I just fixed my bike computer.  It has been wacked for quite a while, so I just made due.

Today I decided no more.  Bought a new battery, but that didn't fix it.  So I kept tweaking.

And wow, it is working.  Not really sure what I did, but it's working great.  I feel like I got a new toy.

I stand corrected on the gluten-free! Sounds like it can really make a big difference for people.

I'm not giving up good bread either, though.

I got a nice laugh from the video, Julia! "I really like the expresso here", that was perfect. My fave video in this series is "s#*t Asian girls say". Kathy is quite positive they used me as a template for the video....I am like...so sure...I am completely computer literate...I never squeal when I see my girlfriends on the street...and I never pose and post pics to FB. Geesh! Carry on!

I've been thinking about my diet.  The kids saw a picture recently of McDonals'd nuggets pre-(colored/flavored/cooked).  So gross, they have sworn off fast food (we'll see how long that lasts).  And now between all this fruit talk and gluten free talk I am really thinking hard.  Thanks MG

RoniS - 2012-01-22 6:23 PM I have to share how much I am enjoying being back on a triathlon training plan. I didn't realize how much I was missing it until I started back and got those first couple hard weeks out of the way. I'm getting into the groove again.... absolutely LOVING the pool, not dreading the bike, and having fun with the shorter runs!

Clearly, you have hijacked my fresh batch of motivation...  It is awesome to be in "the groove".  Congrats!

Quite a few books (and the movie SuperSize Me) have influenced my attitudes about what and how I eat and feed my family. I've listed all of my favorites below. I think my favorite book in this bunch is Animal, Vegetable, Miracle -- Barbara Kingsolver undertook an exerperment with her family to grow all of their own food for a year, or try not to outsource beyond 50 miles (each family member was allowed one or two exceptions, such as coffee and bananas). I consider Michael Pollan my FoodGod. And I really like Mark Bittman's attitude, which embraces balance and moderation, and making vegetables the center of your meal instead of meats. Anyway, if anyone is looking for a few good food reads, have fun!!

SuperSize Me (movie, Morgan Spurlock)

Fast Food Nation (Eric Schlosser)

Omnivore's Dilemma (Michael Pollan)

In Defense of Food (Michael Pollan)

Food Matters (Mark Bittman)

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (Barbara Kingsolver)

Suzy - have a great holiday, don't touch the food!

Almost all fruit, meat and veggies here is grown locally, you can pretty much grow anything. I was brought up in the UK so it seems strange to see strawberries grown in Winter but the climate is perfect for them at that time. We've got a great Sunday farmers market in Noosa with the most delicious food so there's not much temptation to buy packaged food.

I managed to bribe my 2 youngest kids to come down for a swim at the beach today at 5:30am, they forgot the time when they were surrounded by fish and afterwards we went over the road and they had yummy hot chocolates in a cafe. My oldest wont get up for this anymore so it's time to work on the others!!!

David, are you anywhere near where they do the Tour down Under?

No Tony, the Tour is near Adelaide I think, about the same distance away as New Orleans is from New York!

Miss a day on the MG and you miss a lot apparently!

Not a lot to report on my end.   Weather has been warm and windy and I've been sitting myself under an umbrella at the pool overlooking the gulf during the day and doing the required dinners at night.  Both have been very fun.  Today's the last full day so I intend to soak it all in before we head back to snow and ice.

I am delegting the Wednesday question to Fatty since he's been nice and vocal on nearly every topic, including mine.

PS.  While not everyone may have agreed with what i shared regarding imported fruit, I am glad it started a discussion on nutrition.  Great topic and good thoughts.

I am not racing this weekend. My first race ian olympic distance race on 4/28. I have never done this race but it is within 10 miles of my house. Since I am racing longer this year I figured I would try it.

The family is planning on going to San Fransico for the first week of April. We have had the kids help pick out the itinerary for the trip. My daughter is really excited about the Exploratorium.

No racing here.  Hopefully lots of sleep which I haven't been getting the last week bc I've been petsitting a friend's puppy. But I'm supposed to go over a friend's house for a girl's night/sleepover on Sat to relive our youth so to speak. :rolls eyes:  We'll see.

Bucket list;

Tri related; - become an ironman (that's all I got right now)

Other; - go on African safari
- bike cross country as a family
- do a solo adventure
- visit family in Latvia and Poland
- compete in the olympics (a girl can dream)

While you may recall I just won a pair of race wheels in a drawing by the local race directing company, FSseries. Bearing in mind that I have never won anything of significance, I just won again!

I donate each year to World Bicycle Relief. Jordan Rapp collects really cool prizes andthen draws names from the list of donors. It has been so long since IMAZ that I figured it was ove.

This AM I had an email from Jordan saying my name had been drawn and I could pick from the remaining prizes. Well the NormaTec Boots were gone, as were the SRAM group sets, The Zipp Wheels, the wine, the trip to Catalina, trip to Mammoth, 2 entris into the LEadville 100, autographed stuff from Chrissie, and Macca, etc. Actually at least 80% of the prizes have already been spoken for. However, it appears that training camp in SanDiego with Michellie Jones is still available! The one on June 7-10 looks like it will work for me, and my wife said that if she won a tennis camp she would go in a heart beat. Airfare looks to be around $350 not including the bike.

It works with my schedule as I have three sprints in June and that is the one weekend I am NOT racing. I spoke to my coach and he said go for it, but only after giving me a hard time about that being the same weekend as his training camp in Boone, NC.

Now I have to go buy lottery tickets!

No racing here!!

My bucket list is dwindling down rapidly, yikes!

Big Sur Marathon: Done (2003)

Ironman: Done (2009,2010)

Climb Kilimanjaro: I had a dream of doing this someday with my FIL (RIP). But I still wanna do it.

And that's all I got. Once upon a time I had reading all Pulitzer Prize-winning novels on the list, but I've found I don't care for many of the winners, so I've taken that goal off my list. But it's still out there, so when I'm looking for something to read, I often turn to a past winner.

Finally, my One True Bucket List Item is to raise happy kids. I do the best I can, but as any parent knows, there are many factors beyond your control. For my kids, happiness is the one thing I wish I could give them.

I'm running a trail half marathon on Saturday evening! It will be my first trail race in the dark, so my goal is to get through it without any spectacular wipeouts. The conditions should be pretty good, with temps in the 30s and no snow on the trails. Muddy, though!

I haven't really thought about a bucket list before, but the first things that come to mind are running the Hood to Coast relay and going to Australia (lifelong dream).

Julia, I want to hear all about your nighttime trail half marathon.  I'm thinking about putting that one on my list for next year.  Just not quite ready for this year's race.

P.S.  Are you on the Indiana Trail Running website??

I'll write up a race report! I've run a couple of races put on by PA, and I like them. I'm a member on ITR, but I haven't been checking it lately. I know a big group did a course preview last week - I should check and see if there are any reports on it!

Bingo. That's why it's a WISH, and not a GOAL.
