I've been feeling really tired this week too, although in my case I think it's just too many things coming together at one time.  Our daughter made the freshman soccer team at her HS so we're dealing with practices/team meetings and getting her everything she needs for that along with trying to get things settled for our son to start college next fall.  We still need to visit 2 campuses so he can decide where he wants to go plus he's involved with 2 bowling leagues and it's tournament time for the HS league.  On top of that and everyday work and household chores I'm still trying to get to the gym or do a home workout 5-6 days a week.  Luckily my husband is wonderful about helping out around the house so that makes things easier.  I'm not sleeping well though which I guess is probably why I feel a little run down.  Sorry, didn't mean to be a whiner this morningFrown.  Hopefully things will settle down soon and get back to some semblance of normal.

I've got a swim and run scheduled for tonight but I may either skip one or just do a short swim and an easy run and hit the bed early.

I have posted countless messages saying the exact same thing.  Hang in there.  Don't let training become one more thing you have to do.  If you don't get to  it, don't worry about it. Keep it fun and then it will happen.

If I've learned anything in the last 6 months, it is when to work out. Balancing life with 2 young kids, and taking on a new lifestyle has been very difficult in itself.

You do not want to resent your workouts. Yes, there are alot of times when you feel better after, but if you do not feel like workout..don't. Your mental health is just is important as your physical health. And if your not 'feeling it'  every once in a while so be it. As important as this 'hobby'  has become in my life, I know that it is not my everything.

my  2 pennies are in the pot now too!

And I should know....I'm a triathlete now! HAHA Cool

Hey Trevor. I've been away for a few days but congratulations. You won't forget the first one and how good it felt to finish. All the hard work does really pay off.

I seem to be struggling with my trainng right now and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe I just need to push my A** out the door. I did get my bike fitted yesterday and the bottom line is the bike is actually too small for me. We made whatever adjustments we could including a new seat and hopefully that will carry me through this year.

The weather here is crazy. I was going to go out on Sunday for a run or ride but it rained. Then it has turned cold again. I want some warmer weather so I can get off the treadmill and get outside. I have still been experiencing some problems with my hip flexor/groin. Thanks to each of you that has given me a push on my logs to get off my butt and get going. Back at it tomorrow morning.

Maybe I'm overly nervous about the last couple of job interviews. I always just want to lay down and sleep when I am stressed.

Time to get my geek on...

I plan on working this over the weekend with my bike.  I am not 100% happy with my fit, I think he put me too high in the front so not as aero as I could be.

I have a perfect place to do the tests, will bring a notepad to record which runs were which, maybe bring my aero helmet out as well as my road helmet just for fun.

Thanks guys!  I know this is just a rough patch because of everything going on at one time.  I knew it was going to happen at some point, just didn't expect it to be when I was in the middle of training for a half marathon and my first tri.  But we'll get through itSmile

I decided to skip the swim last night and just do a run on the TM at home instead of going to the gym.  I got on and planned to just go for as long as I was feeling good.  I got 4 miles in so not too bad.  Today I think I'm going to take it easy though.

I'm here...

Just trying to figure out the spreadsheet.  So basically more resistance potentially means more power, and weather conditions attribute to resistance.  The more power you build (based on resistance training), the more speed you can increase.

On another sub-note - The more interval testing you do, the more tired you become.

Tony: I opened the doc, squinted real hard and still couldn't read it.  You must have accidentally sent me the Chinese version.  Clueless.  Knock yourself out!

Today was a busy day. I am starting to work on the Berbee Derby (Thanksgiving Day run) for the upcoming year.  Today was investigating Corporate/Team Challenges to increase attendance! Any ideas?  Also doing some work with a graphics agency for my husband's new company logo.  Fun stuff, just time consuming.

Tomorrow is my long run day (only 14m though!).  Keep your fingers crossed I can do it outside.  This morning is was -1F WC.

