under my work shirt and tie. And the A/C is fried at work today. I have removed the tie, and the collared shirt may be next.

Just went back and read you guys's commentary on my race. That was so fun!!! I've hardly had a chance to really reflect on it and haven't even gotten to analyze the splits. Very cool guys. Thanks for making me feel special.

Wait ... we were in air quotes before? Like flying Manatees?

Y'all are My Pod! Initial Caps My Pod! (I see him pee. Hm.)

Although I prayed for you occasionally before, you've firmly parked yourself in the F spot for my praying through the alphabet on long rides and runs. Especially since you shared about missing your dad and it hitting you again--or even as if for the first time--after a few years.

kgore - 2013-04-15 9:21 PM I was so relieved to here that all manatees and BT-ers are okay. I am still kind of in shock by it--going from depressed about the state of mind of people who do that, to mad that it happens. Its just unbelievable. What does impress me is that people who run/do tris are making sure that others are okay--such as people on this site--That is truly inspiring....

Kate, HUGS.  Happy Birthday! I'm so sorry that I forgot yesterday.

Even folks here in Indonesia are wearing race shirts today.

Heh. I realized that's all I ever wear, pretty much. Wearing my IMNZ polo shirt at a business meeting right now. Rock on, runners and all who love them.

Do I get extra points for wearing two race shirts?

It's only because I grabbed a long-sleeved one.  Glad I did. My lab is like a freezer today.  My fingers are stiff and it kind of hurts to type.

ponderingfox - 2013-04-16 7:04 AM Put me on the DL.  My left knee hasn't been the same since the HM.  I can swim and bike, but not run.  Went for a slooow jog last night, but it hurt afterwards, and I have ice on it now.  I'm going to have to take a couple weeks off from running to make sure nothing more significant happens.

Dude...sucks!  I'm sorry to hear that.  I hope it gets better soon.

Having one of those days....tired, don't want to be at work, don't want to eat what I brought for lunch, legs are still sore.  Might go take a walk in the sun (and warm) to get something better.  I think that will improve my mood.

Salty. Duuuuude. Our driver Pandri (who's worked for us for 30 years and knows me as well as anybody and better than most) asked if all my friends in Boston were okay. Love coming to you from all kinds of places in Indonesia.
