As a father, all I can say is wow...a whole new perspective for me after reading that. I simply can't fathom what I could do if this happened to my daughter. Triathlon is my hobby but my family is my life!

You and your son will be in my prayers. I hope you can make it to IMFL, not only because of all the time you've dedicated to it, but mainly because if you are on that starting line, that just means your son is doing well enough for you to be there.

Take care!

Linda,

I echo everyone elses well wishes for your son, for you and for your entire family.  Y'all will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers.  Keep the faith as children are so strong and resilant!  I wish him a speedy recovery!

Focus on your family ~ and you said it best, IM is just a single day event/race...the family is where life really is.  It would be wonderful for you to complete your journey in Florida, but if that is not in the plan this time....there will be other races.

Hey God, please bless Linda, her son, and her family.  Help him mend.  Be with Linda and her family as they work through this situation which You have placed in front of them.  Keep them strong - both of body and of will.  Help us keep them in our minds and our prayers.  I ask this in your name, Lord.  Amen.

trihardathena - 2009-10-22 10:52 PM Am I the only Accuweather junkie in the crowd. Getting closer to a forecast for race day...Nov. 5th is high 63...low 50 with some sun and clouds!!

If I can't control it I dont' worry about it I am just prepared for it.  Weather forcast will change about 25 times between now and then.  Dont' stress/worry/obsess over it.

I am one of the obsessive folks that have been checking for bib numbers for the last three weeks...that was until Monday.
Monday afternoon my 7 yr old son was involved in an "explosion" that seriously injured him, leaving him with a major brain injury.  He is doing ok, but it sure has put things in perspective for me.

We have all put a lot of ourselves into the race.  Our time, our energy, our money...our lives.  And, many others have made sacrifices for us to do this.  We are lucky to have the opportunity to do this.

I hope to be in FL, , but I am not sure I will be.  If I am I will surely be nervous, however things are now in a whole new light.  Last week at this time I would not have paid much attention to Socks' comment "Dont' stress/worry/obsess over it" now I am living by it ... as far as IMFL goes

Everyone be safe out there!  Have a good weekend, Linda

Wow - I am so sorry to hear about your son. Hoping all goes well for him and the rest of your family. May he heal completely and quickly.  There will always be other races but you only get one family. You'll be in my thoughts.

JPS0135 - 2009-10-23 11:31 AM so, obsessive compulsive person that lives inside me has already made a list of everything that I will need to do between now and when I leave for PCB, including what I'm planning on putting in my SN bags, what I'm planning on eating (and when) on race day, a shopping list of stuff to take out there, etc.

No...I'm not a little anxious for this race...why would you ask that?

would you mind posting your lists?

I am very anal myself and would love to check your lists , If you would be comfortable posting here

I am not the original poster but  I have done this race twice.  I'm not fast which causes some people to dismiss what I say out of hand (although being fast and having knowledge are not mutually exclusive) SO this is what I do and some things I have found helpful FWIW

Swim: wetsuit, goggles, bodyglide, swim cap, any fluid/food you care to snack/sip waiting for the start.  It might be cold so think about throw away socks or flops
T1 bag: bike helmet, bike shoes, +/-socks, Something to get the sand off you esp you feet, towel, whatever you choose to wear on the bike, sunscreen, sunglasses
BIKE: Fluids and food.  I also carry electrolyte tablets, tylenol and tums.  I have a spare tune and CO2 cartridge
Bike SN: extra tube and CO2 cartridge, some food that will make me happy.  My rice krispie treat at mile 80 on the bike was pure heaven last year.
T2/Run: Running socks and shoes, hat, extraneous clothes.  water and towel to clean my feet off. This year I found some disposable toothbrushes pre loaded with tooth paste I am putting in there.  I hate feeling like my teeth are covered in sugar...whcih they are after a 112 miles of sugery food.  To take with me...hand held water bottle (Sub in what ever you may carry nutrition in) a snack size baggie with tums, blister bandaids electrolytes
Run SN : Have something in there to look forward to.......weather it be a picture of your kids, some kind of food whatever its nice to have a carrott waiting at SN.  Depending on wetehr you may want to have a long sleeved shirt or jacket in there.

The most helpful things I have done is to 1-Pack all my bags BEFORE I LEAVE.  I had everything pre-loaded so when I get my official IM bags I just transfer the stuff over.  2-Get some giant ziplock bags and organize your T1 and T2 stuff so when a volunteer dumps your bag on the floor it doesn't all scatter.  3-Also get some snack size ziplocks so you can take little stuff with you like electrolytes, bandaids whatever.  4-I highly sugget tums.  You can get  3 pack of little rols they dont take up much space and might save your butt 5-Keep it simple.

Hey, so I know several BT'ers are doing the Janus Charity Challenge.  I think it's cool cause you don't have to raise any certain amount, and you don't benefit from it, just your charity does.

Socks has mentioned she's raising money for the Moffitt Center in support of Cancer Research and Treatment.

I am raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) organization that empowers our wounded warriors so they can get back into the real world, obtain skills, participate in the things like sports (to include triathlon) and more.   I have friends who have benefited from this program, so it's near to my heart. My donation link is on my BT Log page if you're interested.

Who else is doing Janus or another charity program?

I did it in 2007 for MDA...my friend's son has Muscular Dystrophy.  It was an amazing experience.  Came in 5th in the JCC for IMFL...and they gave MDA an extra 5 grand!  Frank Farrar was #1, pulling in over 200,000 for his charity!  - not sure I spelled his name, but he is the beloved triathlete who at that race was 78...wonder if he's still racing?

Anyway, you will get a different looking race number and it will be low - like pro low - and expect others on the race course to ask you about it.

I'm doing Janus for Richmond Hockey Fights Cancer.  It is a local organization that was started by a bunch of local hockey players that had cancer impact their lives directly or indirectly. http://teamrhfc.com/wp/

Ok, I am a little early again but I have to head into work so we will say:

- 13 days and change.......
- Forecast for Nov. 7  (High 73/Low 58) with a blend of sun and clouds
- Water temp at PCB 73.8 degrees

Well we all know how reliable the 15 day forecast is so you can go ahead and bank on that weather.Wink  That would be some pretty awesome weather for racing though.  I am such a geek, but I think it is so cool that race day is show up on the 15 day forecast now.