Good morning all. It's Friday the 13th and a full mooon. Let the crazies loose today. That would  be most of us here. Anyone have interesting plans for the weekend. Not me. Usual stuff. Visit with my daughter, sil and two grandsons. Maybe squeeze in a workout. Unfortunately probably inside as it is only -10 here today.

I'm needing some new music to train with. Any ideas? I would like some good tempo stuff.

Who has races coming up soon?

If you don't care what music you are listening to (Artist/song) then Fitmusic.com has a free podcast through iTunes.  The mixes range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.  Mostly decent stuff.

My first race is a TT on the 29th of this month... I hope my new bike is here by then!  It should have been here this week.    Then I have a half mary the next weekend.

Ohh and iTunes also podcasts from MissingSaddle called VeloSpoke.  They are about 30-45 minutes.  There are only a few of them and they were back in mid-2008.

Sorry, busy afternoon and evening so didn't get a chance to get back to the forums until now.

Saw Road to Roubaix a documentary about the Paris-Roubaix race, very cool.  plus it was at a Cinema and draft house so pitcher of beer and some wings + watching, + got a nice long sleeve cannondale shirt.

Is the spreadsheet coming up in a different language for some?  That's odd, english for me.

It is a tool to determine your CdA, or Drag Coefficient(sp?) for you and your bike without having to go to a wind tunnel.

I am not as much concerned about that number but wanted to find a good test for my gear and bike setup.  Since I have the bike I want for awhile now, I need to know if I add or remove something is it making me go faster than before using the same amount of power.

I plan on testing my form and bike with the current setup, then removing some spacers and seeing how it goes.  i.e. if I go 15 mph @ 150 watts today, remove spacers and go 17 mph @ 150 watts I know that lowering my front was a good thing.

Yes I know it is all geeky but I like doing stuff like that.

Oh and I have a 1/2 marathon coming up next weekend in Virginia Beach.  Should be flat and fast I hope.

Today was supposed to be an easy 14m.  I knew I wanted to go outside and I thought doing a few hills would be good.  I had fun, but did not stick to the plan!  Once I got going, I could not get into that ez groove.  Probably a result of too many TM miles where the belt moves you along. Ah well, live and learn. I am sure if I could see my running coach he woudl be scowling.  Tomorrow is an ez run/swim day and then my first 10K of the season is on Sunday.  Going to let the body dictate the pace since it is not a goal race for me and I need to behave between now and Boston.

Enjoy the weekend.  It looks like Spring is arriving in Madison!

Try Podrunner.  They set up an 1hr long music set based on Beats Per Minute... Good tempo stuff (ie: HR )...

Tony- I think you missed the joke.  It came up in English, but no one understand what the hell the sheet says, or means, so it was just a figure of speech.    Given some of your workouts I have seen from you in the past... Why are you only pushing 150 watts? It seems like a test like that you would push your wattage higher?

HEHE I am usually good with the jokes but that one went right by me, being an IT guy I figured that it was saved as some odd font that you didn't have so it was trying to show it in another one.

The object of the test isn't to see how fast you can go or how many watts you can put out but to determine how "aero" you and your bike are.

There are even coast-down tests you can do where you coast down a hill and record how fast you go, change gear or setting then coast down the same hill again and record how much faster or slower you go.  This spreadsheet and test is a bit more scientific than just coasting but the end result is essentially the same, if I make change x do I get faster or slower.

With this inital test I am looking to get 10's of watts back I am not to the point where 1 or 2 watts is worth the effort.

Think about it if you are on your Computrainer watch your watts, if you are pushing out 200 watts on the CT and going 20MPH, wouldn't it be sweet to only have to put out 150 watts to get the same speed?

LOL, I am not taking this too seriously just for fun to see what I can come up with.  Obviously this type of thing isn't for everyone but I am a geek at heart so it makes me happy to play with spreadsheets with a bunch of numbers on them to figure out if I can save 30 seconds off a 2 hour ride : )

I'm thankful for people like you because most of the time your type will take that info, digest it and then give it away to people like me... I don't get it all yet but hope to someday.
