blujay65 - 2009-04-12 7:30 AM Hey Folks!

I am back from my trip to NOLA and the 10K race. It was huge, over 17 thousand runners, probably too huge for my tastes. I have posted a race report. Trying to negotiate around so many slow walkers and runners is hard. I need to rethink my strategy for a race like this. Pretty early on I realized this would not be a race to set and benchmarks for my 10K time, after that it was easier to just run and have fun, listen to the big jazz bands, etc. I did not however partake in the free Jello shots, beer, or strawberry daiquiris offered up along the way!

Although the course was jammed with party-goers, strollers, and big groups of walkers I could not let myself get too frustrated (even though I was at first), I was once one of those slow runners and still am considering how many people passed me up!

I think I will do this race again, maybe, and will try and get myself a bit further up closer to the start line, to bypass some of the slower folks.

All in all it was a perfect day, the weather was cool and not humid at all, so very unlike NOLA!

17000 people seems insane.  I've done 5000 and that seemed way crowded.  I can't even imagine triple that number.

Glad you were able to just sit back and enjoy it.  Sounds like it was a fun atmosphere!

Happy Easter!

I don't do easter so today was my brick day. The plan was a 22 mile loop followed by a 3.2 mile run. The wind was strong today so I took out the Allez instead of the tri bike, but I tried out the race wheels on it. My ride started directly into the wind and proved to be too much for me so I turned the ride into an 18 mile out and back; the back was 5-6mph faster! The run felt very hard. I definitely want to get in at least one more brick before my first tri.

rlejeune - 2009-04-12 8:29 AM I just read your RR Jen, it must be awesome to run with over 17k people.

It was pretty overwhelming! At one point when we were going through city park, you could see over 2 miles of runners winding through the park roads. It was pretty awesome. It was at times frustrating with so many walkers and stroller pushers, but I had a blast anyway.

That is really cool. The biggest run I've been in was 2600, and even that made me choke up. It just moves me that so many people are attempting to make a healthy life for themselves.

2 miles of runners, WOW!

Earlier I was reading a post about someone who tried to ride in aero for the first time and it gave me the idea that I should get the Trek out for my first ever ride in Aero

Besides the fact that the wind is gusting at like 30 mph and that this aero frame doesn't like a cross wind much I had a blast. And I am really happy to be able to say that I was really confident in aero.

Except when turning, I will have to practice that a little bit still But this bike is damn fast ... I can't wait to really try it out. I might take her for my long ride tomorrow

Hi Neal!

K! How ya doing?

Pretty good! I've been tired. I finally got some sleep last night and a nap. How bout you?

I'm doing great! I had a good workout today, got to see my parents, and had a good meal. I can't complain about any of that

Yeah, that meal sounded amazing. I've been a bottomless pit this week. Sounds like a great day overall!

So are you eager to hit the training hard again next week? I see you put another HIM on the schedule

Yes! I can't wait! I ran today for the first time and it felt really good. And I registered for IMRI70.3. That distance was really fun so I wanted to fit in another before IMWI. Should be a fun summer! When is your next race?

I have a half-mary in 2 weeks!!!!  And the first tri is only a little over a month away.  I'm starting to get really excited.

My first tri is on the 26th I can't wait!
